CHOOSING YOUR FREIGHT ELEVATOR
Choosing the right Freight Elevator for your building is a major decision. Our trusted team here at Bramalea Elevator Ltd. recognizes the challenges our clients face in choosing high performance elevators for their buildings. These systems must be built to the highest of manufacturing standards to withstand the tough requirements of everyday use. It’s why we offer design and manufacturing that ensures the ideal freight system is built for each property. We want you to feel prepared and informed, so here is what to consider before making your choice:
Cab Size
Freight comes in all different shapes and sizes. We offer elevator cabs with width, lengths and heights to suit standard size objects like pallets or automobiles, but we also offer a range of size options to fit just about anything.
Weight Capacity
It is important to determine the maximum weight of the freight you plan to move. We ensure a design which will carry the full load of any material or machinery between floors. We offer a range of options to suit any capacity.
Loading Requirements
How material is loaded onto an elevator is an important factor in its design. Will a fork truck load the elevator? Will it be loaded by hand? These are just some of the options. The loading classification must match the elevator’s intended use for it to operate safely. This in conjunction with capacity will determine an elevator’s Class of Loading. Let the experts at Bramalea help you to determine which classification your freight elevator will be rated for.
Rider on board
In many cases it is optimal for a freight handler to ride on the elevator with the load. This increases time efficiency which is important to any business. All of Bramalea’s lifts & elevators are designed to meet the standards of the Canadian Elevator Code CSA B44 which stipulates that any device traveling a height over 2 meters is required to be safe for riders. Rest assured that anyone on a Bramalea system will be safe and secure on board.
Long lasting Performance
Make sure your system is designed for lasting performance. Our design team makes durability a priority and ensures each system is built for seamless operation.
Service Demands
Choose a system that offers low maintenance performance around the clock. Our systems are built to the highest of performance standards.

This means that all our installations are inspected and certified by the local provincial/state authority. Our clients are guaranteed an accredited system, with minimal failure rates and safety issues over many years. Our design and manufacturing teams work together during the testing phases for our products to monitor component performance in a range of environmental conditions. This process helps to ensure that our systems surpass the expected performance standards and achieve reliable operation over decades.
Durable Elevator Performance
Since each of the elevators we install is built to the highest of performance standards, building owners can look forward to decades of optimal performance from their system. Material Lifts – Exceeding Safety Standards
At Bramalea Elevator, client safety is our top priority. Whether it’s a small Material Lift in a storage room, or an industrial-scale Freight Elevator, you need to know that you and your property are safe on any device we offer. That’s why it’s not enough to merely meet safety standards established by the elevator codes. We strive to exceed the codes standards, to go further and do everything possible to protect those who rely on our products. We want our name to be synonymous with quality and safety. Here’s how we go about reaching that goal.
Guaranteed Safety in our Material Lifts
The elevator safety codes of North America stipulate that a legal, registered elevating device is required to lift material between 2 or more fixed levels when travel distance is 78” (2,000 mm) or higher. Customers can rest assured that all Bramalea Elevator products meet all stipulations/regulations of the elevator code, but that’s just the beginning.
Every install we do is accompanied by a full third party inspection, performed by the local provincial/state safety authority. Our customer will receive an inspection certificate assigned by the province/state as proof that the lift is fully compliant to code.
In addition, we’re just as concerned about the materials and manpower used in your new material lift. All our products and equipment are certified as per the Canadian Standards Association, and our lift fabrication is handled according to Canadian Welding Bureau standards. Along with this, we hire only licensed professional engineers, and our technicians are licensed under the Elevating Devices Act of each jurisdiction. We are registered with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
Built- In Safety Features
The design of our Material Lifts as it relates to the codes, is an important balance between safety and affordability. Our design features include the following to satisfy both:
Manually operated entrances are required. Inside cab gates are not however, thus saving the customer money. However, since there are no car gates, the freight and handler are exposed to the inside face of the hoistway walls on the access (door) sides. To guarantee the utmost safety of everything on board, travel speed is restricted to 30 feet per minute (0.15 m/s) and the controls are restricted to continuous pressure push buttons. The slower speed and ability to stop the elevator by releasing the push button at any time, prevents anything or anyone from getting caught while the elevator is in motion. As an extra precaution, the inside face of the hoistway and all inside door faces are smooth and flush with absolutely no catch points.
Control stations are included at each hall landing as well as on elevator cab. This allows the option of controlling the cab from outside or inside the elevator.
Travel distance is restricted to 7.6M (some jurisdictions may vary). Because of the restricted height (compared to a freight or passenger elevator which is unlimited), the elevator is always relatively close to a landing. Therefore the following (often pricey) features are optional: emergency light and alarm bell, 2-way communication, fire service panel & fire recall, battery back power and emergency power for lowering.
Controller is relay logic based. Thus no expensive microprocessor based controls required.
The motor does not require a designated machine room. A simple lockable enclosure is provided. This saves on space and price.

Five Big Reasons to Consider an Automobile Elevator
Unavoidably, one of the biggest issues with storing vehicles – whether it’s only one or two, or dozens – is the matter of space. Given how much space even a few vehicles can take up, the problem of storing multiple vehicles can quickly become a complicated one. This problem is compounded further when discussing large tenant buildings or car dealerships, which might need extensive ramp setups to allow access to multiple levels.
However, there is a simple solution which can be implemented in anything from one-car home garages to the largest of condo buildings: An automobile elevator. These devices are affordable, reliable, and can greatly improve space efficiency in any vehicle-storage unit of any size.
Five Big Reasons to Consider an Automobile Elevator
Maximize Parking Revenue
Look at how much space a typical two-lane ramp takes up within a large parking facility. That’s space which could be used for storing cars and making more profit! An automobile elevator is only slightly larger than a single parking space, and can eliminate the need for ramps.
Increase Small Garage Capacity
Turn a one-car garage into a double-decker, safely and easily. Or, simply use it to increase the amount of storage space in your garage. When each elevator can hold up to 15,000 pounds (or more) comfortably, that means you can store almost anything on the elevator while still leaving room for a car below.
Implement Rooftop Parking
A single elevator can help change your flat roof into additional parking space. If the roof can hold the weight, the elevator can move the cars into place without needing extensive ramp work and other expensive renovations.
More Dealership Display Options
Want to make your vehicles more visible to more people? Move some onto a second or third level with automobile elevators. They’d still be accessible for sale, while being perfect display pieces that can be seen from far off.
Increase Building Value
A reliable automobile elevator can significantly increase the resale value of a condo or other property. They’re a major selling point, particularly to buyers looking to maximize profit.
