The silence is so loud. The kingdom's screaming rings through his mind like a broken record player that's stuck to repeat. The red skies of the night flood his oblivious set when he rests his eyes. The splattered blood on the blades of grass, that once shone a bright green... It flooded his mind like a nightmare. But this was no mere nightmare. It was a horror seeping through the cracks of reality.

Notes for my AU; Branch's Self Reflection

I don’t remember when I stopped checking. Maybe it was when grandma died, when I lost the last family I had. I don’t know. But for a long time after they had left, I checked the pod windows, day after day, awaiting their return. I hope to maybe see Bruce. Or maybe Clay. Hell, even John Dory. And I really hoped to see Floyd again. But after years of waiting, - hell, I forgot how many, - I realized. I had finally, finally realized. They weren’t coming back. Ever. And I just had to accept that fact. Yet I still cling to the small, childish hope, that one day they will return. That my brothers will return, safe and sound, and we’ll all be a big happy family again. This is all my fault, isn’t it? Just like every other horrible, shitty thing that’s happened in my life, it’s my fault. Maybe I just don’t deserve anyone. Maybe that’s the other reason I keep myself all pent up and alone in my bunker. I don’t want to get close to anyone and then fuck it all up, like I always manage to do with every person I once held so close and dear to me.
