{My brows furrowed and amusement creased my lips as I heard Luke's threat about turning off the radio. That voice inside my head told me to keep my mouth shut. That I had poked the bear enough for one car ride, but I justified with that "devil on my shoulder," so to speak that there was no fun in that. Getting a rise out of Luke was too fun to ever pass up} You do know that I am intelligent enough of a woman that if you turn the radio off, I can just push the button to turn it back on again, right? {Not that I would do that, but again, it was fun to poke the bear. Riled up Luke never failed to bring me amusement. I didn't say anymore after that. Instead Rory and I just amused ourselves and passed the time of the drive singing along to the songs on the radio. Okay, so it wasn't a perfect ride home, especially since I think Luke was on the verge of ringing my neck by this point, but given the circumstances of the day and evening, it could be worse} Actually, yes, I have rather enjoyed the games. I always was a "game" aficionado. {I grinned playfully as I teased Luke in response. By now the truck back to a stop; prompting us to exit the vehicle. Once I did, I made sure to help Rory from the truck to the front door. After her accident and injuries, I wasn't taking any chances} Let's get you situated on the sofa first and then we'll come to a decision about food and the movie of the night. {I explained as I unlocked the front door and then helped Rory to the sofa. Once she was safety seated and resting, I removed my coat and put my purse down} You know, kid, I bet if you bat those cute little lashes of yours and ask Luke nicely, he'll head back to the diner to make you a cheeseburger and fries, or pretty much anything you might want. {I said with a grin. Knowing Luke could hear me loud and clear currently. Of course I was just teasing... Well, mostly teasing, I should say because after all Luke did for us today and tonight, I wouldn't expect him to go back to the diner and cook too. Nah, we could always order pizza or tacos, or maybe both. It was whatever Rory wanted and I'd make it happen}

Care; the dependable guy; it was the name Luke had earned when it came to Lorelai. For years he had showed his frustration when it came to her tenacity to break his own rules, But when push came to shove he showed up for her, for Rory. He watched her daughter grow up through the years, he thought of Rory as his own sometimes; especially when he was the one to make her chicken noddle soup when she was sick, or when he was the one to take care of her when she had chicken poxs, he had only wanted to led a helping hand to the brunette. She was a single mother; she had to work, so I ordered to help during the night since I had staff that could run the diner for me. Tonight was one of those cases; I had a diner, I had dropped everything for Lorelai. I saw the way she was shook, I saw her palms shaking, there was no way in hell I was letting her risk her life attempting to get to the hospital on her own.
I couldn’t bare the thought of getting a call had I let her. I was happy I stuck to my guns and helped Lorelai. Rory was her everything. The devotion she had for Rory; it was the kind of unconditional love everyone asks for. Standing in the hospital, I felt the nerves she was radiating off; I felt the way she was pacing against the floors, I swore you could feel it shake.
I meant it when I said I wasn’t going anywhere; a hint of a smile that pulled at the corners of my lips. I was the guy that stayed; I cared about her; in more ways than I cared to admit. But I did; I couldn’t bare to see her alone or sad especially like a time like this. I was a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold. If she desired to; and let’s just say that offer doesn’t always come. Hearing her gratefulness; I had offered a single nod of my head with a smile. A real one; not the half smile that felt forced.
“ Lorelai, Caesar can manage for tonight and tomorrow morning if I need him to, I own the diner but I can step out if needed. You want me here so I’m staying.” It was a declaration; no butts about it; Luke wasn’t going to accept the female taking a cab home; especially if she was feeling destressed; or needed a hand. Once we entered the empty room; I had mumbled a “ Thank you” To the doctor before my attention was drawn down to the brunette; she did sit down; what a relief to me. Because she definitely was aiming to sport a hole into the floor; seeing as she patted the open chair for me. I had lowered myself down into the chair besides her.
“ She’ll be fine, she’s a tough one like you.” A reassurance, a way of saying Lorelai did right by Rory; she was a fighter; more strength than any kid I knew. Extending my arm out; I had handed a gentle hand on her knee; a way of saying I was here as long as she needed me to be.

