A deeper look into the physical worlds of Disney (among other) parks and sometimes the celluloid worlds of Disney animation. Currently in a writing slump but hoping to find my way to Inspiration Falls soon.

you know, there’s been a lot of controversy around the patf retheming (or so i would assume, i haven’t frequented the ice-may at-chay forums in years but i’m sure there’s a lot of whining about it).
while i’m on board for the retheming --
on second thought --
i’ll only sign off if we can get an equally ridiculous promotional video.
splash mountain rap 2.0 babyyy.
reblog if you know it is a thrill when you go downhill, when you’re riding down a mountain on your own free will

I’m only going to say this once. Walt Disney World absolutely should not be reopening.
Announced today, Hong Kong Disneyland is shutting down per government order after being open just under a month due to rising from 0 new cases to 38 yesterday, in Hong Kong alone. This is fully understandable and a good example of abundance of caution taking precedence over a entertainment venue where employees and guests would be at risk.
Right now, Florida has at least 12,000 new cases. Since yesterday. Numbers are hotly contested between the state’s sources and other tallies, but it is very clear, it is not a ‘low’ number like 38 in Hong Kong in any way. Opening the theme parks is absurdly irresponsible and stupid. If any individual following this blog thinks things are safe enough or that Disney should just throw open the doors, that such an action is anything but irresponsible greed and rushing through the process being given priority over very clear threat to public and employee health, go ahead and unfollow me right now.
I love Disney World. I love Disneyland, and I would love to be able to go back and visit if safe to do so. But opening the parks right now, or even likely a month from now, is a shitty hack move that may well lead to people dying unnecessarily and the Walt Disney company is wrong to do so. It makes me outright angry, in fact. They really should know better. I expect fully Universal will be announcing a shut down in Florida soon, as they have been open longer, and if they don’t, they are making a grave mistake.

petition for a new band of imagineers comprised solely of disabled lesbians of color.
I’ve always preferred to err on the side of preserving older attractions (as opposed to gutting them in favor of popular contemporary movies), but after ten minutes on the Micechat forums seeing people react to the Splash Mountain announcement…
Nope. Knock it all down and start over, and only rebuild what gets approved unanimously by a panel of disabled lesbians of color.

DISNEY PARKS: Welcome! You’re gonna love working for us!
DISNEY PARKS: There are four rules you’ll have to remember when you work here
DISNEY PARKS: The first rule – the most important rule – is to keep everyone as safe as possible
DISNEY PARKS: If you ever have to choose between keeping someone safe & being nice to them, keep them safe
DISNEY PARKS: If you can either keep them safe or help them feel transported into a magical world, you should keep them safe
DISNEY PARKS: Even if it causes a thirty-hour wait, you should keep. Them. Safe.
PANDEMIC: (~450,000 dead & counting)
DISNEY PARKS: Okay everyone! Back to work!

Annnndddd that’s today’s tea. 🐸There will be blood on Disney’s hands, and their Cast Members, who create Disney’s massive fortune, are most at risk.
Theme parks are not an essential business
Also, Disney & Comcast & Seaworld are very rich companies who can survive a few months without selling any churros
In fact, these companies are rich enough to pay their (already underpaid) employees throughout the entirety of the pandemic
But they would rather endanger their staff & their customers & the rest of Central Florida than lose any profit
Never forget how willing they were to sacrifice us
