The Boon AU is a butterfly-effect retelling of the warrior cats series. It explores what would happen if the first two main protagonist and anatagonist, Firestar and Scourge, had the other's opportunities in life. This leads Scourge to become the warrior cat Tinyfrost, and Firestar to become the street cat king Boon of FireClan. Other stories will unfold from the different impacts these two characters had on their respective stories, and I'll be posting the art and info from these stories here! - DragonwolfRookeIMPORTANT NOTE FOR PERMISSIONS:Using the character designs posted here for Boon AU fanart? Longtail, warrior of ThunderClan, later Longstar leader of ShadowClan.
In the Boon AU, Longtail never fully believed the story about Tigerclaw's attempted murder, and thought his old friend and idol had been treated unfairly. He listened to Darkstripe's rants about it, and distrusted Redtail and Tinyfrost. When Darkstripe wanted to leave ThunderClan after Redstar became leader, Longtail agreed.
They tracked down Tigerclaw, who was living as a kittypet with Sasha. For a time the four were happy there, forming a found family in Sasha's garden. Sasha and Longtail became good friends.
Longtail went with the group to ShadowClan when Sasha needed a medicine cat to help with her kitting. Nightstar took pity on the group, and allowed them to stay. Longtail was grateful for this.
When Tigerclaw started gunning to take over ShadowClan, however, Longtail couldn't support it. He realized that Tigerclaw was everything he had denied - an ambitious murderer willing to do anything for power. When Tigerstar declared himself leader of ShadowClan and had Nightstar imprisoned, Longtail alone stood up to him, begging him to not do this. Tigerclaw proceeded to tear Longtail's ear off and have him imprisoned too.
He and Nightstar were not released until TigerClan was defeated, Tigerstar driven out of the forest, and Darkstripe was dead. Nightstar resumed his leadership of ShadowClan, and named Longtail his deputy, much to Longtail's surprise. He did this as he was the only warrior who stood up to Tigerclaw, even though it cost him greatly.
Tigerstar's betrayal and Darkstripe's death hit Sasha and Longtail both very hard, and they comforted each other through their complicated grieving. Longtail stepped up as a pseudo-father-figure for Hawkkit, Mothkit and Tadpolekit. Over time he fell in love with Sasha, but she didn't feel comfortable in ShadowClan after everything that happened with Tigerstar. When her kits were apprenticed, she left ShadowClan to roam, and Longtail loved her from afar while supporting her need for a new start.
Later in life he would succeed Nightstar and become Longstar, and lead ShadowClan to the lake territories. Hawksight, Mothfeather and Tadpolefang would go on the journey to Sun-Drown-Place - on their return journey they found their mother. They convinced Sasha to come back with them, and she ended up rejoining ShadowClan and reconnecting with Longstar. In their twilight years they fell in love properly.

Darkstripe, ThunderClan warrior.
In the Boon AU, when Tigerclaw was exiled Darkstripe refused to believe Redtail's story. He believed that Redtail felt threatened by Tigerclaw's strength and popularity, and arranged with an outsider to fake a murder attempt and get rid of Tigerclaw. He refused to trust Tinyfrost and Redtail after that point.
He was appointed Ravenpaw's mentor after Tigerclaw's exile, but treated him poorly, taking out his resentment on him. He partially blamed Ravenpaw, since he testified against Tigerclaw. Darkstripe saw that as an unacceptable betrayal from an apprentice of Tigerclaw (which he himself used to be.)
When Bluestar died under suspect circumstances, Darkstripe was convinced that Redstar had ordered Tinyfrost to murder her. He refuse to remain in ThunderClan under Redstar's leadership, and left to find Tigerclaw. Longtail, who'd believed the same, also left the Clan. They tracked Tigerclaw's last sightings to the Twolegplace kittypet neighborhood, where they found him living with Sasha.
When Tigerclaw and Sasha had to return to the forest after she became pregnant, Darkstripe and Longtail went with them to ShadowClan. He firmly supported Tigerstar in his coup of ShadowClan, and died on the battlefield against ThunderClan and FireClan.

