OOC musing, a decade later
Me reblogging the TES OC post out of nowhere has gotten a few DMs from you guys--which first, is delightful, hello, I am so glad we got to hang out via Braith. But it's also got me remembering what was going on behind the scenes at the time I was writing this. Under the cut, since this is a story blog, but worth a read, maybe, because I'll be saying a lot of good things about you. :)
When I started this blog, I was overworked and underpaid. I was going through a health crisis, and dealing with sexual harassment from several people in a 90% male tech department. I have been writing for my entire life. Not having the time to dedicate to it was depressing, but gaming was also an escape, which I badly needed. And I didn't have time to do both due to working 80+ hour weeks. So, one day I just combined the two. Short posts were doable, and gave me a sense that I had completed a writing project every single day. Then, over the time her story unfolded, I got to chat with a bunch of amazing people. I also met two of my closest friends via Braith, and I'll always be grateful for that. So, tl;dr, thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing her scary book around. I still fondly remember everyone who read along with Braith, and if you're reading this, I hope you're well. <3

If there's one thing I love about the elder scrolls fanbase and series, it's the fact that you can make an oc that's almost overpowered and the equivalent of those gacha life hybrid ocs in 2018 and NOBODY will call it cringe or care. There is always going to be a relatively lore friendly explanation regardless of how insane your character may be, and I think that's beautiful.

((Hi! I hope it's okay to reblog this but I just wanted to say that I 100% recommend making a sideblog for your character. Braith remains one of my favorite projects I've ever done and I think everyone who is interested in doing something like this themselves should give it a shot. Much love to @verdantlyviolet for the compliment, and good luck to OP. Have fun!))
I’m tempted to start a new game in Skyrim or Oblivion.
Xbox 360 vanilla version - so no cool mods and no Inigo -, no main quest.
I’m going to roleplay my D&D halforc death paladin/grave cleric of Pelor and Wee Jas, so the run will be a pilgrimage (especially if I’m going to play the Knight of the Nine DLC), either expiatory or to become a paladin/cleric.
I’ll probably set some restrictions (I always end up with the archer thief if I don’t), so these are the options:
TO DO
warrior build, sword+shield/two-hand weapons and heavy armor
using restoration/mysticism/alteration spells
level up at 25 at least
join the Imperials in Skyrim
eat and drink
keep few items in the inventory (most of the carried weight will be the equipped items and healing potions)
destroy the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim
visit all the temples and altars dedicated to the Nine Divines
walk or travel on a wagon
help all the NPCs in need
if there’s a city or a village nearby, always sleep inside an inn, temple or guild; if there’s only an inn and the paladin doesn’t have enough money to sleep there, she won’t sleep at all (it builds discipline I guess lol)
NOT OK
fast travels or waiting
stealing and robberies
unecessary killings
pacts with daedric princes (exception made for Sheogorath in the Shivering Isles)
thieves’ guild and Sithis things
lycanthropy (cured as soon as the Companions’ questline is completed)
using black soul gems and doing necromancy
MAYBE-OK-MAYBE-NOT THINGS
punching annoying people
becoming a gladiator (it counts as training, right? right?) in Oblivion
obtaining the Umbra sword and not using it, unless necessary
making a pact with Malacath is possible, but only under specific circumstances (aka after seeing signs that I’ll decide before starting the game); starting Clavicus Vile’s quest is ok (obtain Umbra and run)
There’s probably more, but this is just a guideline.
If I’m going to do this I also want to make a sideblog - my paladin’s travel diary, with stories (maybe drawings? I can’t draw and they will be very bad) and everything she may find interesting during her pilgrimage. I wanted to do this years ago for my khajiit dragonborn, maybe I can start this project now.

Just a reminder to head over and start following my new blog. I’m getting art assets together and tweaking mods. It has been a painful day, but at least it no longer crashes. >>
Update!
Skyrim: Special Edition is coming out in four weeks, and so is Elene Madec: The Worst Vampire in Skyrim!
What a time to be alive.

