Thar RWD Worth The Money ?
Mahindra Thar is one of the most iconic SUVs of all time, this is because of its presence of more than two decades. The Thar has never lost out its charm from off-road enthusiasts. Mahindra introduced its first-gen thar in 2010 and from then to now it has been the favrourite SUV of every off-road enthusiasts. In 2020 Mahindra has introduced the second-gen Thar which not only pulls the heart of 4x4 lovers but also those who use enthuse a daily commuting SUV.
But does the Newly launched Thar RWD really value for money ? Here are five reasons that support your decision to buy a Thar RWD, and three reasons why you shouldn’t.
Five reasons why you should buy the Thar RWD
New powertrain
Both the Thar 4WD and 2WD offers 2.0-liter petrol turbo engine, which generates 150 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. But what makes the deal a little sweeter is the brand-new 1.5-liter diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Being a 1.5-litre engine, it is also more fuel-efficient than the 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine offered with the Thar 4WD. This engine has 116 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.
Off-road capability
At first glance, it could appear that the Thar RWD is less capable than its 4WD when it comes to off-roading. But the new Mahindra Thar has an electric brake locking differential (available with the diesel engine), which is quite useful in off-road circumstances. In addition, both versions of the Thar come with standard features such a washable floor with drain plugs, front and rear welded tow hooks, and tow hitch protection.
Spacious and accessible interior
Since the Thar RWD lacks a low-range transfer case, a little storage area has become available underneath the gear lever case. a location where you can store your phone, keys, or stray change. This is a little adjustment, but it has quite a practical aspect to it.
Exterior appeal
The Thar RWD is only offered with a hard top, unlike the Thar 4WD. Blazing Bronze and Everest White are two other colour choices that are added along with it. Increasing the number of aesthetic alternatives while reducing confusion around body style possibilities (open-top or hard-top).
And of course the affordable price tag
Last but not least, it is more inexpensive than the base Thar 4WD thanks to its price tag of Rs 9.99 lakh. It should be noted, however, this price is only available to the first 1000 buyers and is simply an introduction. Therefore, prices for the Thar RWD will increase whenever Mahindra reaches the maximum. Therefore, feel free to purchase the Thar at this time. Avoid stopping yourself.
Three reasons to skip Thar RWD
Maruti Suzuki unveiled Jimny
Yes, the long-awaited five-door Jimny has finally been launched for the Indian market. It will come standard with Suzuki's AllGrip all-wheel-drive technology. It may appear to be a little SUV when compared to the Thar. But make no mistake, this compact SUV is more than capable of handling any terrain.
Limitations of Thar
The disadvantages of the Thar's standard four-wheel drive will also apply to the RWD version. Due to the 2-door design of the SUV, access to the second row is both constrained and hindered. The answer to this issue is presented next, though.
Mahindra to launch 5-door Thar soon
By 2024, Mahindra plans to introduce the five-door Thar. Not only will the SUV grow longer with the addition of more doors, but the interior will also become roomier. As a result, it will be more useful and adaptable than the existing Thar crop.