Whitestorm, ThunderClan warrior.
In the Boon AU, Whitestorm and Tinyfrost meet as children - they are around the same age - and Whitekit played a small role in Sunstar sparing Tiny and taking him to Pine to raise. Whitestorm didn't remember the event as much as Tinyfrost would, and didn't recognize him when he joined ThunderClan as an adult.
Canonically, Whitestorm is killed by Bone during the BloodClan battle. In the Boon AU, Bone is fighting alongside ThunderClan instead of against them (as part of FireClan.) Thus, Whitestorm wasn't killed in the final battle.
After the destruction of the forest started, Bluestar in StarClan chose Whitestorm as ThunderClan's representative to go on the journey to Sun-Drown-Place. He would be the oldest cat on the journey, and provided a wise approach to that adventure. He took on a fatherly role for many of the journeymates (who almost all had dead fathers and/or daddy issues.)
On this journey, rather than going through the mountains, the journeymates went through the lowlands - so instead of meeting the Tribe of Rushing Water, they met the Clowder. The Clowder was a collection of loosely affiliated cats, living on a ranch as part of a free-roaming cat rescue colony. One of those cats, a deaf cat named Tumbleweed, took a shine to Whitestorm, and the two fell in love. After he sustained injuries in a fight, Whitestorm elected to stay behind with the Clowder while the journeymates finished their adventure. He lived out the rest of his days with Tumbleweed.

Sunstar, leader of ThunderClan.
His story is practically the same as canon, but with one small change. In canon, Thistleclaw was sniffing around and smelling kittypets near the border (this was Tiny exploring.) He wanted to do something about it, and so Thistleclaw asked Bluefur to take Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw on a patrol to check it out. This led to Tiny getting chased into Twolegplace.
In the Boon AU, Sunstar asks Bluefur to fetch Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw - but then sees Whitekit begging Bluefur to come with. Feeling nostalgic about when he took Bluekit on a jaunt around the territory, and happy that Bluefur was reconnecting with Whitekit, Sunstar changed his mind, and told Bluefur it was alright - as long as he came with, and they needn't bother Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw.
As a result, Bluefur, Sunstar, and Whitekit are the three who encounter Tiny. Sunstar has compassion on the lost kit, and takes him to the only kittypet he knows - Pine, the ex-leader of ThunderClan. Pine would go on to raise Tinyfrost to adulthood.
Sunstar made a big impression on little Tiny, and became his mental image for what a true Warrior should be like.
From StarClan, Sunstar would watch over Tinyfrost - and also over Boon, as he was one of the cats who initially delivered the Fire Alone prophecy. He was curious to see how fate would treat them differently after it diverged.

Ravenwhisker, ThunderClan medicine cat - and later FireClan warrior.
Canonically, Ravenpaw flees ThunderClan after witnessing Redtail's murder. He becomes a barn cat and is heavily implied to fall in love with barn cat Barley.
In the Boon AU, instead of Graypaw meeting Rusty, it was Ravenpaw. As a result, his mentor Tigerclaw witnessed them meet, and stepped in to attack and drive off Rusty. This led him to Twolegplace and his future as the founder of FireClan.
Ravenpaw later testified against Tigerclaw after his attempted murder of Redtail. As a result, he became the target of abuse from Longtail and especially Darkstripe, who Bluestar appointed as his new mentor (mostly as a test of loyalty for Darkstripe, and because she wanted Ravenpaw to keep an eye on him.)
His friendship with Graypaw waned as a result of that awkwardness, and he became closer friends with his brother Dustpaw and with Tinypaw, who he admired for his role in saving Redtail.
When the kittens are kidnapped by ShadowClan, Ravenpaw and Dustpaw both went with Tinyfrost to save them - this earned them their warrior names, Ravenwhisker and Dustpelt. However, they were sent to rescue WindClan right after - during which, Ravenwhisker experienced a vision for the first time. Barkface, seeing the signs, encouraged Ravenwhisker to pursue the path of medicine cat for his Clan. Ravenwhisker didn't want to, but felt like StarClan was demanding it, and so he agreed. He was trained by Barkface, who mentored him in WindClan for a few weeks before sending him home.
After the death of Sandpaw and other fractures to their friendship, Ravenwhisker tried to hold Dustpelt and Tinyfrost together - somewhat unsuccessfully.
Later in life, after Tinyfrost had been exiled and Tigerstar was encroaching on their borders, Spottedleaf visited Ravenwhisker and gave him the Fire Alone Will Save Our Clan prophecy. This led Ravenwhisker and Redstar to FireClan, where they met Boon, Barley, and the rest of the FireClan cats. After they helped to save ThunderClan and the forest, Ravenwhisker would visit FireClan as a goodwill ambassador to keep those friendships strong. He came to know Barley, and over time the two fell in love.
When the Clans needed to leave the forest during its destruction, Ravenwhisker chose to stay behind and join FireClan, where he could be a warrior again and be with Barley.

