“1997 rolled into 1998 and the hunger strike neared the 30 day mark. The sight of men starving for their principles reached beyond Florida and drew the attention of national media including the Washington Post, the New York Times, and USA Today, along with Faith based groups across the country” (Jackson et. al).
This is sad. How can people be so cruel? I think everyone should be treated equal no matter what country you are from. If you’re trying to make an honest living in a country and not causing problems, then you such be treated as a citizen of that country getting the same pay. In my opinion, the state of Florida caused an embarrassment. Farm workers work hard. They should be paid fairly. I’ve heard of things like this still happening in the USA. I heard that illegal people come to work in the USA and are paid differently. They work really hard as farm workers and are paid very little because they are illegal. Sometimes they may not even get paid. I’m glad that things changed for the three workers in Naples, Florida.

“Too many people I know have cancer. Too many people I know have respiratory problems. Too many people I know don’t have the proper information to know how to diagnose what’s going on,” said Lawanna Gelderland, a community activist”. (Jackson et. al)
Why? This is sad. To think that the people in this low income housing project is getting sick due to air pollution. They are not safe inside or outside of their homes. Every breath these people take is harmful. There is nothing they can do to stop the problem, they can’t even move out of the area because it’s not affordable. The city of Orlando needs to take control of the air pollution problem for these people. Why should the city wait until the next five years to conduct a heath assessment? I think I know. I think the problem is theses people are poor and the city could care less. It would be interesting to check to see have changed been made with the plans, moving forward. It sad how low income citizens are treated. Why don’t the rich and middle class have air pollutant things, such as railroads placed in or near their communities? I’m guessing because they have money, which in term leads to them being more educated and knowing the laws and how to get things changed.

Food, Inc
A wow moment in the second half of Food, Inc was when they discussed how type II diabetes has become an epidemic in children. It used to only affect adults. This is serious. It’s mostly due to the goods we eat and how they are harvested. I myself is guilty of eating unhealthy. It made me realize I need to make some changes in my food choices.
