“I woke up to the smell of toast and eggs drifting through sun-dappled curtains, and I thought how lucky I am to be alive in a world with sun-dappled anything.”

Quote
So the kitchen was the room that coaxed my desires and my preferences to life. I felt them so hard in this room. I fought for them because I fought for myself. Not against my mother or my family or the house itself, but in the way that a chick fights and punches itself out of its shell. Or you could see it as: I was a raw ingredient like everything else in the kitchen back then. I was fighting to become an integrated morsel so that there would be an appetite for me in the world, and so that I would know just what I was.   The lesson I learned is this: I will feel killed while I am alive if I am not allowed to make the tiny decisions that turn my regular day into a special occasion, like deciding to have a cup of English breakfast tea at 2 PM, or to eat a basil leaf just to say “Look at me! I eat leaves!” – that information is maybe the most important thing I know about myself. And I learned it by returning to that spot over and over again.

“My first day, my character does a [zip-line] into a pool and after I go the next person is gonna go and the whole chimney breaks and crashes in and I just see it happen and I just turn to Jesse and just went, ‘Yikes.’ That was apparently the best thing Fincher has ever heard in his life because he just came over to me and was just like, ‘Yikes…that’s good. That’s good.’” - Joe Mazzello on ad-libbing in The Social Network

If I could do girlhood again, I’d ask
to be scarier. Less whimpering—more pyromaniac
urges, more flirting with kerosene.
