Martha Nussbaum on Tragedy
a) Yes i totally agree because eventually luck and chance play a very great role in the success of an individual and their good life.
example- suppose A has got great singing skills and he sings on the streets to make a living. one day a director is passing by and hears him (luck and chance) and gives him a chance to visit his office in the next week .Now it seems that his life is sorted as his luck favored him .Now when he is going to visit the director ....just a day before he visit the director dies .Now that luck has turned the Tables he will again have to live the sustaining life.
b)Yes , one who understands this that not everything that s/he has control over it’s happening and its pure luck , one cherishes their belongings and their life more. One becomes more grateful as well.

Oedipus
I though the film was great but also sad. There is a lot of action during the Colombian war. Which lead to so many innocent deaths.

Aristotle on tragedy
Aristotle defines tragedy according to seven characteristics:
(1) it is mimetic,
(2) it is serious,
(3) it tells a full story of an appropriate length,
(4) it contains rhythm and harmony,
(5) rhythm and harmony occur in different combinations in different parts of the tragedy,
(6) it is performed rather than narrated, and it arouses feelings of pity and fear and then purges these feelings through catharsis.

Blog #9
I think people seek out things that provide this sense of danger and fear so people can have a sense of what death is but, at the same time want to avoid it. Or it can be a way to get our stress and anxiety out of us. It can be helpful for people who are going through stress problems because it can relieve them.

MLK was inspirational with his words and was able to change the world.
Blog 8: MLK
The American Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King was considered to have been active in the 1960s. He spoke in a 1963 speech about his dream to end racism in the world. I have heard that one of his famous works is “I have a dream.” The inspiration of King’s leadership ability has had an impact on the crowd.

Martin Luther King
Something new i learned was that in 1963 Martin Luther King was arrested and sent to jail because he and others were protesting the treatment of blacks in Birmingham, Alabama without a permit. A court had ordered that King could not hold protests in Birmingham. Birmingham in 1963 was a hard place for blacks to live in.

Gandhi’s points about satyagraha can be true in certain situations. But, it wont work every time. Satyagraha is not a good solution for me because it can lead to people being dominant. People can abuse it and try to take horrible actions. Gandhi stated that the “Jews should have accepted their death in peace from the Germans”. It not right for a community to accept such cruelty and totalitarian.

Thoreau
Thoreau's argument is clear on why people just take certain actions toward the government. An in just government is controlling us and we should respond with actions that will bring them down. Thoreau does not only call for resistance to immoral and unjust government actions, he also criticizes the foundations of representative democracy majority rule, voting, and representation.

Book 7 and 8
Socrates shows the allegory of the cave and how a human perception cannot obtain true knowledge. Instead real knowledge can come from philosophy. We are lost in this world and our lack of education is bad. Socrates returns to his examples of unjust societies and unjust men.Socrates argues that there are four main types of unjust states: timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny.

Quote
Thus, "the various talents are scattered throughout both sexes, and by nature women take part in all pursuits, as do men, except that in all of them the woman is weaker."
Book 5 - The Republic
This quote shows that women should also take part of what men do because both sexes have talents. The female sex can eventually be more dominant.

Republic Book 3 &4
In book 3 Socrates keeps discussing the content of stories that can be told to the guardians, continuing to stories about heroes. The most important purpose of this class of stories is to inject the young guardians against a fear of death. In book 4 Adeimantus interrupts Socrates to point out that being a ruler sounds unpleasant. Since they cant have things that people think make them happy
