Pinch Reviews: Post Void

I was recommended Post Void by a friend quite a while ago, and immediately upon booting the game up I fell in love with it. It's a boomer-shooter styled speed shooter where you're incentivized to move as quickly as possible. This breakneck pace is complimented by the game's most unique asset, its extremely unique style, somewhat reminiscent of the type of thing you'd see on the bottoms of people's skateboards in the 2000s. That's not the, like, actual way to refer to it, or anything, it's just where my head jumps to in this case.

Gameplay of Post Void is simple, you have a limited amount of essence to use to get to the end of a stage, typically a twisting and turning corridor populated with a series of grotesque enemies who each have somewhere on their body you can shoot to kill them instantly. It's important to kill these enemies because your essence, or health, is constantly draining, and taking damage drains it further. The only way to replenish your essence is to kill enemies, or finish the level.

Runs in this game are explosive, tense, and *intense.* Your incentive to constantly move and hit your shots demands that you play near perfectly in order to succeed and complete even the earliest stages. As you manage to progress you'll be presented with a series of non-permanent upgrades that will augment your run, such as detonating enemies upon death, slowing down enemies bullets, or otherwise changing what weapon you use between the four available.

The best way that I can describe Post Void is as a playable headache. It's visuals are abrasive and nearly unpalatable, it's gameplay requires a constant, painstaking attention to it, and it pulses with every clean headshot like your head throbs through a migraine.

Post Void is one of the best feeling shooters that I've played this year, and I found my time with it and it's disgusting world INCREDIBLY enjoyable and replayable. Post Void is also impossibly inexpensive at a mere THREE DOLLARS! If you're even REMOTELY interested in one of the most interesting and electric gaming experiences I've had in recent memory, you should ABSOLUTELY pick up Post Void.