My listening skills? Oh, no, you're mistaken, Luke. My listening skills work perfectly. Problem is, I have a heavy dose of selective hearing and stubbornness tangled up into one, so although I hear the directions and orders perfectly, I choose which to follow and which to ignore. {I flashed Luke a playful grin. Hoping my ridiculous cute and charming grin would win him over here and now. Sure, I knew that wasn't likely given how gruff and tough Luke's mood seemed to be today, but hey, no harm in trying. I silently justified as I continued to sing along with the song playing. I flashed Rory a proud smile when I heard her join in with the impromptu karaoke} That's my girl! {I paused in my own bout of singing to cheer Rory on as I joined her in bolting out the next portion of the chorus that rang out in Luke's truck. Truthfully though, I had a feeling if Rory wasn't injured and just released from the hospital, that he'd pull the truck over and drop me off right here on the side of the road and tell me to walk the remainder of the way. Good thing Luke had a soft spot for Rory because I definitely wasn't wearing the right shoes to walk from here to Stars Hollow}

{I flashed Rory a grin and then shot one over to Luke when he finally conceded and let me change the radio station} A wise choice, Mr. Danes. Otherwise I was going to make this impromptu karaoke night here in your truck, and create my own music as a result. Oh, and trust me when I say, I rock a mean version of, "Life Is A Highway." {I aired out with a proud grin. Of course I couldn't promise not to sing along with whatever song was playing. I mean, that was all part of the appeal to playing music while taking a ride. They go hand in hand with one another you could say. A fact that Luke seemed to be missing with his instructions for me not to sing} I agree to the no country rule. You won't ever catch me playing country music, /but/ I'll have you know, I have a great singing voice. You'll see what I mean... {I said with a lingering grin as I played with the tune button as I fished around for the perfect song. Let's just say several station swaps later, I finally found a good one, and right on cue, I started singing along to the song... Knowing that deep down, this was Luke's and my thing. We loved getting under each other's skin. If we didn't, and we weren't bickering, I'd honestly worry that something was wrong with us}

What? I can't touch your radio? {I gave Luke a slightly amused smirk; all the while my brows furrowing a bit in surprise. At this moment, I had no idea if he was joking or not. Odd since I could usually read Luke pretty well, but at the moment, it was a flip a coin kind of moment while I tried to feel him out on this one} What's the matter, Luke...? Are you afraid you might actually like the music selection that I choose? {I playfully aired back in response. Sure, I still had no idea just how serious he was here and now about his radio, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't find a reason to challenge Luke, or better yet, do nearly anything and everything in order to get a rise out of Luke. What can I say, getting a rise out of him never failed to amuse me and make for some fine, free entertainment. I'm telling you, the only thing that would be missing is the popcorn} So, where are we at on the radio? You gonna let me search for a decent song to entertain us during the drive back home, or do I need to keep trying to take matters into my own hands and do it without consent? {Batting my lashes playfully as an amused grin pulled at the corners of my lips}

Not cutting it? {I gasped for dramatic effect} What do you mean my jokes aren't cutting it? And lame? Well now, that's just offensive... Is that your goal during this close encountered ride home, Luke? Are you trying to offend me, spark my insecurities, and hurt my feelings simultaneously? {I asked even though I wasn't at all offended nor was I hurt by his comment. Just the opposite, actually. As strange as it sounds, if Luke wasn't giving me a hard time, I'd be bummed out. This was like our thing... Bantering back and forth and teasing each other. If that ended, I'd be worried there was strife between him and I. A thought I'd keep to myself while an amused grin rested contentedly across my lips. I know this ride home wasn't ideal, but hey, I was relieved that this was the case. Again, I know that thought would seem odd if I actually said the words aloud, but the way I saw it, it could be worse... Rory could still be in that hospital bed. Her condition and injuries could have been worse than they actually are, but fortunately, a few healable injuries and casts aside, Rory was going to be fine. A few weeks of rest and recovery and she'd be herself again, so yeah, I knew it wasn't the comfiest ride home since we were practically sitting on each other's laps, but I didn't care because it meant we were all together} This is fun... The only thing this ride is missing is music and impromptu karaoke from Rory and I. {I further added in teasing. Knowing this would probably result in a groan, snarky reply, or less than amused look from Luke... possibly all three, but I didn't mind in the least}

