Today I participated in the first protest of A Week of Action happening at my school. Racial incidents have been happening non-stop on this campus and after no indictment and a stupid email from our school president entitled ‘All Lives Matter’ we decided to Shut Shit Down and take matters into our own hands. We were small but loud and shut down the main street to our school for over 2 hours. WE got into the Christmas Concert they were having and were allowed to sing freedom songs in front of the entire audience and they stood up with us to sing “We who believe in freedom will not rest. We who believe in freedom will not rest until we make it come.” It was the most empowering moment of my life.
These are not isolated incidents, these are not just happening in Ferguson and New York. This is a national and global issue. Action needs to be taken and we will not stop.
No Justice. No Peace.

Grand jury doesn’t indict NYPD officer accused in illegal chokehold death - reports
A New York City grand jury has decided not to indict the New York Police Department officer accused of killing a Staten Island man by putting him in an illegal chokehold. The NYPD is now preparing for more protests stemming from the decision.
Both the New York Post newspaper and the city’s NY1 media outlet reported shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday that a grand jury declined to indict Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner.

Here’s the peaceful side of the Ferguson protests the media isn’t showing you
Groups like Hands Up United and Millennial Activists United have been committed to community building and nonviolent protest since day one, and their work in the months since August 9 proves it.
In fact, most demonstrations in Ferguson unfold peacefully — assuming the police don’t escalate them with wrongful arrests and chemical-spewing teargas canisters. But you’d never know it from the billowing smoke clouds and flashing police sirens you see plastered across your TV screens.

Listen to Lesley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, and remember her son for who he really was. Remember Michael Brown and remember all the other black lives lost to police brutality and an unjust system.