Dustpelt, ThunderClan warrior.
Originally as an apprentice he is antagonistic to Tinypaw, but when the aftermath of Tigerclaw's exile tends to get Ravenpaw targeted - and Tinypaw defends him - Dustpaw warms up to him. Eventually, he and his brother Ravenpaw both look up to Tinypaw like an older brother, and the three are thick as thieves.
After he becomes a warrior, at the battle of the gorge, Sandpaw dies after Tinyfrost failed to stop her from falling into the gorge. Dustpelt blames him, and the friendship fractures after that - especially after Ravenwhisker becomes the medicine cat. Dustpelt would grieve Sandpaw deeply, as well as grieve his friendship with Tinyfrost - especially when the truth about Tinyfrost's actions comes to light.

Cinderclaw, ThunderClan warrior in the Boon AU. Aka AU Cinderpelt.
In canon, Tigerclaw sets a trap for Bluestar near the Thunderpath, hoping to kill her there. Cinderpaw falls into that trap and is hit by a car, leaving her without the use of her hind leg. She would go on to be the ThunderClan medicine cat Cinderpelt. Additionally, it is implied that Cinderkit and her siblings Thornkit, Brackenkit, and Brightkit were the ones taken by ShadowClan in the very first book, but there are a lot of continuity errors.
In the Boon AU, Cinderkit and Brackenkit are born as a litter to Frostfur, who then immediately gets pregnant again with Thornkit and Brightkit (as well as an unnamed gray kit I've been calling Emberkit.) Because Cinder and Bracken were still kits when their siblings were born, they were closer than most separated littermates, and many even considered all five littermates. Thornkit, Brightkit, and Emberkit were among the kits taken by ShadowClan, while Brackenkit and Cinderkit were older and left behind. They were overjoyed when their siblings were returned. (Emberkit likely died of illness the following winter. I am still doing continuity research.)
Tigerclaw's early exile meant Cinderpaw never ventured near the Thunderpath. Her mentor was Dustpelt, while her brother Brackenpaw was mentored by Goldenflower. She trained hard, but when it came time for her to earn her warrior name, Bluestar was in the midst of her distrust-arc - she trusted no one in the Clan, was mad at StarClan, and refused to give names to any of the apprentices. Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw took this in stride, but it was difficult. Eventually Redtail simply asked her and Brackenpaw to join the warrior's dens without their names, which is what prompted Swiftpaw and Brightpaw to try to prove themselves to Bluestar (which ended badly.)
When Bluestar was killed and Redstar became leader, he righted the wrong and gave Cinderpaw, Brackenpaw, Thornpaw and Brightpaw their warrior names - as well as giving Swiftpaw a posthumous name. Cinderpaw's warrior name was Cinderclaw.
Later in life, when elderly Goldenflower succeeded Redstar, Goldenstar named Cinderclaw her deputy. Cinderclaw would be a pillar of leadership until Goldenstar's death, when she succeeded her as the leader Cinderstar.
Note: Any events after The Prophecies Begin are subject to change as I tweak my Boon AU ideas, but I am quite attached to the idea of leader Cinderstar. <3

Deadfoot, the WindClan deputy and Crowstorm's father in the Boon AU.
In canon Deadfoot is implied to be killed during the battle with TigerClan in The Darkest Hour. He is then the StarClan cat who chooses his son Crowpaw to go on the journey to sun-drown-place.
In the Boon AU, Deadfoot is killed when TigerClan attacked WindClan. His death allowed Tigerclaw to weasel his way into getting WindClan's 9 lives. Ashfoot had just joined the nursery as a pregnant queen at this time, pregnant with Deadfoot's kits. She would later accompany Gorsefire on his mission to find and kill Tigerstar, intent on avenging her mate. Later in StarClan, Deadfoot still chooses his son Crowpaw to represent WindClan in the journey to sun-drown-place.

