johnny’s presence alone kept him on his toes; like a hyper-reactive dog he was ready to lay down his own life for him if the chance came. although johnny would have never asked such a thing, he was benny’s reason to continue. every fight, every arrest, all the pain benny experienced was nothing compared to the pain of losing johnny and to prevent that he needed to be strong. he became a renowned vandal the others looked to both in fear and admiration just as johnny was to him.

kathy however was more of an outright force. she kept him rooted to humanity; she was what first raised his doubts to the club. she wanted what was best for him and that continuous quarreling pulled benny back to rational thinking. kathy wanted him to think of a future beyond what being bike riding was and for the most part she succeeded ( albeit through the death of her “opposition” )
