mika’s dark eyes flicked upwards and locked on the older woman. her mother. or at least, that was what carol had become to her before mika had been killed by her own sister. she felt no blame towards carol for what had happened, she knew the woman loved her. she knew she would’ve protected her. “c-carol?” she whispered.

carol stared at the girl in front of her – the girl she hadn’t been able to save. she frowned as all the pain and regret she had pushed away for the last few years came rushing back to her all at once. “mika…” she began, her voice slightly shakey. “are you okay?” at this point, carol was well aware that some people came back after being killed as something other than walkers. she was glad mika was one of them; the young girl deserved a chance at life. “i’m so sorry, mika.”

mika jerked awake, her dark eyes spilling over with tears. she had been alive for some time now, back from the dead, but nothing had ever quite been as hard in her life as sleeping was now. the memories of her sister, looming over with her a knife. the realisation that she was about to die. that nothing could take that back. her hands rested on her stomach. she was alive and safe, but the scarring wasn’t gone. she wasn’t sure it ever would be. mentally or physically.

carol gripped her gun, her footsteps light as she walked through the woods. it had been awhile since she had been able to enjoy this level of freedom; they had been stuck in the sanctuary for so long, being outside again felt like heaven. stopping abruptly, carol listened to the woods around her, positive she had heard someone lurking nearby. quietly, she approached the figure, her chest tightening at the head of blonde hair. it couldn’t be – there was no way. “mika?”

he nodded slowly, “i’m sorry, i’m not trying to be snippy, it’s just… hard,” he said, shrugging his shoudlers. “i’m still getting used to being… the way i am.”

“don’t worry about it,” maia shrugged, offering him a small smile. “you’re kind of allowed to be an asshole right now. i know i would be.”

laney nodded slowly, looking up at him, “i’m going to try not to get stabbed again.” she agreed with a quiet nod, “i’m not overly enjoying it to be honest with you…”

“we have some pain killers, i think,” isaac said, looking through the first aid kit and pulling out some tylenol. he offered the bottle to laney. “yeah, i don’t blame you. it looks like it fucking hurts.”

“tired, bloody and pretty good,” he said with a shrug of her shoulders and a small laugh.

jaime’s arms wrapped tightly around ollie, his eyes squeezed shut. he swallowed hard, tears welling in his eyes, despite his efforts to the contrary. “don’t be sorry,” he whispered, “i’m just glad you’re alive,” he whispered. it was more complicated than that and they both knew it, but that much was true.

oliver pushed himself closer to jaime, burying his head in the other’s shoulder. it was hard seeing jaime with tears in his eyes – oliver wasn’t sure he ever had before. it made the pain in oliver’s chest tighten, knowing there wasn’t anything he could do to fix things for jaime. “i’m glad you’re alive too,” he replied, rubbing jaime’s back. “i can’t believe you’re here. it feels like any second i’m going to wake up.”

“a - a date?” maggie repeated, a brow raised as she looked to her husband, confused and curious. she wasn’t opposed, but she couldn’t help but worry about their son. it was worry that came out of nowhere, as she knew the baby would be fine with her sister and father. “you’re sure? what.. what’re we gonna do?”

“yeah, a date,” glenn confirmed with a small smile. he had been back for a while now, but it still felt like he hadn’t had much alone time with maggie. first had been the earthquake, then the sanctuary and finally hershel’s birth – there just hadn’t been much time for the couple to hang out with just one another. at maggie’s question, glenn gave a small shrug. he hadn’t quite thought that far ahead. “go for a walk by the pond or the woods? whatever you want, maggie.”

looking at the male as he had crashed into the tree branch. a smirk braced it’s way across her face. she wanted to snicker, grabbing her large hunting knife. she stalked over stabbing the walker, ending it’s life. looking at the man who was coughing from possibly having the wind knocked out of him. “you okay?” she spoke up. 

as soon as he saw the woman with the knife, he squeezed his eyes shut, assuming she would stab him. he didn’t know her or what she was capable of and honestly, it was a miracle he had made it this long. when the blade never made contact with him, oliver slowly opened his eyes to see her stabbing the biter instead. “woah,” he coughed, sitting up and staring at her. “uh…yeah. just winded,” he replied, reaching for his inhaler crammed in his pocket. taking a quick puff, he looked back at her. “um, thanks. for that,” ollie gestured to the dead biter.

“c’mon, kid,” raven smiled as she put her arm around lacy’s shoulders. she lead her upstairs, and once they got up to the roof, raven moved to sit down on one of the various crates on the roof.

lacy allowed raven to lead her up to the roof. after being alone for the majority of the apocalypse, lacy still wasn’t used to being cared for by someone else. it was a little scary honestly, but she trusted the woman. “it’s weird…it’s so quiet now.”

“i appreciate that, but you don’t need to protect me, maia. i promise.” he knew his sister was worried about him and in truth, she was right to be, but it just reminded jaime of how broken he had become since losing his twin.

“i’m not doing it because i don’t think you can fight your own battles,” maia replied slowly, looking over at him. “i know you can. i just don’t want those assholes to get away with it.” she definitely knew her brother could take care of himself, she just wished he didn’t have to.

laney was filled with guilt as she watched isaac’s face twist in discomfort and as she watched him move away to vomit. her body was still filled with pain, but she pulled herself up and pulled her shirt back on. “thank you,” she whispered slowly, careful not to lean on her arm too much. “don’t be sorry, please.”

isaac nodded weakly, standing up and walking back over to laney. “i…i would say anytime, but please don’t fucking get stabbed again,” he replied, wiping her blood off on his jeans. they would need new clothes soon, it seemed. “what happened?”

jaime wrapped his arms back around ollie. he wondered, idly, what they were. they’d never broken up, but they’d been separated for so long. he didn’t want to get his hopes up that ollie would still feel the same way about him. “it was henry.” he whispered, his voice thick. “henry bit me…” he whispered. “i was ready… i was ready to die there. my father dragged me away. he cut my arm off… i was going to die with my brother.” he didn’t mean to say all of that, but he couldn’t stop himself.

ollie tightened his grip as soon as jaime hugged him back. he had always hoped they would find their way back to each other, but as more time went by and the further they all traveled from california, the less likely it had seemed. but here jaime was – not okay, but alive. that was what mattered most to oliver. “jay…” he pulled back just enough to look at jaime, tears in his eyes at the confession. “jaime, i’m so sorry. i can’t even begin to imagine.” ollie shook his head. he didn’t have a twin; he couldn’t imagine the pain of not only losing someone that close to you, but having them be the one to almost kill you too. “i’m glad you didn’t die. god, i’m so sorry.”
