Ghost (1990) - Jerry Zucker
the 1990 American film has been one of my favourite films. The reason being of the hybrid genre of romance, thriller and supernatural makes me as an audience feel tension throughout the film and made me laugh but most important of all the feeling of relief towards the end of the film and that is what I feel like that appeals to a wide range of audience.Plot of the film is a romantic couple moving into a new apartment together and the protagonist (a banker) see’s he has excessive money in his accounts and so he tells hi co-worker and “so called” best friend. But then, he betrays him by hiring a hitman and assassinating him.throughout the film his ghost haunts his friend and the hitman until his girlfriend can live is peace. I believe the main ideas and themes of the film is that In society, whether we have a lot of money or anything worth a lot we shouldn’t share instantly with anyone and shouldn’t trust a lot of people.I feel like this fits into my project quiet well as it has some aspects of supernatural which fit in realistically into our world with religious themes of heaven and hell.

Tuesday
Being invited to an interview with UAL Wimbledon college of arts : (BA Hons) Production of Screen Arts I felt like this course is one of my favourites of being picked due to the aspect of skill making included in the course from 3D product making, Digital skills such as Blendr and many more. The course Aims to teach us all or most aspects of production design in a film / tv studio. When firstly arriving I had a chat with 2 of the student ambassadors and other students about how the student life is and what the university has to offer to us as students. Next we was escorted into the interview room with a task to make a mask to keep our selves creative whilst waiting to be called to talk to the course leaders. The day ended leaving with an offer which I’m proud and over the moon with.

Identity - K J Adames
youtube
K J Adames made a film called Identity to send a message to an audience that we metaphysically wear a mask to hide our selves just to impress for conform others around us ( friend and peers).Throughout the film the colour pallet of the film seem to be more dull and distressed until the protagonist reveals her true self and walks through the campus with everyones shocked face.I think the message J K is trying to say is that a-lot comes off your chest and you will more happier to show your true self and ‘IDENTITY’.One of the scenes i really like is when a girl walks from one group of friends to another as she takes of her mask but reveals another mask .This may be inputed in the film to highlight the ideology of two faced people.I feel like this relates to memorabilia because it leaves a note that it can be a positive thing to leave things behind and a memory and leave traces of identity.

Jane and Louise Wilson : The Toxic Camera (2012)
After Speaking to Ian ,he gave me pointers of what ‘What remains’ meant to me personally and some of the things that came up was derelict places and spoke about Andrew Moore’s work .Ian then told me about Chenoybl which was a nuclear power plant disaster and left the city so toxic that people left and mutations to life kicked in.
Jane and Louise are sibling artist from the UK who created a film in Chernobyl shortly after the incident happened to capture the details and visuals of Chernobyl but is also shown in a documentary type way because he had to be toured/escorted around Chernobyl because of the radioactivity can be extremely high and dangerous for them to explore .This created an appeal to the audience to show how bad the disaster is.This links into the project as it highlights ‘what remains’ in areas around the world.

What Remains - Dystopia Concept - Fallout 4

Fallout seriesNot so relating to Film and Television but links very well in with What Remains and Traces of Identity.Created by Interplay Entertainment , Fallout 4 is one of the fallout games played and it allows gamers experience the troubles we may fall into in the future after a nuclear holocaust. The game is set in the 22nd/23rd Centuries with Post 1950s American art and styles. The game environment represents the dystopia and “what remains” really well as the composition of the games include derelict locations similar to the us such as gas stations and abandoned factories.

Carlos Amorales - Amsterdam Study Trip

The trip to Amsterdam was amazing i loved the museums and architecture the Netherlands had to offer. When visiting the Stedlijk museum at the museumplein One of the artists work that caught my eye the most was Carlos Amorales’ Exhibitions. One of the ones i was really interested in was his Film screening of ‘The Eye-me-not’ in a dark and ambient room walls filled with paper or card random cutouts full of colour to convey his meaning of not expression to show left after the incident or even with the Europeans and natives linking in with his film. When watching the film, it was very touching as it was told through a flash back method to create empathy for the Natives.

Andrew Moore
Moore is a photographer ,grew up in Connecticut. His work is know from his photos of urban changing major cities such as New York,Detroit,Cuba and Russia. A majority of Andrew Moores photographs and work i really get inspired by as it links into our project ‘what remains’ because it highlights a-lot of derelict objects and places what changes and literally what remains in major cities a they ‘rapidly change’.
My favourite piece from the photos above is ‘Beneath the Brooklyn Bridge’ because when first looking at it its an establishing shot of new york city but from a different perspective but in the background/sky you can still see light but the rest ’beneath the Brooklyn bridge there is still construction trucks and debris remaining despite the blue pretty city and highlights what most people can not see when moving through the city.

Shornemead Fort

Shornemead Fort is a local fort which is no longer in use and mostly demolished.I have not been there recently but the last time i visited most of the upper casemates still standing but is very vandalised. Also on my last visit i went into the underground tunnels where they kept all the magazines .some of the difficulties is that some of the pathways are collapsed and couldn't visit all of the rooms underground and some of the rooms were flooded making it hard to get into and explore all the rooms.I think that this i s a great location to capture some footage for the What Remains Film show convey abandonment and the left over of the past whilst taking in consideration that it is a strong standing structure that has been through both world wars.

Gunkajima (Hashima island)
Lying in southern Japan there is an abandoned island with land covering 16 acres .It is well known for the coal mining which was established i 1887 during the industrialisation era for japan. Then in 1974, resources started to run out ,the mines started to close therefore residents left the island

An aspect of this island is that the structures of the buildings are really durable and still standing despite they have been built for a long time ,also i really like how nature has grown all the way to the roof of the buildings which shows the only colour and life left on the island
