Another notable thing about Ganzack is how Zoro is animated. Very expressive and fluid. He even gets in a very genuine cuss to Nami in the film as she fake betrays them. This film only stars Luffy, Nami, Zoro and takes place after they had just left Buggy’s island meeting Nami for the first time so the trust and loyalty isn’t there yet.

I stumbled upon this old #onepiece OVA made in 1998 called: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack! It struck me because it was one of the rare times when the voice actors for Luffy and Zoro weren’t their final ones and One Piece was still very experimental in what the world and premise were going to be about. A simple tale, about 10 minutes longer than a single episode back when it was rare to be a Devil Fruit eater. What struck me the most about this OVA is the expressive and sometimes very realistic movements of the characters. The style is reminiscent but different than even the old anime and it will be some of my absolute favorite OP content. Would have preferred this animation over Toei’s in all honesty.
