The Girl Who Dared To Stand
The second book of this series and I am already so in love with these characters. Completely obsessed I can’t stop reading.
We really left off on a bang with two people dying there at the end. Kind of disappointed about the two older figures with all the wisdom are gone but this also isn’t gender games with the amazing Ms. Dale.
But have no fear, we meet Scipio 1.0 and he throws some bombs at us pretty quick in the beginning. I honestly can’t get over the fact that there is so much to this story and this world she creates. You ever read a book and feel like you wanted more but they never deliver? Well not these books man there is detail on details and I’m here for it.
One of the first things they do with Scipio is ask if they can call him something else since the Scipio they deal with on a day to day basis isn’t all that great. He renames himself Leo, cute. Leo drops some bombs on the group and tells them about how the system was supposed to be working. The nets in their brains were only meant to monitor moods in case of DEPRESSION!! To be able to stop people from killing themselves especially within the first years of the tower. But somewhere along the line there was a changing of the code and using that mood monitor to reveal your rank of 1-10.
We see the group in their new sanctum after what happened with Devon in the old one. The find a new spot and this is where we meet Leo. Liana randomly finds this room and saves him from a broken hard drive. He in return tells her a lot of what he knows from 300 years ago. He also shows everyone the video of his creator being murdered by Ezekiel Pine. The man who swore to take down Scipio even if it took generations.
At this point we have seen Liana and her friend pull off some incredible things and it doesn’t end there. They need a way to hide in the tower, but how when you are being monitored at all times? They make a plan with her brother and Mercury, their secret friend within the eyes. The eyes are the people who monitor the tower. They monitor not only the citizens of the tower but also Scipio, The eyes are always watching. They make a plan to steal new nets to give them fake IDs so they are able to move throughout the tower. They also had to disguise themselves with different colored eyes, hair and other tricks they have. The have to get into the Core where they are held which is where the eyes are but Alex has a plan for them to get in and out. Only it nothing ever goes as planned right?  They get to the room with the nets only to find people inside when there wasn’t supposed to be. Liana does a great job of lying her ass of to get them out of there but in the end the alarms are sounded. They have to make a run for it, But Maddox gets captured.
Have I even talked about the other characters? Here they are:
Liana: leader and badass.
Grey: the criminal turned love interest.
Roark: deceased.
Zoe & Eric: Liana’s best friends from childhood who get wrapped up in it but support her no matter what.
Tian: little girl who saved their lives and brought to sanctum.
Cali: the leader of Sanctum, also deceased.
Maddox/Doxy: Cali’s daughter.
Quess: computer/engineer wiz.
The last part of the book is a rescue mission to get Maddox back. Let me tell you I have never cried so hard while reading a book. The end of this book torn my heart out.

The Girl Who Dared to Think
Okay wow! I could not put this book down! After finishing The Gender Games series I was left wanting to know more about the tower and I'm so elated that she wrote a series about it.
Not gunna lie, I think I like this book way more than The Gender Games already.
This book takes place 25 year after Violet and Viggo visited the tower in their heloships. So this has me hoping that we might get to see them again as older characters! Fingers crossed.
Some background on this story. It takes place in a tower that was built 300 years ago when the world ended basically. This super smart guy build it before whatever happened and the radiation hit. The tower is over a mile high and sustains life for everyone inside. The tower protects them from the outside conditions and from what we saw in the gender games, a pretty lethal death ray. There are different factions within the tower. Each one with specific roles to help maintain life in the tower. All the machines are run by the AI, Scipio. for the longest time I kept calling him Scorpio in my head, now its more like C-P-O (like  c-3po from star wars without the 3). They use a ranking systems that are like our class system. 10 is perfect and the lower your number the lower your class. At a level 3 they are required to get medical treatment to help them improve their number, I mean that’s pretty fucked if you ask me.
Finally we get Liana who is a strong badass already who is questioning everything, as she should. So her number falls and she is trying to stay afloat. in the mean time she is a squire trying to become a night. Both her parents are 10s and the perfect citizens of the tower. They are also the highest ranking knights below the Commander.
