A timeless love like Brenda/Sharon deserves a fanmix that transcends the ages! The songs in this mix are from the 60s through 2024 and they are in order of year of release.

I have a headcanon that Brenda had an immediate attraction to Sharon and because she didn't know what to do with those feelings, she acted contentiously with her and then during Season 7, her guard was down and she let her feelings for Sharon bloom.

Similar to above but imagine from Sharon's POV. In season 6 when she's trying to get Brenda appointed as the Chief of Police, she's obviously falling for her and her feelings grow during Season 7.

This is illustrative of their forbidden love because Brenda is married and they're being good and respecting Brenda's marriage vows but they have their imaginations.

This could be from either of their perspective because I could see either of them being more inclined to resist being together (either because of being married or being Catholic, etc) but their feelings are so strong.

I'm thinking of this as a "we're stuck in a hotel and there's only one room and only one bed, oh no!" scenario where basically they give in and spend a night together even though Brenda's still married but their pull to each other is just so strong they can't stay away from each other.

Bette Davis Eyes – Kim Carnes (1981) Her hair is Harlow gold Her lips a sweet surprise Her hands are never cold She's got Bette Davis eyes She'll turn her music on you You won't have to think twice She's pure as New York snow She got Bette Davis eyes

I have a headcanon that part of why Brenda is contentious with Sharon at first is because she seems so perfect and put together and self-possessed and dresses well and she feels self-conscious about herself. I also think that Sharon probably feels some jealousy about how effortless it seems for Brenda to get her way and inspire loyalty in so many people and how she seems untouchable.

Brenda's into an older woman, obviously. Brenda's love for Sharon is strong and in Season 7 she's feeling protective of having Sharon as an ally and tentative friend as well. Even though Sharon is technically a lower rank than Brenda, she's in a different department and so she's able to be friends with Brenda in a way that she always has to be sort of separate from the Major Crimes team and Brenda doesn't really have friends (did we see her have any friends over the course of the show??)

People are going to for sure raise their eyebrows in surprise when they hear that Brenda and Sharon are dating! But they don't care about that as long as they're in it together!

A big reason I picked this one is the reference to candy. But also it's sort of like Sharon to Brenda "yes, you're married but we can't stay separate for long and I'm so into you."

Back to the idea that people would be shocked to learn that Brenda and Sharon were dating, it's an anthem about how the only thing that matters in a relationship is the way that the people in it feel about each other. If others could see what they see in each other, they wouldn't have any questions about why they love each other.

There She Goes Again – Sixpence None The Richer (1997) There she goes There she goes again Racing through my brain And I just can't contain This feeling that remains

All I can think of is Brenda watching Sharon walk into the hospital waiting room and laying eyes on her for the first time.

This is like Darth Raydor is a stone cold badass but she has a secret smile for Brenda Leigh Johnson and also Sharon is responsible for Brenda being not totally screwed during the lawsuit in Season 7.

I think about Sharon being burned by Jackson and not being willing to get into a relationship and risking heartbreak. But Brenda is the only exception. She just loves her no matter if it makes sense to her!

Coming to terms with wanting to be in a same sex relationship and being comfortable in their own skins.

Brenda and Sharon being together would definitely be a little bit scandalous to the people that know them and also because Brenda's married. So even if she gets divorced to be with Sharon and not have an affair with her, it's still a scandal. But they can keep it on the down low and they're definitely into each other.

Brenda and Sharon fell in love and they're a bit of star crossed lovers because of Brenda's marriage and Sharon knows it's going to break her heart.

Red Wine Supernova – Chapell Roan (2023) I just wanna get to know ya Guess I didn't quite think it through (Nah-uh, girl) Fell in love with the thought of you Now I'm choked up, face down, burnt out Baby, why don't you come over? Red wine supernova, falling into me

A BIG part of the reason I picked this was because it's called RED WINE Supernova and Brenda can't get enough but also it's like "oops, I fell in love with you" which is definitely my headcanon for this pairing. They fell in love despite all the odds. So why not do something about it...

Birds of a Feather – Billie Eilish (2024) Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know I said I'd never think I wasn't better alone Can't change the weather, might not be forever But if it's forever, it's even better

Sharon was really burned by Jackson and she definitely felt like she was better alone but then Brenda came along and they fell in love and Sharon is happy to not be alone anymore. But she also is realistic and acknowledges that maybe it won't be forever, but if it is then that's fantastic.

Whirlwind – Lainey Wilson (2024) I was a lone wolf Had my own back Climbin' that mountain, only voice howlin' was my own pack I was a lone star Shootin' for the moon But I finally found a rebel who's on the same level When I found you

Brenda and Sharon are both kind of out there doing their own things, they march to their own drums, they're independent badass women. My headcanon is that Brenda is mostly with Fritz because it's basically the path of least resistance. Not that she didn't love him but I don't think she chose really any of the milestones that happened in their marriage. So I think when she fell in love with Sharon, it was like a revelation and the finding of a kindred spirit.

They wasted too much time trying to resist each other because they were RIGHT THERE.

This is maybe the least tonally consistent but I really liked the imagery of Sharon basically being like "hey, when you break up with Fritz, I'm next" because she knows she's a catch. And much like Red Wine Supernova was chosen because of Brenda's love of Merlot, Sharon loves white wine and I enjoyed that bookending of the wine preferences.
