Hi! I'm Neah, a 20 year-old, full time college student with a full time job who tries to make art in their free time.Needle felting, sewing, ceramics; I do whatever I feel like at any given time and I am not consistent.I'm not here very often because this is solely an art and bug blog and not my main.

Boredom
We get noise complaints at work frequently. One of my jobs is to sit at the area for an hour and a half, twice a night, and just make sure no one is making noise.
Yesterday morning I was especially bored.
I spent about 20 minutes on this. Helped keeping me from dozing off.
Kept swapping between my podcast and this, which is why I drew the poscast in my phone instead of autodesk itself.

I did say I wanted to.
Mounted on 2ft 脳 2ft hardboard, with sewing thread used to make the web. The various moths and butterflies are done in white aceylic paint.
Its unfortunate how a camera just can't pick up some things. There is a very heavy coat of transparent, matte enamel spray paint, deliberately applied in a way to drip down the board from the top.

Series Project that was my final in the painting class I just finished.
All bugs are from pictures I took. The idea was moths/butterflies stuck in a spiders web, and I had originally wanted to mount them on a larger board and use thread to make a fake web between them all. I scraped that idea, though, since my final was due on the 8th and I did not have enough time.
Acrylic on primed chipboard.

A well inspired by a piece by claypigeonpottery from a good while back. I didn't do the horror aspects that one had, even though I was tempted too, but I just liked the idea of making a well.
The clay-body used here was cone 10 smooth sculpture, coil built and wheel carved down before being hand carved for the rest.
The outside of this well had an iron oxide wash, with the "wooden" parts having rutile painted over. The inside is Tenmoku Brown.
I want to find a way to get matte browns consistently with cone 10. This method I used here has worked beautifully in the past, but it turned weirly orange this firing. Unfortunately, all the brown underglazes I have tried tend to burn out even when marked for 10.

Barrel :)
The clay body was a chunk of leather-hard cone 10 smooth sculpture that I wheel carved down to shape.
The outside of the barrel has an iron oxide wash, with rutile painted on over; the metal rings are just straight iron oxide. The inside is Shaner Red with rutile and iron oxide contamination.
I really should try using a wood lathe since treating clay like its wood on a lathe is one of my favorite things. I can't wheel throw, but I can wheel carve :)

Two small trinkets I made quickly in my ceramics class on the last day for greenware work. Both were carved out of leather-hard clay chunks I fished out of the bottom of my studio locker. Because I do clay like a normal person. Both are under 3 inches tall/wide.
The clay body is Bravo Buff, not a body I find myself ever wanting to return to, but I still have atleast 30lbs of it left. For glaze, both use MG2 White. The bird also has Metalic Black, as well as both rutile and iron oxide.
The bird was supposed to be a bearded vulture, but unfortunately, the oxides I used for color did not stick. Guess he's just a bearded vulture who hasnt found iron rich mud yet.
Last Kiln of the spring semester was unloaded today, so I have a few pieces to post finally :)

Bold Jumping Spider I scooped off the sidewalk infront of my ceramics class, look how tiny he is compared to my bus pass.
He was relocated out of the way and into some plants. Figured being directly infront of the ceramics lab entrance was not a safe place.

I sort most of my work using tags:
Commonly used art tags:
#my art
#digital art
#traditional art
#ceramics
#needle felting
#my ocs
In addition to #my ocs, I also tag them by name specifically (#my ocs:[Name])
Invertebrate related tags:
#bugblr
#bug posting
For all of my invertebrate pictures, I will do my best to additionally tag them by their species, family and order if possible. Additional, generic tags (ie. spiders, moths, millipedes, etc.) will also be used.

About
A full time college student double majoring in Entomology and in the Arts, I do not have much personal time for art, but I still try to make room.
I focus on fantasy and mythological stories, and enjoy making monster designs to match. Invertebrates are a frequent aspect of my art as they are a primary interest of mine.
My medium of choice is primarily physical 3D mediums: needle felting, ceramics, paper mache, etc. I do also work in 2D mediums, digital and traditional both, with Clip Studio Paint being my program of choice, and fountain pen inking being my traditional favorite.
I enjoy collecting pictures of invertebrates i come across in my daily life and will share them here as well. I will do my best to tag content warnings, however, I make mistakes sometimes.
If you would like to contact me, just use Tumblr DM'S. If this site dies on us, I'll probably just vanish into the redwoods and be uncontactable.

Koch's Wolf Spider
Wolf Spiders are supposed to be common but I rarely ever actually see them around where I live. False Wolves? Often enough, but rarely actual wolf spiders.
I wish I had a better camera to use for little guys like this, but my phone is hard to get to focus on them, and they only sit still for so long.

Sorry for the shit pictures I feel bad for always spamming my friends about my little guys.
I only have dairy cows right now due to. Not having space. Probably because of how many plants I have.
The bottle cap is a food bowl filled with fish flakes, freeze-dried shrimp and the occasional veggie treat. As an addition to their leaf litter and twigs.
They go fucking nuts for the shrimp though.
Also.

Babies <3
Also springtails visible there.
I started my colony back in late December/early January, and I started with only 6 very dehydrated and unhappy adults due to a shipping accident, so finally seeing babies has made me so fucking happy. I was close to looking to get more adults to add in.
Probably will add more adults in anyway since 6 is a very low number for genetics. But I'll wait a few months for that.
Tumblr media
Look at their little faces :)
I think it's amusing the adults all found their way into the tanks drainage layer and live down there during the day while the babies are all always in the leaf litter and under twigs.
This is my first time having invert pets and since I'm going into entomology I hope to have room eventually for. Many more. Too many more.
