Here to remind people in the US that service dogs can legally be removed from establishments for acting out or not being under control.

The favorite remark of people telling handlers to suck it up about the fake SD epidemic is "well you wanted it so there is no proof any dog is a service dog, and this is the consequence"

Except legally, any handler must answer to 2 ADA questions (when asked by an employee/owner of an establishment) AND any animal, regardless of legitimate Service Animal status, CAN BE REMOVED under certain circumstances. Those circumstances include but are not limited to:

Excessive barking, relieving themselves inappropriately, harassing other customers, and damaging merchandise, not being under handler control.

If businesses would just enforce what they legally already can, the fake service dog problem would decrease dramatically

We're not shopping at Target folks. How we spend our money in a system that requires us to endlessly consume is a solid tool to lean in on. A reminder to the "the American government wouldn't..." crowd. They have. They have made their own internment camps before. They have rounded up innocent citizens and immigrants before. The victims of which are still alive to this day and trying to share their stories with the world, they have been trying to warn us for a long time. George Takei (as seen above) is a famous example of this. He has written about his experiences time and time again, even publishing a book talking about his time in these camps. He may be famous now, but at the time he was just another kid forced from his home. To this day he still firmly dedicates himself to trying to educate and inform people, trying to spread awareness with his platform. The American Government can and will do terrible things. Yeah in the USA service dogs are legally allowed to be trained by their disabled handlers to help reduce costs.

Additionally the legal requirements for SD in the US are really violently simple. The dog must be Clean, Under Handler Control, Know At Least ONE task that helps mitigate a disability. That's it.

Aggressive dogs, disruptive dogs, out of control dogs , and dogs with no task training are all automatically forfeiting any protections they have when they claim to be a SD. Even if the handler is disabled, if the dog isn't under control and trained to help them, it's a fake service dog, and that's dangerous to actual teams.

service dogs cost 10-30k. its genuinely disgusting to act like its ablest to “fake” having a service dog when 90% its a homeless person trying to exist in public/someone low income. fucking gross

I don't think Service Dogs have to be trained by a professional trainer who you have to pay thousands to. I am currently owner training my own dog. The only reason I said that 'just because someone is disabled doesn't mean they have the right to fake a service dog' is because my dog was almost attacked by an untrained dog a wheelchair user had in a store. Not only is it illegal to have an aggressive service dog where I live, but it's very dangerous.

I'm not sure if I understand that second part, but no matter what the income is, a dog can still be trained. I don't think it's exactly 'ableist', but just inconsiderate towards real handlers who have put in the hundreds of hours of training to have public access rights, no matter what their status is.

I get SOO annoyed whenever people complain about the media using the word "alleged", especially when there is video footage of the crime happening... people complain that it's some sort of media bias, and not like... straight up a VIOLATION OF A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT if they don't say "alleged"

The presumption of innocence is a right. Luigi's rights have been violated repeatedly in this regard.

And possibly also his right to a fair trial, since they are creating SO MUCH bias against him