{Amusement creased my lips as we got situated in Luke's tiny truck. A fact that was made obvious by Luke's uncomfortable expression when he joined us} Oh yeah... Snug as a bug in a rug, right, kid? {I said in response as I flashed Rory a grin} "Oh yeah. Perfectly cozy. Who needs a cast when the three of us are keeping all of my bones and body parts perfectly meshed together." {Rory joked in reply. Yep, that's my kid. Humor straight after my own heart. This girl... Always making her mommy so proud. I thought to myself as I flashed Rory a proud grin} Scary, isn't it, Luke? Just how alike Rory and I are... {Practically beaming with pride at this point. I knew Luke might be grumbly and grumpy at times, but when it came to Rory and I, he had a soft spot for us. Grant it, that didn't mean I didn't drive him crazy more often that not, of course, but at the end of the day, he's the guy I knew would always be there for us... No matter what. Luke was one of the good ones. A fact that I'd never let myself overlook or forget. I silently considered as the engine roared to life and we prepared for the uncomfortably cozy ride back to Stars Hollow}

{I could see I was getting on both Rory and Luke's nerves, and I've gotta say, I was enjoying every second of it. One could say that I lived for the annoyance and eye rolls that I pushed people to, on a daily basis. I thought with lingering amusement on my lips as we moved at Rory's pace toward the exit} We'll all get to cuddle together. That sounds like a rush like no other. {I joked in response to Luke's comment about it being cramped in his truck. Eh, it wouldn't be ideal, but we'd make due. I knew Luke though, he'd do everything in his power to make sure we were all comfortable on the drive back to Stars Hollow; Rory especially. Speaking of Rory, I gave her back a gentle and comforting rub as we made our way outside to where Luke's truck was parking and waiting for us. Pausing as I let Luke figure out the tool situation and get the cab of the truck to his liking before we'd help Rory get inside the truck safely} Worse comes to worse, I can always sit in the back. I'll try not to make a scene or do anything to get us pulled over though. Don't worry. {I added jokingly. Honestly, I had no plans of sitting in the back of the truck, or was I necessarily in the mood for jokes, but I was emotionally drained at this point over Rory's accident and injuries, so I was just trying to do what I could to keep the mood light and airy. Otherwise I'd probably either snap or break down in tears at any moment. It's not easy for a parent to see their child hurt. That right there was the worst and scariest phone call of my life, so let's just say, I was simply doing everything I could to keep it together now... For everyone's sakes}

Okay. We shouldn't be long. {I assured Luke with a smile as I waited for the hospital room door to close before I opted to help Rory to change} Okay, kid, turns out your outfit isn't fit to wear after your accident, so I grabbed this one for you from the hospital. {Holding up the t-shirt and sweatpants with the hospital logo on them so Rory could see what she would be going home in} We can call them a souvenir from your time here at this hospital. {I aired out jokingly even though I was in no mood or position to joke about any part of this experience. No, I was only saying it now as a means of trying to keep the tone and conversation light for Rory's sake} Need me to help you change...? {I offered. Already know Rory's look of, "Are you kidding me right now" would followed before a firm "No" clarified her position on my offer} "No way. Thanks though." {Rory said as expected. Even giving me the predicted "are you kidding me" look for added affect. I loved how well we knew each other} Okay, I'll be close if you need me. {I promised as I remained near her hospital bed in case she needed my help while Rory changed out of the hospital gown and then into the clothes I purchased for her. She did request my help when it came to getting the pants over her her busted up since they got stuck on the bulky boot covering her injury. Once she finished, I retrieved her crutches for her and placed them in front of her, so she could get adjusted on them. While she got comfortable on them, I gathered up our things from the room, before opening the hospital door so Rory could exit first} Look at her... First time on crutches, and she's a champ. That's my girl. Always making mommy so proud. {I said in a playful, humored tone as we rejoined Luke. Knowing Rory would roll her eyes at my poor attempt to make her laugh} We're so proud of you, Rory. Aren't we, Luke? {Keeping my teasing tone as I spoke. Again, I was on the verge of a good cry right now seeing my baby like this, but I was just trying to keep the mood light and airy right now for Rory's sake}

