Maybe, it would not surprise me if that thing was somehow related to the box anyways. Oh, and if it feels like an earthquake on the ship, we are definitely quite close to whatever the source of these gravity waves is.

Not sure if this is related to anything, but my little gravity wave detector has been noting a pulse every couple of days at least as strong as what comes off the box at about six meters of distance.

Likely explanations could be that it’s something natural, like a pair of black holes orbiting eachother or a high tech civilization somewhere, like somebody experimenting with some sort of ftl shenanigans. The annoyingly plausible explanation is that it is probably related to the black box or something from dreams.

I don't know much for certain, but I suspect the hunter is a rather personable version of the type of thing that comes with the bifrost. And this new menace, well, it seems to dislike the hunter. Honestly, the best knowledge on the hunter I have is that it seems related to a myth from my home.

Life on my planet was definitely seeded, and whoever did that seeding broke something fundamental with reality. There's, for back of a better word, holes in reality, like a tiny oil slick in the air. Not big enough to pass through, most of them are tiny pinpricks in a mesh.

But, the older folks say that about every five centuries, these tears open wide, and a hunter and many hound-things come through for a night, if they start hunting you, you must survive the night, if they catch you before sunrise, they will kill you, but they return to where they came when they see the sun rise, so run east if you can.

As for the thing I mentioned before I pulled out the violin, I can hear the sounds of it hunting me in my dreams sometimes while awake, it happens especially often when the black box is acting up. I start hearing baying hounds and heavy footfalls, sometimes I even catch glimpses of the hunter and his hound's shadows in the odder corners of the room. I think these are hallucinations, but I'm unsure.

As for being offered refuge, it's never happened before. Though, I feel like there is something I should remember, about meeting the hunter before I left my world, but my brain won't let me remember.

This question comes because for once my nightmare was different, but does the epithet "Haunter of the Dark" mean anything to you? Something in my dream introduced itself as such, and despite being aware I was dreaming this time, I couldn't do much more than get it caught up in circular reasoning and hide myself near an imagined fire.

Somehow it was worse than my normal dreams of being hunted.

Honestly, I think our best bet for now is to basically pretend we’re a warm rock. I doubt we can outrun it if it finds us, but if we just keep the same path, we look an awful lot like an slightly warm asteroid from far enough out.

But yeah, more knowledge might help.

I’m not injured from hitting the floor, but I still don't like this. Mainly, I don't trust any offer that chases me down and restrains me.

As for why it wants our position, I think it just wasn't consciously aware of us, and something, I don't know what, was kind of like hearing a mouse squeak, you know it's there, and you probably want to find it, but you're not sure exactly where yet. It could probably find us if it tried, but it would have had an easier time if it didn't have to search because it's like looking for a single mouse in a huge warehouse.

As for what it wants? I think it's safe to assume whatever it wants, we don't want it to have that.

It started as my dreams usually do since I left my world, a person who it hurts to hold a picture of in my head hunting me. This time, I noticed how the the stars weren’t moving and realized I was dreaming. I put myself away, deep in space, not being hunted in the moss-covered ruins of past life.

Then the stars started winking out, all but five. I tried to get them back but they just wouldn’t return. The five stars all moved together, and seemed to almost vibrate as I heard a voice, several actually but all part of the same speech.

The only word it really spoke at first was just “interesting” but I also heard other parts of its voice saying things like “We’ll see how that Hunter likes interference” and “wonder if it realizes” but it was more like something else was thinking that in my mind if that makes sense.

I asked it “what are you” and it just moved past that and said “I think you have something I want. So, a deal. You let me know where you are, and I give you refuge from that Hunter in your dreams, in my domain”

Now, I’m not stupid, so I doubled down on asking its name, saying I can’t trust something that I don’t have any name for. If I have a name, I understand something.

That’s when it mentioned that it was called the Haunter of the Dark. I accused it of being the Hunter, mainly to set it off. Its reasoning for why it wasn’t the Hunter was that it was offering refuge, which I pointed out is exactly what the Hunter would do to trick me.

This continued until I noticed one more pinprick of light and, following it as fast as I could, found myself in a cave around a fire. I kept it going, feeding it wood and leaves and nightmares and rage slowly. Then those same stars appeared in the dark corners of the cave.

