   “I’m... surviving. Shirou’s letting me use my powers a little more often now, so... I’m not getting in trouble for being super cool at least.” Flying is just? more convenient? Shirou would understand if he flew more. Coward. “Still can’t find a job, though.”

Raccoon dogs are incredibly cute creatures in general but I think one of their best traits is how different they look with their winter coats vs their summer coats

They go from “yeah that looks like a canid alright”

To “not when I shift into maximum FLUFF”

 “oh!! yeah, of course!! come on, follow me!”

the dolphin girl jumped excitedly, hand reaching out to tug at michiru’s to tug her out of her room, down the hall & toward the pool area. it was an indoor pool—of course, they had an outdoor pool too, but—well, sometimes it was just an indoor kind of day! not to mention it was starting to get a little chilly outside with the turn of the season, but whatever! on the way, nina filled the air with chatter about everything & nothing, nerves of absolute elation keeping her jittery & bubbly.

vaguely in her head, she hoped she wasn’t annoying michiru.

 “oh! by the way, do you want any snacks? i could have some snacks sent down while we’re swimming! oh—& i have a bunch of floaties, beach balls, noodles & stuff too!” 

   The outdoor pool absolutely would have been a bad idea - Michiru didn’t exactly have a winter coat yet, so cold water and cold weather would have frozen her to the core...

She’s quick to catch herself as Nina pulls her down the hall, trying to keep up with both the dolphin and everything she’s talking about - she must be really excited for this pool party... ... And to be honest, so was Michiru. She had friends back home, sure, but the only one she really hung out with all that often was Nazuna, and... neither of them had pools.

“Hmmm- nnnnnormally I’d feel bad accepting snacks on top of everything else, but I guess your dad pays for all the food here, so... maybe a little snacking.” A heated pool, a free swimsuit, snacks, pool noodles, and a friend... what more could you ask for, really? Nothing. Michiru will implode if she has to ask for anything else. She’ll only be able to accept if it’s offered first, and even then...

“Noodles I will happily accept, though. Especially since I assume yours don’t have... bites taken out of them. Public pools are so weird.”

there was a VISITOR at the campsite. and what’s more, she was rumoured to be a tanuki. tom nook hadn’t seen another tanuki since - well, since he first found the twins and took them in. so call it silly, perhaps even childish - but he had to admit, he was somewhat EXCITED.

she arrived early one morning. nook gave her some time to set up (it wouldn’t do to rush in with a greeting TOO EARLY, let alone too late) before crossing the island to the campsite.

❝good afternoon!❞ nook cheerily greeted with a grin and wave, ❝welcome to the island! my name is tom nook, i help keep this place running. have you found everything to be acceptable so far?❞  

   God, she’d needed this. City life was hell, but deserted island life... that’s the stuff. Ocean as far as the eye can see, no giant buildings, no street thieves, no traffic, just... island. Granted, there were already a few people here, but... y’know, they were just doing their thing. Maybe Michiru would finally learn to fish here...

Of course, she could have gone with just about any deserted island package, but this one in particular had caught her eye - the guy that owned this particular island package was definitely a Tanuki.

She’d have time for all that later, though. For now, she’s gonna go for a quick fly, get some wind in her hair, and-

“Oh- uh, good afternoon!” She’ll fly later, then. It was a little surprising, having the owner of the island come to greet her personally... maybe he’d been excited to meet another Tanuki too? “S’nice to meet you too! I’m- Michiru.” A hand is held out to shake. “The island is pretty nice so far, yeah! Way more relaxing than home.”

nina is—more than happy to lend anything of hers to michiru, if it means keeping her happy & around. she watches michiru escape into the bathroom before moving to pick out her own bathing suit to match. usually she liked to keep to dresses when she goes to the pool, given her beastman form (bottoms were rather awkward with her tail & all…), but she felt like today would be a normal day!

when michiru stepped out, her attention snapped up & she smiled excitedly at her friend’s outfit, clapping her hands softly. 

“oh, michiru!!! you look adorable!!! you are absolutely keeping that, no ifs, &s or buts!”

   “Aheh, you think? I don’t normally wear this sorta thing much, so...” The kindness Michiru had been shown by so many of the beastmen here always seemed to surprise her- though, that was probably because of all the unkind folk that seemed to seriously outweigh everyone else.

Some people here could be serious jerks.

But here, it was just her, and Nina. If nothing ended up happening, it’d be nice! Just two girls going swimming, with no wacky hijinks, or... near death encounters. Michiru seriously needs a break.

“Should we- get to the pool, then? I don’t actually know where it is, so I’ll just follow your lead.“ And tour more of the... really expensive looking rooms. Getting to hang out here almost made Michiru feel like royalty...

“When you live for so long some days just blend together, you know?” He turned to her, giving her a smile. He cared for her and helped her every step of the way. He couldn’t thank her enough for the few times she has saved him.

“You being alive is enough for me.” He said looking back to Rose who was now gone!

   “I’m not a fossil yet, so... I don’t know? I’m only eighteen.” She’s still so young... the horror of being old is something she isn’t all that worried about, yet. Right now her biggest worry is keeping her fur clean, cause... she can’t. turn back that often.

It’s hell.

“And being alive is feeling less and less like a gift the more crazy things that happen these days...” Like... Rose vanishing? That’s. maybe not a cause for concern. Who knows anymore?

nina hummed, turning to the pile of clothes on the counter, shifting them around in search for anything like michiru asked. her chest buzzed with excitement—visible with how her face was so bright, eyes dazzling with the desire to please michiru. already she was going over the activities they would be playing while at the pool—like volleyball! maybe they could play some fetch games with the little missile-looking nerf toys daddy got her?

 “found it!”

she declared, pulling out a cute flower-patterned yellow-&-orange one-piece still on the hanger. the dolphin beastman looked to michiru with round eyes full of pride & anticipation.

 “how’s this look? you can use my bathroom to change! or the closet, & i’ll just leave. whichever you want!”

   It was kinda weird that her dad bought her so many things, if she didn’t really use any of them... She’d figured a girl as cool and pretty as Nina would have loads of friends round, too, but... her dad is kind of a gang leader, and her bodyguard is super protective when he’s... around.

Michiru is very glad she won’t have to throw hands with that jerk.

“Oh, that’s great, thank you!!” It was cute, in Michiru’s color, and it wasn’t a two piece. Michiru always hated wearing bikinis... “I’ll just change in the bathroom, I don’t wanna make you leave your room for me. I’m already taking a swimsuit...”

Stepping over, she takes the swimsuit, and quickly disappears into the bathroom, reappearing after a short moment with her folded clothes under her arm, free hand adjusting one of her shoulder straps.

“So- how do I look?”
