tbh my real dark truth regarding jayvik is that i think the abject refusal to acknowledge how gay it is, is the ship's secret sauce. castiel didn't just tell dean he loved him, he said that, and then dean didn't reciprocate, and then castiel got swallowed by the Ooze. companies toeing the line to see how bro they can get to the sun is how like 80% of great ships come about anyway, and even though we've mostly moved past the practice as a society, the impact is still the same. hell, maybe it's hitting this hard because no one's been pulling sterek or sherlock or supernatural moves like this in years

like harry's little jayvik moment started off with a joke about him needing a lawyer present because it's such a loaded question and because so many people on either side are hanging off of what he's saying like it's scripture from on high. and you don't GET that type of tension or investment (or four children in a cabin by the river catharsis) without the pushback

all this to say they should make jayvik unequivocally canon and i'm glad the 2014 queerbait Closer Than Lovers stuff fell out of fashion in favor of actual gay characters. but also riot's refusal to play in the space is an active ingredient in the yaoi cocaine
