For once Brendan was rendered speechless. Of all the questions he expected to be asked, that had not been in the realm of possibilities for him. His relationship with the Frenchman was private, or at least he tried to keep it that way as much as possible. That they were together at all was no secret, of course, but the details surrounding it--particularly in regards to their past--wasn't something he readily chatted about.

Now that he was forced to think back on things, in order to form a plausible excuse he could give, Brendan realized he'd never really told another person about him and Matthieu. At least not completely. He'd let a few insights slip here and there in conversation over the years, but he never sat down and spilled the whole truth. He wasn't about to start now either. But, he supposed, he could give V an honest answer... at least in the simplest terms without causing himself too much hurt.

"I've not proposed... because he is already married."

Despite all effort to keep his expression neutral, Brendan's mask still cracked after that. It was a brief moment--a flash of sorrow in his eyes, a clenching in his throat--but notable all the same.

"Yeh are always curious 'bout me," Brendan replied, his tone somewhat cross even as the corner of his mouth lifted into a faint smirk. Were V someone other than his beloved apprentice, he might have killed her for daring to question him at all. Luckily for them both he wasn't annoyed by her curiosity. The Scottish bastard didn't want to admit it, but he'd genuinely miss her if she ever forced him to kill her over something like that. He did so enjoy the attention she gave him.. among other things.

Last night was... not fun. Accidentally overdosed on my insulin (I took my mealtime lispro instead of my overnight glargine). 911 was called and EMS came out and checked me, thankfully did not need to be rushed to the hospital. But I did have to stay up all night to ensure my blood sugar didn't drop into the danger zone. Thank God I had a "cheat night" for dinner, so my numbers were higher than usual, and they stagnated instead of dropped. Still hella scary and stressful (my anxiety still keeps spiking over it), and I feel like a zombie from the lack of sleep, but all is back to normal today and I'm okay! 🙏🙏🙏