Ashpaw, ThunderClan apprentice in the Boon AU.
In canon, Ashpaw becomes Ashfur, who becomes a major butt to the Clans forever and always because of a girl rejecting him.
In the Boon AU, Ashpaw is one of several casualties in the battle between ThunderClan and FireClan vs TigerClan. Had he lived to adulthood, his warrior name would have been Ashfall.
Sidebar: one of the games I like to play, when designing the Boon AU, is a rule I like to call "Reverse Fanfiction". The goal is to plan the story in such a way, that it makes the canon books feel like fanfiction. Aka, Ashpaw - clearly, one of the Erin Hunters really loved Ashpaw's character and thought he died too soon. So she wrote in that he lived and that he fell in love with Firestar's daughter because that's what he deserves as her favorite NPC. Of course, then one of the other Erins who had their own OTP of Bramble and Squirrel went Nu-uh, and wrote in fanfiction making those two get together and Squirrel to dump Ash. In retaliation, the other Erin decided WELL then Ashfur is gonna try to kill Firestar, and try to kill Squirrelflight's kids, and try to become the king of hell, because he is the edgiest heartbroken wet little meow meow.
I find the "reverse fanfiction" game to be almost as much fun as the actual fanfiction I'm creating haha. And in the Boon AU, the Erin Hunters are a middle school creative writing club, who are writing the books by passing them back and forth between each other. As you do.

Tallstar, WindClan leader in the Boon AU.
In canon, TigerClan attacked WindClan to force them to join during Tigerstar's conquering of the forest. During this fight, Tigerstar killed Gorsepaw, an apprentice who Firestar cared about, as a message to Firestar. Tallstar was leader at this time, and was forced to admit defeat. But once Tigerstar was dead, he joined Firestar in the fight against BloodClan.
In the Boon AU, TigerClan attacked WindClan as they had before. In this battle, the WindClan deputy Deadfoot was killed, and Tigerclaw pinned Tallstar and had his cronies catch an apprentice, who happened to be Gorsepaw. Tigerclaw threatened to kill Gorsepaw, unless WindClan agreed to join TigerClan. He also demanded that Tallstar name him, Tigerclaw, as his new deputy, to give him a recognizable authority over Tallstar's cats. Tallstar felt forced to agree, to spare Gorsepaw's life.
Immediately after Tallstar shouted that he agreed and that Tigerclaw was the new deputy, Tigerclaw killed him, taking his last life.
Because Tallstar had officially named Tigerclaw his deputy, that meant that Tigerclaw was now the legal successor to WindClan's leadership. After the battle, Tigerclaw went to the Moonstone, and received 9 lives from StarClan in WindClan's name. StarClan was unhappy about how he had cheated the system, and the 9 lives he received were given with malice by StarClan - especially the life he received from Tallstar himself.
After TigerClan was disbanded and Tigerstar driven out of the forest, Tallstar felt a measure of peace. Tallstar in StarClan continued to watch over WindClan, and later delivered a prophecy to Gorsepaw - now a warrior named Gorsefire - to seek out an assassinate the missing Tigerstar, so that WindClan's 9 lives could be returned to their leadership.
(Oh, and in case there is any doubt - in the Boon AU, Tallstar and Jake are in love, and reunite in StarClan.)

Nightstar, ShadowClan leader after Brokenstar.
In canon, Brokenstar escapes with his 9 lives after ThunderClan drives him out of ShadowClan, and Nightpelt steps up as leader. Unfortunately he cannot get his 9 lives while Brokenstar still lives, so he doesn't get any. Meanwhile Brokenstar continues to live until Yellowfang poisons him, many moons later. This gap in 9 lives meant that Tigerstar could become ShadowClan's leader and get 9 lives after Nightstar died of illness.
In the Boon AU, Redtail and Tinyfrost chased after Brokenstar during the ShadowClan battle, and Redtail killed him in revenge for the death of Spottedleaf. All his 9 lives were lost, leading Nightstar to become the full leader of ShadowClan. When the plague passed through the Clan, he only lost one life, instead of dying completely.
When Tigerclaw joined ShadowClan and then staged a coup to take over, he wanted to kill Nightstar in order to take his 9 lives - but Tigerclaw's mate Sasha pleaded on Nightstar's behalf. He'd been compassionate to them, and it was thanks to his kindness that she'd been able to safely have Hawkkit, Tadpolekit and Mothkit in ShadowClan.
Tigerclaw reluctantly bowed to his mate's wishes, and only imprisoned Nightstar while naming himself the leader. He still wanted the 9 lives of a leader, but he'd have to go outside of ShadowClan to eventually get them.
After Tigerstar lost the battle against FireClan and ThunderClan, Nightstar resumed his role as leader of ShadowClan. He would live for several more years before his peaceful passing.

Jake, in the Boon AU. The legendary father of Tinyfrost and Boon.
Jake's role actually doesn't change at all between canon and the Boon AU - his life goes exactly the same, regardless of the circumstances that happen to his wayward children. But I will confirm that Tallstar and Jake were in love.
Actually, I'll also add - Jake, after death, continued to roam and wander as he did in life, roaming the mortal world as a ghost and roaming the places in between afterlives as an explorer. He would continue to visit Tallstar in StarClan.

