The interesting thing about the wheelers is that they are written nuanced enough that we sympathize with them but they are all lowkey shitty people who use others for their benefit and it's crazy how they get away with it because of pov distortion and how the characters present themselves.

Like, mike using el for his DIY conversion therapy when (I personally believe) he knew he had feelings for will all the way back in st3. Nancy dating Steve when she knew she had feelings for Jonathan and Nancy ditching Baraba (throwing band under the bus 💀) the moment she got in with the "cool kids" (aka Steve and his gang). Karen pursuing Billy for half a year and dropping him like a hot potato when she realized playing hot sexy republican mama might have some consequences for her family (and really the only reason billy died was because he was out on his way to meet karen and all karen could even muster after ghosting him was a measly "oops sorry! Goodbye!").

Like it's bonkers to me that ted is regarded as the worst person in the wheeler family and the resident wheeler family sin-eater (everything that's wrong with the wheelers is somehow abstractly teds fault) when honestly the rest of them are suck real bad as well but just have a sympathetic pov as a way to elicit sympathy from the audience (and I don't mean this as a criticism, I believe this is done intentionally).

Anyways this totally is not written to show how shitty upper middle class white people are in the "normal is a raging psychopath" show. Can't be pointing out the hypocrisy in framing "using people as pawns" as a psychopathic trait but excusing it when it comes from "normal" (presenting) people.