Miss your posting. ♡
((Awww, and I miss posting! That’s why I’m doing the new story blog. If you’re interested, follow Elene, and then there won’t be posts to miss. :D))

Okay okay I'll upload the mod after I disable the dialog line "Good friends are hard to find and very important to me."

Looook who Elene found in her gaaaaame!
Yes indeedy, I have found a version of the Braithmod that isn’t broken! This means that
1) I can release her as a follower to anyone interested
2) I can continue work on the real mod with the quest script, etc, and release that down the line.
Now I just need to get Skyrim to stop crashing to desktop after five minutes of play.

I have to say I went through and read all of Braith's journal again and I'm still amazed at how compelling she is as a character. This was a fantastic project and I'm glad it's still around for rereading - and looking forward to Elene!
((Oh my goodness, you made my day. Thank you so much for not only re-reading the journal, but for messaging me and telling me this!
I’m still working out the specifics for handling Elene (she has a game-breaking Dawnguard bug), but once that gets sorted I’ll start putting things in queue.
Also I get to use my anon tag again! :D This is just the best ask ever.))

So, I just redesigned the blog for Elene Madec, the WORST VAMPIRE IN SKYRIM, which years ago I promised would be my follow-up story to Braith.
Pretty sure I’m actually going to do it, so hit the Follow button, my darlings, and come along for a quite different, but equally ridiculous ride.
Perks:
She is the Worst Vampire(tm)
She’s also married to Mjoll the Lioness, and Aerin actually ran off and left them alone (I suspect out of fear.)
The entire story is annotated by an overly academic Altmer who has to report his findings to a frustrated Archmage who really doesn’t want his Dragonborn predecessor to be a Worst Vampire(tm)
Will cover DLC that Braith did not. (And is why Braith didn’t cover it.)

it's been so many years lol, but i still don't understand why braith was upset when brynjolf ran his tongue over his front teeth?
((I don’t actually remember this specific post, but two equally likely reasons come to mind:
Bryn does that when he’s angry/annoyed, and she knows it, and the fact that he was upset got her riled up.
Braith was attempting to ignore the fact that she finds Bryn attractive, and then the tongue appeared, which would not have helped. So she gets angry.
I’d have to see the post for proper context! Feel free to message it to me privately, anon, and I’ll solve the mystery once and for all.
Also, I just had the best idea for an anon asks tag, and I really wish I’d thought of it a few years ago.))

I just wanted to tell you that your blog is the reason I decided to start one for my OC! <3 Love your writing, you are very talented!
((You are so sweet for saying so!
I am so thrilled that I still get messages from this account, you guys. And so thrilled Braith inspired other people to start journals and write.
She’s so angry people are having fun because of her.))

Don't talk to me or my husband ever again! What? No, we're not married. Why?

Fruit bat of the subfamily Pteropodinae
The megabats of the Pteropodinae include the largest bats in the world: the Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox (Acerodon jubatus) and the Large Flying Fox (Pteropus vampyrus), also known as the Malaysian Flying Fox.
The teeth of the family Pteropus, and especially of the subfamily Pteropodinae, are specially designed to rip open and grind up fruits, both juicy and fleshy. The large canines allow them to slash into thick skins, and the dextrous tongue and molars that are good for chewing (but not continued grinding) make an ideal dentition for most South Pacific fruits. Some fruit bats consume vegetation, pollen, or nectar, but Pteropodinae consumes almost exclusively fruit.
Fruit bats lack a tail and the ability to echolocate, like all Old-World bats. They have very good eyesight, and are thought to have split off from microbats (the New-World bats, including all of the carnivorous bats) during the Eocene epoch, around 45 million years ago.

((No one is safe))
((I discovered through accident that I can message as Braith through Tumblr’s messaging system.
Part of me now wants to have her randomly message people who like and follow her journal posts.
Part of me is convinced this is the worst idea I have ever had.))
