If your plot feels flat, STUDY it! Your story might be lacking...

Stakes - What would happen if the protagonist failed? Would it really be such a bad thing if it happened?

Thematic relevance - Do the events of the story speak to a greater emotional or moral message? Is the conflict resolved in a way that befits the theme?

Urgency - How much time does the protagonist have to complete their goal? Are there multiple factors complicating the situation?

Drive - What motivates the protagonist? Are they an active player in the story, or are they repeatedly getting pushed around by external forces? Could you swap them out for a different character with no impact on the plot? On the flip side, do the other characters have sensible motivations of their own?

Yield - Is there foreshadowing? Do the protagonist's choices have unforeseen consequences down the road? Do they use knowledge or clues from the beginning, to help them in the end? Do they learn things about the other characters that weren't immediately obvious?

I always prefer it when it's applications at least feel explained though, like it's a SONIC screwdriver, it creates vibrations. I'm down with the Doctor scanning with it, I love the idea that they're so well versed in wound wave patterns that they're not doing some kind of sci fi reading, but literally deducing things through the patterns the sound waves make through whatever they're scanning.

I fundamentally agree, it's basically a flavoured magic wand, but I think that it should at least be a little bit explained how what is happening is happening.

the sonic screwdriver is and always has been a Convenience Device with completely arbitrary strengths and weaknesses and complaining about it being a get-out-of-jail-free card in the narrative is kinda silly

Gonna preface this by saying I'm a huge Pokémon fan, I love many of the games and the franchise has a special place in my heart.

But it's kinda insane seeing the discourse around Palworld and Pokémon. Specifically, the number of people sticking their necks so far out for Game Freak and The Pokémon Company.

This is the same company that for the last five years has pumped out less and less fun, passionate or worthwhile content, who've destroyed their own credibility to make as much money as possible, who literally no longer let you "catch 'em all". When designing their 1000th creature for their creature collection franchise, an incredible milestone, the idea they landed on was a creature MADE OF MONEY. Pokémon has lost any soul it had.

I don't care so much about the issue of copyright in all honesty, if The Pokémon Company want to pursue legal action with Palworld devs then that's what'll happen, but I'm moreso shocked to see how many people are so personally offended on behalf of a company that at this point could not care any less about the quality of their product, and could not care any more about their profit margins. And it's this kind of brand loyalty that lets them get away with releasing worse and worse content every single year.

I want more companions from outside the UK and US, I want more alien companions, I want more companions whose intellect RIVALS THE DOCTORS! I'd love to see the Doctor travel with a future incarnation of themselves whose just along for the ride lmao

why is there such a big thing in dw fandom that people think the companion needs to be relatable to the audience. do u not sometimes want to see someone in completely different circumstances/with different traits and flaws to u. personally i would find it incredibly boring if i could relate to every single companion
