Intersectional online class struggle
“Proletarians of all countries, unite!” a political slogan made famous by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles in the 1800s could have more potential today. Recently, using the power of social media activism, working class American’s have been gaining support and a louder voice when attempting to bargain for fair pay, better working conditions, and better benefits. After the success of workers unionizing in companies like John Deere, and Starbucks was viewed in real time as members shared their experiences on social media. The online popularity of these movements seems to have open the eyes of working-class American’s as we see more and more occupations unionizing and striking for better conditions. Another benefit that can be linked to the use of social media activisms is the attention that can be received by those in power who typically would not have known. This can be seen when Bernie Sanders met with unionizing Starbucks partners to discuss their efforts and rights as workers, and more recently with the news of President Joe Biden seen on the line at the recent auto worker strike.

“Because the intersectional experience is greater than the sum of racism and sexism, any analysis that does not take intersectionality into account cannot sufficiently address the particular manner in which Black women are subordinated,” - Kimberlé Crenshaw