Then we meet Grey. Wow oh wow. I thought I liked Viggo and Violets chemistry. Liana and Grey start out as the knight catching the criminal turned not criminal. He was supposed to be a 1 and when they found him he was a 9. Suspicious. The rest of the book is her trying to save herself from her falling rank and also saving grey.
Here come the spoliers....
Turns out they are killing the 1s not rehabilitating them. Liana now has to kill grey in order to become a knight. Its like an initiation into the knights. She decides that isn't right and forms a plan to save him. It worked but only for a short time. Turns out Grey and his friend Roark are making pills to give you your desired rank. Liana takes a pill to give to grey and somehow they pull it off. But her lieutenant isn't having it. He follows her and find out everything. They fight him and a mysterious little girl clocks him over the head and they run.
Is this where I should stop? Sometimes I’m not sure how much to give away in these posts but I’ll stop here and not completely spoil it. On to the next book!

No Safety In Numbers
I read this book in 2 days it was so good! There isn't any background needed for this book because it is a stright forward quarentine in a mall situation. But once again this book is said to be comparable to the hunger games. Even has "Think of the heart-racing chase of The Hunger Games, but a giant mall is your arena" right on the cover! I think most publishers are just using that now to sell their books.
This book is No Safety In Numbers by Dayna Larentz.
So the one similarity to the hunger games is that this book takes place in a confined area but no one is trying to kill each other. On the contrary, someone planted a bomb that released a toxin into the area that is slowly killing people inside the mall, but we don't find that out til about the middle of the book.
This book follows 4 teenagers inside the mall; Marco, Lexi, Ryan, and Shay. You have your typical stereotypes of high school kids; the loner, the nerd, the jock, and the rebel. Marco is trying to hide from the football jerks when he finds the bomb. The mall immediately goes into lockdown because of it. Which I thought was a little weird if they initially thought it was a bomb. Wouldn't they want to evacuate the mall? But that was the call of Lexi's mom the senator who becomes in charge of the whole operation.
Each one of these kids is very curious about whats going on and they all find out in their own way what is happening. Lexi's mom is in charge and ends up telling her. Turns out the person that planted the bomb put a strain of the flu in it to be released. Now if you know anything about the flu, there is no cure, our bodies have to fight it off on its own. So when there is a new strain that no one has antibodies for, it becomes deadly!
So of course in the midst of all this chaos we have a little love story, Ryan and Shay. This mysterious girl turns the jock into a big pile of mush when they meet. Shay is a stunning Indian girl (not native american) and Ryan is the typical hot jock. I love when you get multiple perspectives in a book, especially when you have 2 people who are attracted to each other. Shay plays it super cool in Ryans perspective but then is silently freaking out when it comes to her POV.
The book takes place over 7 days, I can't even imagine what it would be like to be trapped inside a mall for that long. At first it might be fun, but eventually it would be awful especially when you don't know whats going on. People also started rioting and pillaging the stores.
The mall becomes 100% quarentined when they find out it's the flu. The government doesn't want it getting out of the mall. So that means no more help from the outside. At the end of the book you don't really know how many people have actually died from the virus and no one in the book knows either. We know of 3 deaths; Marco's boss, a random girl in the Ambercombie store, and Shay's grandma. There is also a couple more random dead bodies throughout, not a big deal right? WRONG! The senator finds maybe a hundred bodies in the freezer of the make shift ICU. Alright so a hundred bodies isn't that bad when you have thousands of people in the mall. Once again WRONG! She goes to the ice rink and finds thousands of bodies piled up on the rink!
My mind was completely blown at this point! Then the book ended and I was just like wait! Where's the rest?! I want more! I need to know what happens!! It kept me interested, guessing, and wanting more the entire time!
The next book is No Easy Way Out by Dayna Lorentz!
My rating for the book 8/10,

Red Queen
So I really hate how every book is now compared to Hunger Games and Divergent. Yes those are great books but most the time they are nothing like those books. Maybe if they specified which parts they are similar in that would be great. Thats what I'm going to do real quick. The society in this book reminds me of hunger games. The fact that there is rich and poor communities. The poor governed by the most powerful and given constant reminders they are inferior.
