Evaluation
My inspiration of the game is from my personal experience from the past and present. I have a strong connection with the children from 4-14 years from my role in my Church. This began on creating an innovative design. Initial my design are composed of three (book, board game & AR). The idea of combine technology and traditional design is fascinating. However, concluded on one design outcome (board game). Main reason is my time management, I struggle to stay focus but continued attending most of my tutorials thus gave me a push, equally to the time limit. Moreover, design a game had many challenges in design each component to complete the mechanic of the game also many trials and errors printing (packaging, leaflets, card, board game and players).
The board is for the 5-7 years old to rescue the Hawksbill turtle who are endangered (fishes net, hooks, eating plastics). The supporting research were secondary also resourceful, I’ve learnt more about endangered species now.
Moreover, the mechanic of the game was every changing because some of my concept ideas were missing an achievement. Thus, when from learning a journey of a turtle to rescuing the turtle. Still, I’m happy with the result but if I had more time and motivation, I would design my initial idea or adapt it to an app.

Final test print
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the the approval of my technician, he help me print the board in A1 as I’ve set the document on this size. The size of the board was difficult too concluded because I want the board to be big and appropriate.
Overall, cut it out, build it together, with the cards and players in place. The board looks complete. The print was vibrate but a little saturated but still had a coral reef feel.

Further development test print
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the improvement I’ve changed the mechanic of the game one last time as from my final feedback the mentioned that the mechanic is unclear, thus altered it.
The new mechanics is to have two question mark cards ‘questions’ and a ‘star’ a fun activity card. Whoever finishes on the finish line with the most ‘question mark’ card will rescue all of the turtle in the game (board).
The test print was successful along with the ‘players. Also my mocked up packaging box (small scale) on what it will look like.

Develop test print
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I reach at the end of my FMP, I’ve planned to print this in A1 thus the technician advice to print title it to see the overall size and look. If there are improvements needed. Thus had to redraw the coral reef, turtles and Strat to finishing.
However, the turtles features were prefect. Here is the full scale with the board and turtle.
Additionally, printed a sample of the front and questions cards. they came out successfully in both sided print,

Mechanics (leaflet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As part of the board game, there should always be a instruction leaflet, thus here is my design. This is my initial design from the pervious mechanics of the old board game.
When design this I found it hard where to start, but found inspiration on the ‘Polar& Gizzy’ leaflet.
Test print
Thus test printed. During the print, I’ve done many attempts as booklets kept printing wrongly when it both sided (upside down and upright). At the end, try many setting but still own work. On the other hand, the print is successful as the colours are vibrant and simple.

Card size
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After test print the boar game I notice that the size of the card must fit on the board, thus the card was too small due to miss measurement. All the more did a research of size on playing cards, applied this but did a lot of test print. Eventually achieved a perfect size.

During my designs, I forgot to think about the packaging of the board game thus looked at template maker. At the end, the box was mis matched.

Full board development s
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After having the turtles feature complete. Combining the board with it made gave a competitive finish however meanwhile did some changed as the feedback I had was to implement the card on the board. This effected the size but the mechanics is still very smilier.  Thus, exported to Photoshop to test print.

Building the board
Tumblr media
At this point, creating the features of the turtle is the right move. Since I’ve designed the turtles from the board, I transferred my skill thus having he small turtle next to it. At the end it looked very nice.

After designing the front card of the ‘rescue’ card, I move forward on the question and font. At the end used the ‘Happy Hint’ because it bold and it stands out.

Board development
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the card design I liked the ‘Your doodle’ font the rescue card so I wanted to use the same font on the board to connect it also added a staring and finishing line to guide where it end and starts. At the end I like how vibrant and fun the board is now.