{I could see the look of frustration on the faces of all of the nurses as I left Rory's hospital room and approached the nurse's station desk} "Yes, Ms. Gilmore... How can we help you?" {One nurse asked dryly. I didn't appreciate her tone, or the fact that it looked like she was about to roll her eyes at me. Oh, I dare her to do it. Double dare her because it's the last eye roll she'd ever make. I thought to myself with a mirrored look as I responded} I am wanting to discharge my daughter Rory, so I can get her home to rest in the comfort of her own bed. I can tell you don't want to deal with me anymore than I want to deal with you, so the way I see it, we could do each other a favor and you could put a rush on those discharge papers. {I said flatly to the nurse before quickly adding} The way I see it, the sooner I sign the papers, the sooner I will be out of your hair and on my way back to Stars Hollow. {I could see the nurse still didn't want to help me, but judging by her facial expression, she was actually seeing where I was coming from with my suggestion and remark} "Wait here, Ms. Gilmore, and I will print the papers out for you to sign." {The nurse explained as she fiddled with the computer in front of her and a moment or so later, I could hear the printer coming to life. The nurse practically slammed the discharge papers and a pen in front of me then point to where I needed to sign. I signed each of the places she pointed to then she handed me a copy of the discharge papers for my record} Thanks... Such a pleasure. {I said sarcastically as I rolled my eyes and then returned to Rory's hospital room} Okay, kid, you're officially sprung from the hospital. We can get out of here whenever you're changed and ready to go. {I said with a smile. Figuring Luke would step out for this part since Rory was going to change out of her hospital gown and into regular clothes, while I'd remain close to Rory here in the room in case she needed my help}

{I knew bringing Rory in for the win was a slight ego blow for me, since I'd like to think I was the queen when it came to the power of persuasion. At the same point though, I could take pride in the fact that I raised Rory well, and turned her into a younger yet equally perfect version of myself. Even so, a satisfied grin creased my lips when I heard Luke agree to Rory's request. My shoulders rolling into a sheepish sort of shrug when I heard his question in response} What can I say, she makes her momma very proud. {I aired out in satisfaction that we were getting our way now. Grant it, Rory was the reason for this and not me, but regardless, I'd just take the win and not complain} You know you love us, Luke... You just can't say no to us. {I teased as I flashed Rory a wink and then a proud smile. I still didn't like the fact that my daughter was currently injured and lying in a hospital bed, but at the moment this conversation was managing to distract me from my mama bear level of concern} I'm going to go track down Rory's daughter and get a rush on those discharge papers. {I said as I pressed a tender kiss to the top of Rory's head then I turned my attention back to Luke to add} Would you mind staying with Rory while I do that? {Knowing I just wanted to get Rory out of here, and at home in the safety of her own bed where I could ensure she's properly taken care of}

{An amused grin greased my lips as I heard Luke's grumpy side starting to prevail. Shooting Rory a knowing sort of look and then a smirk, as if to silently ask her if she was thinking the same thing that I was thinking. Of course she was. Rory and I were like two sides of the same coin. We were nearly identical in our way of thinking, so I knew if I was thinking it, she more than likely was too. Judging by the mirrored grin that followed, and then the subtle nod, my silent question was more or less confirmed} But, Luke.... Please....? {I asked with a pleading in my voice while batting my irresistible lashes that usually managed to win him over in any kind of fight. Just in case that wasn't enough to sway the scale our way, Rory chimed in with her own means of beginning} "Yeah, please, Luke...? Come on, you know how much we love that movie, and it wouldn't be the same if you didn't watch it with us." {Rory said with a faux pout and forced "puppy dog" like eyes that made Mommy so proud right now. Oh yeah, that's my girl. I thought with pure satisfaction as my gaze returned to Luke; wondering how much more begging and pleading it would take from us before he finally caved and gave us our own way. I mean, statistically speaking, we won about ninety-nine percent of the time when it came to tearing down Luke's grumpy side and getting our own way, so I was confidence that his attempt now would also result in a success for us} Come on, Luke... Poor Rory was just in an accident. Look at the cast on her arm and that bandage on her head, too... Would you really deny her of this desire after she's already been through so much? {Okay, pulling the Rory card would definitely take the win in this case. In all the years I've known Luke, even when I get on his nerves, never once has he denied Rory of something that he knew would make her happy}