This book is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard!
Here's the background! This book takes place in another dystopia type society (my favorite!) The socirty is split into 2 groups, rich and poor, silver and red blood. Now you're probably wonder what I mean by silver and red blood, i quite literally mean, the rich have silver blood and the poor have red blood. Silver blood also comes along with abilities. These people are able to control different types of elements! Every house has their own abillity. There is  strongarms, blood healers, skin healers, burners, magnetron, sings. cloners and many more. (This link will tell you all you need to know about each ability http://redqueen.wikia.com/wiki/Silver_Abilities)
So our main character is Mare. She is a red blood, she lives in a very poor village and steals to keep her family alive. At age 18 all kids are shipped out to fight in the war, unless they have an apprenticeship with a job. Mare does not and is months away from turning 18. So one night she pick pockets a man and he catches her. He ends up just giving her the money she was going to steal. Little did she know he was a very important person. Within the next couple a days she gets a job to be a servant at the Royal castle. It's better to be a servant then to be conscripted into the war, so she accepts the job. The royal family is a family of burners, they can control fire.
We have our next 2 main character Cal and Maven. Cal is the kings oldest son from his 1st wife. He will be heir to the throne. When the Prince Cal comes of age to marry they hold what they call a Queenstrial. Every silver family enters an eligible female to marry the prince in the trial. It is a show of skills and power in their ability to show to the King and Queen, who then choose the strongest one to wed their son. Back to Mare, she is a server at the Queenstrial, filling up glasses and serving food. In the middle of the whole trial she ends up falling over the railing and onto the force field around the arena below. Heres the thing though, she doesn't die! She should have been fried the second she hit the field.
We find out that Mare has the power of lighting, being able to conduct lighting from within and use it as a weapon. The only thing is, she's a Red! No red is supposed to have powers and her powers aren't manipulation of an elemet but she is greating it. No silver can create only manipulate. So naturally the royal family wants to cover up the fact that she is a Red with powers. They make up a back story for her about being the long lost daughter of some guy who's whole family is pretty much dead, no one would question that right? Well they also teach her how to be royalty, how to control her powers, and etiquette.
Among all this she lives in the palace and is betrothed to the kings second son Maven. Mare ends up growing feelings for both Cal and MAven. Turns out the Cal was the man she pick pocketed way back when and he was the one that gave her the job in the castle. Obviosuly not knowing about her abilities at the time. My only disappointment with this book is the fact that they don't do a great job of showing the connection with Cal. I feel like all of a sudden she;s in love with him. They share a couple moments together but nothing huge and heart defying. It's a little easier to see with Maven, he kind of becomes her protecter but still not a huge connection with either guy. Kind of disappointed, I want some steamy love but I guess not every relationship is like that.
SPOILER ALERT (I try to let ya know whenever I'm gunna give away something big in the book, like the ending which I usually do.)
Wow this is a long one. If youve read this far I'll tell ya how it ends. IN UTTER CHAOS! Maven turns into a psycho, but I guess he has been the whole time. His mother can control peoples minds, so naturally she makes Cal murder his father! WHAT! Maven then turns the whole kingdom against Cal and takes the crown for himself. Betraying Cal and also Mare. Sets up pretty good for the second book!
My rating for the book 8/10 the second book is Glass Sword!

Of Poseidon (The Syrena Legacy)
So here we are again! One of my favorite books, about a mermaid!  If you didn't realize from my last post, I love mermaids and books about mermaids! This book is different but also similar in ways to the other book. Although this is a series so there is more time to explain and for more to happen.
This book is Of Poseidon by Anna Banks!
Some background for ya! This book is in the perspective of the two main characters, Emma and Galen. Galen is a Syrena mer-man, his job is to research earth so he can report back to his home to make sure they are not in any danger of being discovered and also study humans. Emma is what they call a halfbreed, she is the product of a mermaid and human relationship. She has white hair and purple eyes, all the syrena have purple eyes. She doesn't know one of her parents is a mermaid or that she is a halfbreed until she meets Galen.
