it's natural materials o'clock again & i made a stone golem.
a while ago, my partner's mother was moving and getting rid of some things, including a collection of rocks. i love a good rock, and when presented with a large wooden box of them, wanted to make a creature. i flirted with the idea of making something a little less stoney and a little more posable, but ended up deciding on this non-articulated sculpture. it has a metal wire skeleton, some tinfoil padding, and then just A Ton Of Rocks glued onto the frame. the face is a lake rock i found and painted some years ago, but didn't end up doing anything with until now.

Making clothes is just laying your strange sized fabrics on the floor and putting your draft cut outs over it, and repeatedly going: what the fuck and stabbing it with needles and cutting stuff out and adding pieces.
And between every step going to kitchen to get a cup of coffee, coming back and staring at the murder scene on the floor. And saying, what the fuck, what do you mean I don't have enough fabric for this, fuck it, no seam allowance we are going to Frankenstein this. And then stabbing it with needles and cutting pieces to make it work.

what you learn from hobbies:
consistent practice opens up whole worlds of skill that you couldn't imagine
making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential
activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them
wow everything is so expensive

love rediscovering things i thought i "outgrew." amazing how much mental energy i wasted being ashamed of interests that are actually the gold-bearing veins of my bedrock psyche? which i will be mining for profit and pleasure for decades to come? say it with me: reuse recycle reobsess

careers in science & academia are so Cassandra-coded. you possess a Great and Burdensome Knowledge (at heavy cost*), which is both its own reward and its own punishment. and no one fucking listens to you

12 frames of animation I made using knitting! I spent a long time on this and I’m so pleased with the results, really looking forward to trying more ‘yarnimation’ in the future. Process video out now too! 🐑

i think abt the part in the golden compass where it was noted that if your daemon chose to assume the form of a fish or some kind of ocean dwelling creature you could never leave the water again. at best you could dock, maybe walk a bit away from the shore, but that's it. chained to the water because your physical soul form commands it.

vampires with large families. little old lady vampire who keeps pictures of all 243 of her great-great-great-grandchildren in her wallet. she pulls it out and makes you coo over the baby photos (before she bites and drains your blood)