{As much as I know Rory and I both appreciated having Luke here with us, I knew we were both very picky when it came to choosing movies. We had our favorites, and typically our favorites would differ from something Luke would probably want to watch. All that to say, when Luke set his condition that after we watch Willy Wonka, he gets to pick the next movie, Rory and I glanced at each other in consideration. Rory and I were like two sides of the same coin, so although the average person would probably agree to his compromise, that wasn't the case for Rory and I. In fact, after staring at each other for all of a second or two, right on cue, Rory and I glanced over at Luke, and while shaking our heads "no," we both aired out} "No. That's probably not going to happen." {Expelling a soft chuckle in amusement before I heard Rory to continue} "No offense, Luke, but we're picky with movies." {I nodded in agreement with my carbon copy daughter before parting my lips to add} If it's any consolation, you're welcome to voice some suggestions, but we may or may not shoot down those ideas, because like Rory said, we're picky with movies. {A fact that I'm sure would come no surprise to Luke} "Oh, Pippy Longstocking! That's what we should watch afterwards." {I heard Rory suggest; prompting a nod from me and then a laugh as I awaited Luke's reaction to that suggestion. Having a feeling that wouldn't be his choice for a movie either} I don't think we own that one anymore, but maybe it's available at the movie rental store. If not, I'm sure we'll figure out something equally great. {Grant it, I don't know if Luke would define that movie as "great," but time would tell on how long he'd put up with us until we scare him away. Then again, Luke was used to us by now, so fortunately for us, it didn't seem like anything we did scared him away. It boded well for us that this was the case}

{I smiled when I heard Luke's words. First when he reassured the doctor that Rory would have round the clock care once she leaves with us, and then again with his follow up comment about not wanting to overstep his place. Honestly, I don't think that could ever happen. Luke was the one father-like constant in Rory's life. He had been there for Rory and I since she was a baby. Luke was there when Rory was taking her first steps, saying her first words, fixing her favorite food and meals for her every time she was sick or hurt, and he also cheered loudly for her every time something great happened in Rory's life. My point being, Luke may not have been Rory's biological father, but he was her dad for all intents and purposes, and Rory and I were both better off for it} You could never overstep, Luke. Of course we both want you there. Don't we, Rory? {I smiled over at Rory who nodded weakly in response then gave Luke a smile} "Since I'm injured, does that mean you'll stay at watch Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with us, Luke?" {Amusement creasing my lips as I saw the grin shift to Rory's lips. Knowing Luke wasn't a big movie guy, but if anyone could convince him to stay to watch a movie, especially that movie, it would only be Rory} Oooo, good idea, kid. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory playing while we are dining on Luke's famous cheeseburgers, chili-cheese fries, chocolate pie, and brownies. {I added with a grin; all the while watching Luke for his reaction to Rory's and my ideas}