The book starts out with these 2 meeting by chance at the beach, Emma literally runs into Galen at the beach and there is an instant spark. Like literally, they both feel a surge of pulsing energy through the both of them when they touch. They can't stop thinking about that touch either. But right away tragedy strikes and (spoiler alert) Emma's best friend Chloe dies from a shark attack. It's almost hard to explain what happens next without giving away important information for later, but Emma seems to communicate with the shark. She screams STOP underwater at the shark and he actually stops and turns around and swims away. Emma is also not drowning as she's been under water for awhile, Galen is also witnessing the whole thing go down.
It continues for awhile about Emma's depression after the death of her best friend. Then her and Galen meet for real. Galen has realized that Emma must be a Syrena, but she has white hair and pale skin which is opposite of the Syrena. He also assumes she has "the gift if Poseidon" which if you didn't guess is the gift of speaking to animals. Galen basically stalks her by showing up at her school and trying to get as close to her as possible, but for good reasons. He eventually shows her what he is and tells her that she is the same.
One little problem, halfbreeds can't grow tails! So the hunt is on to figure out her heritage, was her dad a merman? Is her mom? Why have they kept it a secret for so long? All while trying to fight this attraction to Galen. She wants to be with him  and vice versa but he has a duty, and the law says no Syrena is to lay with a halfbreed. So he is fighting his own feelings for her because lets be real they are soul mates and have the most intense connection ever! (which will also be explained in a later book) The back and forth they go through with their feelings throughout the book is incredible!
Ok I could go on about this book for literally ever! But I will try to wrap it up! Through most of this book Galen is teaching her about the Syrena and helping her breath under water. He's hesitating whether or not to bring her to their kingdom because they are not valued in the community, looked as as abominations. The next book covers more of the struggle of being a halfbreed. At the end of the book you find out it is her mother that is the mermaid, in fact she's a long lost princess!
My rating for the book 9/10 the next book is Of Triton!

The Mermaid's Mirror
First of all I freaking love Mermaids! I want to be one because how awesome would that be?! Second of all, I'm not sure if I'm writing to much in these or not. Sometimes I feel like I'm giving too much away and others I feel like I haven't said enough about the book! So just bare with me, who knows if I'll ever get the hang of this.
This book is The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan.
Like I said I freaking love Mermaids so obviously I wanted to read this book! I'm really more into action books but this one definitely was about to keep my interest.
Selena or Lena, the main character is a girl living in California who all of a sudden develops a sleep walking problem and ends up at the beach every time. Kinda weird but ok. You continue to hear about her connection with the sea. It's really a beautiful thing feeling so connecting to the water or anything in nature really! So as you read it's pretty much about an average 16 year olds life, she wants to surf and dad won't let her so she does it behind his back. Also her real mother died when she was 4 and her dad remarried, very important!
In the midst of all this teenagery stuff, Lena is on the beach and sees a mermaid! WOW I want her life but it gets better! This mermaid then saves her life later when she almost drowns from surfing in the most dangerous spot. Like girl, c'mon, your dad already didn't want you surfing so lets go surf in the spot that the most trained men won't go. Smart! In the midst of the mermaid saving her life she hands her a key. A key you might ask? Yeah me too like whats going on?? This key just happens to open a chest that is hidden under the floorboards in her parents room. Which then holds a bunch of secrets about her mother.
SPOILER ALERT!
Her mother is the Mermaid! So throughout the book, you obviously know there's a mermaid involved, but you also just get the feeling that the mermaid has to be her mom. She's so drawn to the site where she saw her the first time and has all these connections to the water. Not to mention her dad and mom (stepmom) are keeping a bunch of secrets from her! So I totally guessed it was her mom!
So heres where the story gets even better, Lena takes off with her mother to go live under the sea! (breaks out in The Little Mermaid song!) Then not even 24 hours later she meets a beautiful mer-man and finally has a connection with a boy! Cuz lets be real, her and her boyfriend were a snooze fest! I guess time is different under water but she stays in their under water city for what seems like a long time. She falls in love, makes friends, and even tries to acuire a tail!
Long story short, she returns home in the end, never to return to the under water kindom. Its ultimately really sad what she is leaving behind but her real family is on land!