Ruby and Socks, Tinyfrost's mean siblings in the Boon AU.
In canon, Ruby and Socks were cruel to Tiny as children. Later in life, when he was Scourge, they came to him to beg for help and for food when their Twoleg owners got rid of them. He kicked them out.
In the Boon AU, BloodClan is never created. Ruby and Socks, when they lost their home, lived on the streets and struggled to survive. When they heard about FireClan, they jumped at the chance for safety in a group. While never as loyal as some to FireClan, they were still grateful for the security that came with it. Neither of them realized they were half siblings with Boon, as none of them knew their father.
They somewhat reluctantly joined FireClan in the battle against the forest cats. Ruby never saw Tinyfrost, but Socks spotted him in the fray. His sudden realization of his brother being alive, and a forest cat, shocked him so much that it gave his opponent an opening - and Socks was killed. Ruby returned to FireClan, unknowing of Socks' realization at the end.
It is possible that Tinyfrost and Socks reunited in StarClan, but I haven't decided yet. Do with that what you will.

Goldenflower, later Goldenstar, in the Boon AU.
In canon, Goldenflower was originally mates with Patchpelt who fathered her son Swiftpaw. She later becomes mates with Tigerclaw, and is the mother of Tawnypelt and Bramblestar. In the Boon AU, Patchpelt used her as a rebound from his relationship with Robinwing - and ultimately returned to be with Robinwing. This left her heartbroken. She and Redtail became friends at this time, as Redtail didn't approve of his older brother's actions, and tried to comfort Goldenflower as an apology.
Tigerclaw began to woo her, and she was falling for him, when he was exiled from ThunderClan after trying to murder Redtail. Goldenflower was furious and heartbroken once more, and swore off relationships, choosing to focus on Swiftkit and ThunderClan. Thus, Tawnypelt and Bramblestar were never born in the Boon AU. When Swiftpaw was killed by dogs, her heart broke again.
When Redstar became leader, he first made Tinyfrost his deputy; but after it came to light that Tinyfrost murdered Bluestar and was exiled, Redstar made Goldenflower his deputy. She comforted him through the betrayal of Tinyfrost, who was his mate, as Redstar had once comforted her through heartbreak.
She served as his deputy for the years of his tenure as leader, and ultimately succeeded him in her old age in the lake territories, becoming the elderly leader Goldenstar. Despite her advanced age, her 9 lives filled her with strength beyond her years, and she served wisely and strongly in the care of her Clan.

Bluestar, ThunderClan leader before Redstar.
In canon, Bluestar is almost killed by Tigerclaw, leading her to grow in distrust towards her Clan and StarClan. Ultimately she dies saving Fireheart from the dog pack.
In the Boon AU, Tigerclaw is exiled much earlier after his attempt on Redtail's life. Bluestar dealt with this better than in canon, as it wasn't her own life that was threatened. However as time went on, she and Redtail butted heads more and more often over how best to lead the Clan, and her sense of distrust towards the Clan grew as trauma from her youth resurfaced. She was also faced with resistance from Darkstripe and Longtail, who became thorns in her side after she exiled their friend Tigerclaw. She came to resent Redtail and distrust Tinyfrost, who was his strongest supporter.
She refused to give Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw their warrior names, same with Swiftpaw Brightpaw and the rest. When Redtail finally asked Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw to just go ahead and join the warriors den without their names, Swiftpaw felt like he and the others had to do something drastic in order to prove they could be trusted - so he and Brightpaw went to try and find the dogs. As a result, Brightpaw and Swiftpaw were both mauled, and Swiftpaw died, same as canon. When Bluestar gave Brightpaw the name Lostface, that prompted the biggest fight with Redtail that they'd had yet. Tinyfrost, seeing this, decided to take matters into his own paws. Redtail would be a better leader, and Tinyfrost was willing to do what it took to make that happen.
Bluestar was lured to the river by Tinyfrost, where he attacked and killed her. He then lead the dog pack to the river, so they could maul her body and he could stage it like they killed her. In Tinyfrost's mind, he was doing this for the good of the Clan, and removing a leader who had become tyrannical. When Redstar later found out the truth of Bluestar's murder, he was horrified.
When Boon came to StarClan, Bluestar had been one of the cats watching his progress with FireClan, as she remembered him from his days of watching the forest from his fence. She was glad to see how far he had come.
