Critical Thinking Activity
We believe that if the state was to give us 5,000,000 and another company was to give us 1,000,000, we believe that I wold be best if we invest the end into multiple categories. The categories we selected were 1,000,000 to go to crime because we felt that there are already a lot of funds going toward that, so our extra million would just be the cherry on top, 3,000,000 to go to education because we felt that our new and upcoming community will begin with the youth, so with that being state, we will ensure that they are highly educated, and finally with our last 2,000,000 we will invest that into affordable housing because we believe that if housing costs were lower, there would be fewer homeless persons, which may contribute to improving the general public's health. We believe that the mayor should also invest in which what we didn't invest so that way each category would benefit. we believe that the money should go toward something that is long term so that way the community stays afloat. we didn't feel like there was any irrevalant information but the information that we felt was revenant was that it was a urban area and also that the neighborhoods weren't too good. some other information needed to solve the problem could be where current funds are going. As previously stated, we believe the funds should go to multiple interventions because it would tackle a bigger cause. The way that our proposal. would change if the price was upped to 100,000,000 was we would evenly invest the money to each and every group so that we could have the best community possible.

Chapter 13 Fieldwork
Interview An Immigrant
The idea of what immigration is and how it plays a gigantic role in the world today should never be overlooked in human history. The opportunity of being able to immigrate to another country is the reason why there are varieties of different cultures, languages, and religions. People travel and explore new things, meet new people, while also adapting to other cultures which is why America is the way it is today. If anything in my opinion and which many other Americans believe, without immigrants, America wouldn’t be the america it is today.
“Jamaica now is completely different from Jamaica then”, is how my interviewee decided to start off our interview. Before coming to America, my interviewee lived in Jamaica, West Indies just a little to the east of America. Born in 1974, my interviewee described her lifestyle as a child overall as “once you're born, adulthood is upon you”. Giving a vivid explanation, she explains how high Jamaica parents' expectations are when it comes down to manners, schoolwork, and basically everything. Because of this, she spent more time trying to please her parents than trying to be happy. As stated, “ I sort of wish that I can go back in time sometimes and just do things for me and what I want… What makes me happy.” Growing up as one of the oldest, she explained how her parents would expect her to always lead and be an example for others. Furthermore, looking into the history of her parents and grandparents, they were farmers and sold coal in order to maintain their life. Once finally in a stabilized predicament, her grandmother filed for all of her children and her children’s children to be able to move and live in America. Ever since the age of 13 she’s been living here since. Her mother graduated from Saint John's University with her masters degree which inspired my interviewee to continue her education after high school, following her mothers footsteps in earning her bachelors and master's degree. When speaking about adapting to new living arrangements, she highlighted how hard it was for her to fit in being a foreigner in a foreign school. She explained how at school, as some times past it took them some time to warm up to others and actually seek new friendships and relationships in a new country. The interviewee was asked to describe her life right now, how far she’s come, and overall update. “Life is alright, slowly but surely doing everything I can to live the life that I want to live.”. In present times, the interviewee has decided to extend the use of her education, now working at Columbia University School of Nursing, married with 3 children.
Nevertheless, this overall wraps up the experience of an immigrant.

How Does the News Media Cover Social Class and Inequality?
Chapter 10 Fieldwork
Karl Marx, the inventor of the idea of being in the social classes of the Bourgeoisies and the Proletariats emphasizes his idea that more labor means more profit which thus led to the surplus. Nevertheless, the article above supports Marx ideas and his beliefs because it highlights how if the economy can increase the production of goods and material, there would be an enormous growth in profit for both the companies and workers. Additionally, this article provides charts and graph documenting the growth that occur since the change in labor, highlighting the increase in wealth.
Throughout Chapter 10, Max Webster reveals his point of view on who should be in power, basically who should be in control of the nations important artifacts, documents, and money supply and with that he concludes the idea that the government should be in power. Thus, the article above proves Websters point of view because it highlights how the Federal Reserve sole purpose is to ensure the nation's economy is stable. With such powers, they are the ones that's ensuring another Great Depression is avoided.
Pierre Bourdieu believe that culture is influence based on what is taught in schools. Because of that he believes that cultural capital is what truly influences ones social class. Examples of this is the article above that explains generational wealth. Nevertheless, if a family starts to save and invest in their future family members, this can bring wealth for multiple generations. This also reveals how some are automatically born into high social class ranking due to again generational wealth.

CH. 9 FIELDWORK
Tumblr media
Above is my family tree which I decided to start with my parents and their siblings making my way down to me and my siblings. Nevertheless as seen on my tree, both my mom and dad have a section that they share, and then they have their own unique section that highlights a time of their lives before coming together as one. My parents had 2 children together aka me and my little brother as shown in the middle section with a star indicating me. As seen both parents have their own section that breaks off apart from me and my brother due to having children from different areas. When deciding who has been cultivating and pruning my tree, I would say my dad has gone on a baby spree at some point in his life which is shown on the left where you would see I have multiple siblings on my fathers side. When thinking about the ideas of culture, males having multiple children is actually normalized in today's culture and society due to male dominance and them being able to justify having multiple children by multiple women. Furthermore due to this event, thus explains the additional multiple set of children shown in the graph which are my nieces and nephews. When looking into my family tree, I honestly don't feel as if my tree has a story. I actually see my family tree as a regular family tree nothing more, nothing less.

CH. 6 YOUR TURN FIELDWORK
Tumblr media
(not ancestors but relatable)
My ethnic background is born in America with Caribbean parents. My parents were born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies where they both migrated to America at very young ages for better opportunities. During the time, many people immigrated to the United States in search for work and opportunities which thus led to my existence today. My mother has been living in America since she's was 13 and my father has been here since her was 18 years old. When thinking about whether my family has embraced the American Nationalism, they have to an extent. We celebrate some American holidays, eat American food, and they've actually learned to adapt to America's societal norms and speak like us. My parents integrate their American identity with their ethnic identity by masking their original culture when around certain people. Specifically, my mother won't use her Jamaican accent when in her work field, instead she tends to speak more "proper" and "American" when in a professional setting. My results from my studies affected my personal view on ethnic and nationalism because I've realized that many people tend to mask their accents or culture in certain settings so they won't be judged or it being as simple as being seen as "unprofessional". Despite that, many people still represent their culture and embarrass their ethnicity in America.

Racism
The Story of the Little Rock Nine highlights the boldness and courage that mince African American student held during the time of racism. With the goals of desegregating an all white school by attending, they faced backlash, riots, and were terrorized everyday until they’ve reached their goals. Culture of Consumerism: Your Turn Fieldwork 2
Tumblr media
When looking at all of the items that I own and categorized them as a want, I realized that those tend to be way more expensive than the things that I need. I also realized that everything that I want, has been influenced by social media or friends and family. Summing everything up, something that I realized about myself is maybe I need to take a break from social media and maybe I'll stop buying so much unnecessary stuff and actually save more.

Uneven Development
This image shows and example of uneven development happening in the world. As shown there is a sort of separation between the new building and old buildings. This is an issue because instead of trying to rebrand and remodel everything, the poor is being pushed to the side.