My rating for the book is a 8/10

The Gender Game
Alright so to begin, I want to try and keep my posts postive but obviously I will say if I dont like a book. This one gave me a lot of mixed feelings through out. The beginning was very slow and almost confusing at times. I found myself asking why are they talking about this, lets get to the good stuff. Unfortuntely that doesnt really come til about the last third of the book.
This book is The Gender Game by Bella Forrest.
Some background on this book first! The society this book takes place in is a dystopian society. Also my favorite type of books to read! The world is set up into 2 cities, Matrus and Patrus. Matrus is run by women and all men have to submit to them. They basically don't have any rights. It is also similar in Patrus but worse for women. They were treated worse and if you did not have a husband you ran the risk of being used by the men. They weren't allowed to go anywhere without their husband, talk without permission, and at any point could be detained for breaking any of the rules.
The main character is Violet. She is a Matrian girl who has been in detention houses her whole life for committing "womanslaughter." Oh yes you heard me right they even renamed it in favor of women. At 19 she ends up killing another girl and for some reason is reruited for a spy missing to retrieve an egg for the Queen. No idea why they picked her but she has to go live in Patrus with her new "husband."
In comes Lee, I never really liked him, he's a very bland kind of guy. So they get married and plan to steal this egg that had vital information in it. All seems kinda boring right? Well im not gunna lie to you, it is!
But dont worry it gets better! Because we get her very hot love interest Viggo. Not sure about the name but his tough guy demenour could win over any girl. Violet is supposed to set him up for the crime they are going to commit but ends up falling in love with this man. I dont blame her though, his long hair, rock hard bod from all that cage fighting. I wouldnt be able to resist either! And neither of them can! They have the hottest almost sex scene that could have been straight outta fifty shades. I needed some ice water after that!
The ending had saying WTF at least 5 times! The Queen is murdered and somehow Vioelt takes off with the egg.. sorry for the spoiler! I'm also not exactly sure how the name of the book related to the story.. but I can't wait for the second book for hopefully more answers and a lot more Viggo!
My rating for the book 7/10.. I gave an extra point for that hot make out sess ;) The next book is The Gender Secret!

Sky Chasers #2
Alright onto book number 2 of the Glow series! I dont know what I'm doing with this whole blog thing but hopefully I'm doing ok for now. Maybe soon I'll get into a good grove!
So! This book is Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan.
So we left off in the last book to Waverly and all the girls making it back to the Empyrean ship! Awesome right? Well not exactly.. While on the New Horizon, Anne Mather treated the girl horribly. She harvested their eggs and kept their parents captive. They were also a very religious ship, everyone attended mass regularly and Anne Mather was the pastor. But in Waverlys eyes she was a brainwashing monster! Which I totally agree!
When Waverly gets back to the ship her and Kieran's relationship takes a turn for the worse since he became the leader of the ship. She thinks he is just like Anne Mather and going to brainwash everyone on the ship. Once again, I totally agree! Kierans power goes straight to his head and honestly I never liked him and Waverly together. She is such a strong headed and adventures women who questions everything. Kieran is too on the straight and arrow, never gunna break a rule type of guy. Even if none of this happened I don't think they could have made it work. There's also no way she was going to get married and have kids at 15! The second he would have asked her to marry him I think she would have ran. Which I totally would have too though!
On to our boy Seth. In the first book he is very hateable. Every action he does you just want to punch him in the face for being such a dick. But in this book he really grows on you and by the end all you can think is how perfectly he and Waverly compliment each other and you pray to God that they end up together. He's also the only one trying ot save the ship while Kieran is on a man hunt for Seth, which is just an ego thing because he knows Waverly likes him
Spark isn't as exciting and thrilling as Glow but still good in its own way. It definitley took me longer to read this book. It's a lot more internal confict on the ship. Kieran against Seth, Waverly against Kieran, and Seth trying to save the whole damn ship from the stowaway. I think Kieran's head had grown way too big and he needs to take a couple steps back and let people help because in the end, (spoiler alert) the whole damn ship blows up! I really think this was a good second book to the series, it had a lot more info and background about the history of the 2 ships and their former captain. Now i haven't read the last book yet but I hope it has lots more conflict in it since everyone is going to be living on one ship now!
