thinking about the fact that in order to serve on the jury of a death penalty case you have to be willing to impose the death penalty (i.e. not be categorically opposed to it on principle) otherwise you'll be dismissed, so juries in death penalty cases tend to be disproportionately white and male and have been shown to be more likely to vote for conviction. just in general death penalty as a practice is horrific and barbaric but this specific part of it also just feels so insane to me

oh my god when terfs push to ban trans women from competitive sport that “don’t make sense” like darts, chess, e-sports etc it’s not because they’re “admitting” they think cis women are worse at hand eye coordination or chess or gaming. it is just because they don’t want trans women to compete in anything at all, because they think we shouldn’t exist in the public eye. i understand the misconception, but we don’t need to invent an internally consistent motivation to claim they have; the “internal consistency” to them is that trans women are not women and thus don’t deserve to play alongside cis women. it’s the exact same idea as banning trans women from women’s bathrooms. they don’t want us to use the men’s, they want us to not have a public place we can go to at all.

"independent artists" (i.e. non-proletarianized artists who still cling to petit bourgeois aspirations) are, at their core, mechanisms of image generation, whose sole purpose is to put to Image some straightforward Prompt by an external force (be that a Commissioner or a force more abstract, like the Economic Force of Whatever Aesthetic Sensibilities Are Most Widely Marketable At A Given Moment.) This field of Professional Image Generation, of course, subsumes a much larger group of professions than just "visual artist." All of the petit-bourgeois-aspirationalist Slop Content Creators that liberals love to raise up as bastions of bootstraps theory can be described as Image Generators. "Fic" "writers," "fan" "artists," "Etsy" "shop" "owners," "video essay" "content creators," all are threatened by a technology which seeks to emulate the task of Mindless Image Generation.