It demanded I agree to let it know where I am, insisted that that bit of knowledge is useless, and the darkness seemed to beat at the fire. It had almost faltered when I finally managed to wake up. I apparently fell out of my bed and the shock of hitting the floor was enough to wake me.

I miss my festival jacket, forgot it when I left and it had better embroidery, and yeah, bigger than this by a fair amount even back then, but not a bad picture of me before my eye just vanished and I cut my hair shorter. Still unsure how I lost it while asleep and still had an eyelid.

But yeah, not that far off besides size from when I was younger and had both eyes and did fancy things to keep my hair safe instead of just tying it back.

So today I did my hair for the first time in a while and apparently the new style reminds everyone of Odin... why do I even try...

Either way here's a cool portrait of how it looks like, I am also creating my API's to the best of my ability considering there is only one body type.

Here's Runi, she has much more fat than this and while her hair resembles this it is much more elaborate but this is a pretty good picture.

I'm yet to find one of those things that does justice to Vidar's unique hairstyle and this is no exception, he also dresses far more.. revealingly and has a lot of muscle

It’s been many, many long months in space. Kind of fell into a rhythm that didn’t include broadcasting out into the void.

The homesickness has caught up. I sent a probe back my planet’s way, well a retrofitted derelict spaceship, but still. It’s as I feared, everyone’s dead. The surface got irradiated, and then a solar flare hit, which wiped out those underground due to their dependence on hydroponics. I’m the last survivor, or one of a handful.

The data packet took months to reach me, but it does look like there are wrecked and purportedly unsalvageable ships that are just gone, so maybe someone pulled the same shit I did.

The worst part, is I am hunted in all of my dreams, and I know the hunter’s face, pale with grey hairs growing out of it, and yet, some aspect of how he moves and the way I can’t properly see most of him without my mind reeling tells me that he’s more akin to a thing from the bifrost than I feared.

And that’s not to mention the baying, I’ve learned to ignore it, but it is constant now, sometimes I think the others hear, especially Lyf, that it’s not a hallucination, but I know better.

Somehow, being near the box mutes them, like there’s a silent cacophony drowning them out. I’ve heard the music before, with that last experiment, and I swear it’s the same music drowning them out even if I can’t hear it.

So, I’m screaming at the void. I know nothing about this. I can do nothing, but, I can scream and that is enough for now.

I think the robot fryer I gave you is decent starting point. It’s really simple and almost any spacefaring culture has the tech. Basically, I’m using a small radiation battery to slowly build charge on a huge capacitor. Press the red button, and it makes contact so the capacitor is connected to itself through a coil of wire around a metal rod after a timer runs. That’s the safe version, the version I gave you has some small explosives that compress the magnet.

They’re a safety tool if you can believe it. I used to work with old war robots that survived at least one massive solar flare, if something goes wrong with repairs, and they start powering on, better to lose a robot than an engineer. These ain’t used in war because they don’t really work outside the robot, but throw them in an open maintenance hatch, and whatever the weakest link of the system is fries almost instantly, preventing dismemberment by faulty programming.

I probably should have asked sooner, but, I've been trying to learn your engineering, does anyone want to learn a few tricks that I have from my world's various engineering standards? @bricne-escapee-of-ivern

Well, this room really isn't a good place to rest, it gets rather noisy at times. I'd assume you want to rest in your bedroom. As for me, I'm probably fixing the computer and teaching Runi how to make the robot fryer I gave her. Don't worry, it would have stayed in the room, metal walls.

As for how it sounds, I'm doing my best to block it out. I hear a lullaby on pipes, but somewhat faintly, there are horns and baying hounds. I think that last bit is my senses being unreliable, considering how often hunting horns and hounds are in my dreams, even before I joined this ship.

Well, I believe the headphones might be playing on their own,I think we should at least move you to your room, you have access to this there, and I can’t pretend to be a medical or psychological professional, but a bed, and limiting other people’s exposure to it, seem like good ideas.

I just know the music is providing its own power source and doing the math to make it reach the headphones as sound by itself. I fear I have learned something useful, but I’ll have to think on it.