My rating for this book 7/10. The last book is Flame!

Sky Chasers
This first book I'm going to talk about is one of the best finds ever. I found this book at the dollar store, YES! the dollar store, my favorite place in the entire world. You have to find a good store though that actually has books, you can find some gems in there, I've got other books from there I have yet to read.
So! This book is Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan.
Some background on the book for better understanding. This book takes places many years into the future on a spaceship! There are 2 space ships, the  Empyrean and the New Horizon. So back on earth there's a evironmental catastrophe and Earth is dying so these 2 spaceship set sail for what they are calling New Earth. While aboard they come across fertility problems. The Empyrean discovers the cure but ends up sabatoging the other ships eggs in the women instead of helping them. Ok, seriously who does that??
Fast forward 15 years and this is where the book begins with your 3 main character Waverly, Kieran, and Seth. Honestly all these characters are so great! Waverly turns into a huge badass and takes no shit from anyone but neither would I if I was kidnapped. Oh yeah, so the New horizon ends up attacking the Empyrean and stealing all the girls! This is where the books hooked and sunk its claws into me. Like an all out space evasion that ends up killing all the parents and leaving all the kids 16 years and younger to man the ship.
Seth starts out as the shitty tyrant who tries to take over the ship, but is unsuccessful because hes basically a dictator and tries to kill Kieran. Kieran by the way is the only person who knows how to operate the ship. Yeah so basically a big masculinity contest for power. Kieran ends up turning into a jesus freak which i guess is ok but it gets super annoying and all the power goes to his head. Him and Waverly were also dating and about to get married and have kids at 16 and 15. Honestly that would freak me out being that young and knowing you have to reproduce at such a young age to keep the human race alive. No pressure at all though right?!
So last tid bit about the book that was absolutley horrible but made for a great part of the book. All the girls have been kidnapped! They end up staying on the new horizon for months while the boys try to find them (spoiler alert! they do and make it back to the ship) So while they are on the New Horizon they meet a lady named Anne Mather. Nice looking lady on the outside, ruthless women on the inside. She tried to place nice with the girls but Wavery knew otherwise. She fought them at every turn, until and here's the awul part. Anne Mather is holding some parents captive, Waverly finds them but gets SHOT in the process. While they are treating the bullet wound THEY STEAL HER EGGS FROM HER TO IMPREGNANT THE WOMEN ON THE SHIP. Once again.. WHO DOES THAT! Waverly eventually gets all the girls off the ship after exposing Anne Mather for the bitch she is.
If you havent already been convinced... go read this book and see for yourself! It's part of a 3 book series and I'll talk about the 2nd book next!
my rating of this book 8/10

To the beginning
Why I want to start a blog?
so i’ve been thinking about this for awhile now and i’m still not exactly sure what blogging is all about. i used to think it was just about people trying to boast about their lives and try to make themselves feel better by seeming cool on the internet. Well at least that what the one person i knew was blogging for. she wanted to be internet famous like all the fashion and makeup gurus out there, but that’s not the point. Me? i think i just want to write down what’s in my head. And what’s that you might ask? well my favorite hobby to do is read. yes read. i’m like a little old lady sometimes when it comes to hobbies.
SO what’s my blog going to be about?
Basically i want to read my books and write down everything i have to say about them. Is it going to be like a book report you might ask? No, hopefully it’s more fun than that and i can get my message across of how i feel about the books. I’ve read a lot of great books in the last year and i really want to read them again. I want to talk about how fantastic i think they are cuz i never have anyone to talk to about them. So this is the closest i can get to getting all the feels out because I there’s so much emotion after reading some of these books and sometimes you just gotta tell someone. Or the entire internet. And if just one person reads it and decides they want to read that book then that’s cool but that’s not even why i want to do it. I just want to be able to express my love for these books properly.
I haven’t been reading lately but I’ve got a lot of books I can write about. I dont know if anyone will even read this or like it but I’m doing this for me not everyone else!