{Rory was surprisingly calm. Clearly I was the basket-case in all of this. Then again, that's usually how it went between Rory and I. Something happens and I'm the one freaking out like a maniac, while Rory is the one calming me down} I think we'll call you, "Casty 2.0." {I aired out playfully as I gently lowered my hand onto the cast on Rory's arm. Although I really wasn't in the mood for jokes, at the same time, I didn't want to stress Rory out, so I figured one referencing the last time she had an accident that, ironically, resulted in a cast on her arm, it might bring a little light into the hospital room} At least it's the other arm you broke this time. Even'ing it out, I see, which is nice of you. {Again, my weak attempt to keep the conversation as airy as I could manage. I leaned in as I took a seat on the edge of Rory's hospital bed; pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead before slowly retracting} How are you feeling, kid? {I asked in concern as it was nearly breaking me to see my kid with another cast on her arm, but this time, bandaging on her head too. Why is it always Rory and not me. I mean, not that I'd wish an accident on anyone, but if it was going to happen to one of us, I'd always choose myself over my kid} "I'm okay, Mom. Just a little sore. And yeah, "Casty 2.0" will work." {Rory said with a brave smile. See? Case and point, my kid is broken and she's here trying to humor me and cheer me up, so I don't worry. I really do have the best kid in the world} Something tells me when we get to take you home, Luke's going to make you mashed potatoes, pancakes, cheeseburgers, and everything you want, while you heal. {I smiled over at Luke; knowing Luke loved Rory like she was his own kid. Anytime she was sick or injured, Luke always did what he could to take care of Rory. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I thought so highly of him. He was the dad to my kid that she always hoped for and deserved} See? He's the best, isn't he? {I said in response to Luke's promise to be here the whole time; flashing Luke a soft, appreciative smile before glancing over at Rory} "Thank you, Luke. That means a lot to me. I'm glad you're both here." {Rory quietly said but before much more could be said, the doctor entered the hospital room with an update} "Good news, Rory's test results all came back fine. Aside from the cut on her head, minor concussion, a couple of bruised ribs, and the broken forearm and wrist, she'll recover just fine." {The doctor said with a smile before adding} "In fact, I would be willing to discharge her today, as long as you both can assure me you'll monitor for the next several hours, to ensure no further injury or head injury becomes prevanlant" {The doctor added which prompted me to immediately respond} I promise, she will be in the most capable of hands. I won't take my eyes off of her, and if there's any sign of something concerning, you'll be my first phone call. And trust me, I'm a master with a phone, so I won't give up until I've spoken to you myself. Just ask Luke. {I pleaded my case; knowing I would never take risks with Rory, so if anything's wrong, I'll call the President or Pope, if necessary, just to get Rory the help and care she needs}

{As much fun as I had taunting and teasing my mother during that phone call, I had all but forgotten about the whole thing when I burst into Rory's hospital room, and found that Rory had since been brought in. Immediately rushing over to the side of Rory's bed, my eyes protectively scanned her for evident injuries and signs of pain. A cast on her arm... Stitches over her eye... A bandage on her head.... And it's hard to say what other injuries she had that were hiding under her blanket and hospital gown} My poor baby. {I said as I gently and gingerly cupped her bruised cheek in my hand} What can I do to make it better? {I asked as Luke filled me in on what he was told about the awaiting scans that the doctor was apparently optimistic about} Good. They should be optimistic, because everything's going to be fine. You're going to be in tip top shape in no time, aren't you, kid? {I said in response; all the while giving Rory a brave smile. Inwardly I was in complete knots though. My baby was laying in a hospital bed with a cast on her arm. I hated to think of what other injuries I don't yet know about} "I'll be fine, guys. I'm just feeling groggy currently." {Rory said in not much higher than a whisper. Clearly she was exhausted after this whole ordeal. Confirmation of this was written all over her face and features currently} It's fine, kid. Why don't you get some rest... Luke and I aren't going anyway, so we'll be here when you wake up. {I said as I leaned down; pressing a tender kiss to the top of her head; all the while slowly retracting my hand from Rory's cheek, and letting it drop down to my side once more}

