friends to lovers never had a bad track. “scared i’ll ruin what we have” SLAPS. “friendship cuddles while secretly dying inside” BANGER. “teasing each other and holding eye contact for a little too long” KILLS ME. and don’t even get me STARTED on “screaming i love you in the middle of a heated argument.”

I'd love some advice about how to follow a plotline throughout a longer fic. I feel like outlines don't work for me, I write best when I just go with the flow. But that leaves my fics a little.... bumpy, as far as plot. As in, the story might randomly change directions at any given point.
The course of true love never did run smooth, and the path to a good story always has bumps.
That's why professional authors write draft after draft of their works. Often times, the final product barely resembles the first draft because some of those random directions end up being more interesting than others so the interesting ones get followed and the other ones get dropped.
Let yourself have bumps. There's no shame in that. And if you want to smooth them out, then you can go back in again and edit. Or get a beta to help you out.
The harder part of writing is getting to done. Once you find your ending, going back and revising the path to get there is a lot easier. You'll have a better idea of which of those random offshoots is actualyl important. You'll know which parts need to stay in and which parts it's okay to remove. Going back through when you've got a first draft done shows you all the little threads that you left dangling and all of the knots that you need to cut away.
Or just post what you have, bumps and all. Creations are always worth loving, perfection not required.

“Listen to me. You’re Kevin Day. You’re the best striker in the league, voted top player more times than I care to count, you live and breathe this fucking sport. If anyone can come back from this, it’s you.”

“I don’t expect you to understand it,” Jean says as he scoots himself fully up onto the bed until he can rest against the wall.
“Understand why you’re putting your life on the line for someone whose only redeemable qualities are that he’s good at Exy and looks decent? You’re right, I don’t.”

“You’re always going to be my number two, Kevin and I thought giving you this was going to be enough of a reminder of that.”
Kevin dodges Riko’s hand when it approaches his cheek.
“You’re lucky it’s permanent,” he says and sees the fist clench in his peripheral vision.

“He almost took out my kneecap. Practice will be fun tomorrow.”
“There’s no way you’re playing tomorrow.” Kevin’s mouth is so close to Jean’s ear that he feels the words being spoken into his neck and tenses.
“There’s no way I’m not,” Jean says and feels Kevin pull back from where his lips are brushing against the skin.

MAKE ME CHOOSE: JEAN MOREAU or NEIL JOSTEN — asked by @reitveld
Jean stood unflinching guard while Riko tore Neil apart again and again, but he was always there to pull Neil back to his feet afterward.

“Don’t insult me, Kevin.” Riko's smile doesn't falter as he jumps to his feet and crosses the distance between them. He speaks slowly, as if Kevin is particularly hard on the uptake. “Or Moreau, for that matter. He’s an idiot, but even he’s not stupid enough to go gossiping to the press. I just need him for the drills, so be a good boy and fetch him for me, please.”
