I can easily go down a YouTube rabbit (beauty) hole for hours on end, sad but true! I recently came across a channel with a very attractive older woman who was dishing out beauty advice like she was a pro, the problem was she wasn’t. She was a beautiful woman who liked to play with makeup and enjoyed looking nice. There are a lot of these “self taught” beauty experts giving bad advice to millions of beauty lovers. I saw everything from making a mask with Elmer’s glue, which made my inner Aesthetician cringe! To this particular lady’s chanel warning older women not to contour or bake and follow her beauty routine, which of course had some MLM makeup brand she was working for. And I thought to myself this is just wrong, bad advice. She wasn’t an Aesthetician or professionally trained MUA. She didn’t know how to prep the skin on an older women to make contouring and baking possible. Although, she did prep her skin with moisturizers piled onto the eye area (keep in mind your skin can only absorb so much) all the time she kept saying, “keep hydrated”. I cringed realizing over 200,000 people saw it. Later that week I did a makeup look for a 70 year old women who was in a wedding. I contoured and baked her, she looked fabulous! So be wary of who you watch. Professionals are that for a reason, we spend years perfecting our craft to share our knowledge with you, the beauty lovers!!

Beauty Guru's
Maybe it's just me, maybe it's my age, or maybe it's a combination of both but I have some mixed feelings about all these beauty guru's. You know the ones with millions upon millions of followers? They show off their luxury hand bags, jet-setting lifestyle, and hordes of free makeup given to them by large cosmetic companies, the influensters of this generation, the new spokespeople for beauty who have reached new heights when it comes to excess. On one hand they have brought makeup artististry to the forefront more than ever before and I love that! They are also young, successful entrepreneurs in their own right, again terrific. But... And you know there is always one! But their over produced videos of applying loads of makeup to produce a flawless face within seconds is just not realistic nor is it achievable for most. It creates a want, a need for this over contoured, over highlighted, brow bursting, duck liped, unicorn infused nightmare for the professional who has to try to recreate it. And frankly it's not flattering when you are face to face with someone who has more foundation and makeup on than a corpse!

Some parents are proud when their kids get good grades. As a MUA I'm proud that my 19 year old did this look all on her own!

This month's #boxycharm has a beautiful #crownbrush perfect for foundation or applying contour/highlight. Also included is a #temptu liquid highlighter that's wonderful and buildable. The #browgal has also included a brow trio and brush. Last but not least a #ibybeauty powder contour pallet. All for only $21! These boxes are a great way to try products and build a kit.