{I flashed Luke an amused and proud grin when I heard his retort about me making and taking phone calls while inside his diner} No... Honestly, I don't think it would matter to me, one way or another. I just get such a rise and amusement in hearing your reactions to me making phone calls while in your diner. I mean, it's just too good to see you riled up, with annoyance at something as simple as a cell phone, for me to pass up that opportunity. {I said through a lingering grin of amusement; all the while my shoulders rolling into a casual shrug} If you ever repeat this, I will deny the fact that I ever admitted to it, but this stubborn streak within me is seemingly inherited from my mother. {Cringing at just the thought of me being anything like my mother as I ultimately left the room to call said Emily Make My Life Evil Gilmore. My head shaking at the mere thought of that. Of course I put my own spin on my phone call to my mother; pretending I was talking to a machine instead of Emily Gilmore herself, but hey, when it came to talking to my mother, I had to find fun where I could. A proud grin filling my lips as I ended the phone call and then made my way back to Rory's hospital room} Okay, so I had more fun with that prank on my mother than I probably should have. {I muttered out proudly to Luke, but immediately stopped, and all amusement left me when I saw Rory seated there in the hospital room in a wheelchair} Rory! Are you okay? {I said as I rushed over to the other side of her wheelchair; squatting down beside her as I did a protective scan of her. Making a mental note of any sign of injury she possessed} How are you feeling, kid? {I said as I looped a gently arm around her shoulder; leaning a ginger hug into her to let her know how happy and relieved I was to see her here and seemingly okay, but not hugging her too tightly, out of fear that I might hurt her} What did the doctor say? {I asked Rory and then glanced over at Luke; wanting to know what I missed while I was calling my pain in the ass mother}

{I glanced over to flash Luke a knowing sort of grin when I heard him first point out that if he needed me, he knows to call. Funnily enough, I found even more amusement though when he confessed that if I ever got myself locked up, calling him would be a waste of time, because he wasn't getting mixed up with the police or law. Of course I knew I could always call Luke for help; regardless of where I was or what laws I had potentially broken. My smile heightened a bit though when I heard him offer to call my mother for me, so I wouldn't have to do it. I think the sweetest part in that offer is the fact that I knew Luke hated the idea of calling my mother about as much as I did, yet for me, he was willing to do it anyway. Just further proof that there was no better guy than Luke} I appreciate the offer, because I know the thought of calling my mother is about as much of a nightmare to you as it is to me having to call her. {My way of letting Luke know how selfless and sweet his offer was. Also how much I wished he could be the one to call her for me, because I sure as hell didn't want to do it} It's fine though, I should probably be the one to call her. We both know, if I don't, I won't hear the end of it from her. {My mother was the queen of the marder act. That's for sure. I thought to myself in building dread as I shifted up from my chair and onto my feet; taking my phone in hand as I prepared to step out of the room to get this phone call over with} If I'm gone for more than a few minutes, do me a favor and come to check on me... You might need to make sure my mother hasn't strangled me through the phone, or drove me to jumping out the nearest window. {My eyes shifting into a roll as I exhaled loudly; further evidence that I was dreading this phone call. I thought to myself as I left the hospital room with my phone in hand; making my way to the nearest waiting room area, so I could place the dreaded call to my mother. It was times like this that I hoped I'd get lucky and my father would answer instead. At least he didn't make me wanna rip my hair out of my head at merely the sound of his voice, like my mother did. I silently considered as I reached the empty waiting room area, placed the call, and waited to hear the voice that made me want to scream. Sure enough, she answered; prompting me to try a trick on my mom} Hey, Mom, it's Lorelai... {Ignoring my mother's condescending voice ringing out in response, I continued talking; pretending that I got her answering machine and was leaving her a message now} Sorry I'm having to leave this information over an answering machine, but my signal isn't great here, so in case I don't hear your call when you return it, you'll have the information you need. {By now I could hear my mother repeatedly yelling my name} "Lorelai, I'm here! Lorelai? Lorelai, can you hear me? Oh, this stupid phone. I'm calling the phone company! Lorelai? I'm here, Lorelai!" {Of course I could hear her, but this method was better for us both. I justified as I continued pretending to leave a message on a machine that was actually the live version of my mother} Rory was in a car accident today. She's at New Haven Hospital, and her room number is 418. I don't know much currently, they're running tests, but I'll leave another message for you when I know more. {Still trying to tune out my mother in the background yelling my name; all the while complaining about something being wrong with her phone. Oh, my poor naïve mother. I thought with a devious grin as I gave some parting words to her "machine," and then I abruptly ended the call. A proud smile on my lips as I left the waiting room area and then walked the short distance back to Rory's hospital room}
