you loved the httyd costumes?? bro hiccup is literally wearing a modern hoodie. the costumes look like party city garbage. if they really cared they could have beautiful handcrafted period accurate clothing, but instead we got crap
I should have specified. I was speaking of Stoick, Gothi and the extras when I was speaking about the costumes. The main kids have a different dress style even in the animated films to set them apart from the rest of the clan and easily identify them as main characters, and that continued in the live action films as well. While I agree that the execution wasn’t great, I don’t find it to be my biggest issue with the film.
Costumes are a lot more than clothing as well, it’s hair and makeup too. Gothi in particular had a huge upgrade in the costume department. Stoick’s beard was also done quite well, and honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the beard alone took half of the costume budget, because fake beards, especially custom made ones, are crazy expensive. I also loved how they used Stoick’s cape to make him appear larger and more square, as in the animated film Stoick is practically just a giant square in his size. It’s obviously impossible for Gerard Butler to achieve that size, so they used the cape to create a more angular and larger silhouette without making him look cartoonish or out of place.
I wasn’t expecting period accuracy from this film either way. I can almost promise you that whatever you consider “historically accurate Viking clothing” is not what you think. I’ve never seen a Hollywood film ever accurately depict the Vikings, because there’s a huge difference between historical Vikings and Hollywood Vikings. Also, it’s a movie about dragons, there’s no historical accuracy in the original film either.
And while I definitely understand being upset over a film that has been near and dear to so many people being misrepresented, it’s not an excuse to be rude over someone else’s opinion of the film. I can see why you chose to remain anonymous for this. Hopefully this post cleared up some of my review, and perhaps any further discussion that might be had about the film can be done so in a way that is more appropriate and respectful.
Happy flying, riders 🐉🖤

On top of Jonathan having the horrifying experience of seeing a mother get torn, and dismembered by wolves after trying to get her child back, he has also been reminded that Dracula's promise of safety is a flimsy thing not so guaranteed now when Jonathan is closer to the end of his "work" journey.
The weird sisters dancing in the Moonlight outside of the castle after hypnotizing Jonathan really make the point of how nothing will protect him, and how they don't attack him because Dracula wants to do it first. There is no escape because nowhere is safe, and the only way that Jonathan can slightly calm down enough it's when he is completely alone in his own room (the one that Dracula can enter freely), where he can pretend that no one can touch him.

listen, Dracula Daily is great, but it's been happening for a few years now. we don't want it to get stale, do we? as such, I'd like to propose a some other ways to read Dracula.
Dracula Hourly (version 1): the same as Dracula Daily, but you get updates every hour. (note: this could be difficult as not all entries have clear time indicators.)
Dracula Hourly (version 2): you get all entries that take place at midnight, then all entries that take place at one am, then... you get the picture. same potential problem as listed above.
Dracula Nightly: same as Dracula Daily, but you read it at night.
Dracula Scrambled: one randomized entry per day. read the book in new and exciting ways every time the event rolls around!

okay now that we’ve a had couple lesbian blockbusters and milfs are having a romance moment, we need to bring back the manic pixie dream girl. she was never fuckin suited to fixing all the problems of some boring twenty year old everyman, but you know who could actually benefit from a quirky free-spirited blue haired girl with pronouns (she/they)? a newly divorced forty-something mom who’s trying to learn how to be herself for the first time in her life
