The thing about knitting is it’s much harder to fear the existential futility of all your actions while you’re doing it.
Like ok, sure, sometimes it’s hard to believe you’ve made any positive impact on the world. But it’s pretty easy to believe you’ve made a sock. Look at it. There it is. Put it on, now your foot’s warm.
Checkmate, nihilism.

I’m so emotional about dinosaur stuffed animals,,, there are these creatures, extinct long before any of us were alive, but we found their bones and their eggs and their footprints. And we made drawings and models of what they could’ve looked like. And we made them into stuffed animals so we could hold them. We made them soft so we could love them. I’m sobbing

In an endless sea of "you can do it! Keep trying! Stay positive! Your only limit is your imagination! You can do anything you put your mind to! Success is inevitable! You are limitless!" what I want to say is that it's okay if you can't do it. Because sometimes you genuinely can't do something. And that's okay. That's not you failing as a person or not trying hard enough, that's you getting to know the limits of your body and your mind and learning to build a sustainable life within them. Which is actually a healthy and necessary process. Failure isn't the opposite of success. It's an inevitable part of it.
#SO SO SO TRUE BESTIE#I know I’m very much a “you can do it! guy#but genuinely it’s okay if you can’t#we all have our limits and that’s okay :)#nighty reblogs

Hear me out: Cross Stitch, Knitting and Crochet are literally the PERFECT hobbies for autistic people. It’s got texture, instructions to follow, codes and symbols to learn, grids to match. It’s repetitive, it makes soothing little noises. A lot of special interests have related patterns so it’s a 2 for 1 deal. Good starting conversation topic if you are feeling social but also doubles as a reason to ask to be left alone. Shit slaps.
#THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT#technically I have ADHD and not ASD but I find a similar appeal#nighty reblogs

not sure if this will make sense to anyone besides me but: the antidote to negativity is not positivity, its warmth

Also I think we need to get rid of the idea that therapy is just a paid bestie for you to vent at because like therapy is so much more than ranting to someone it's challenging your internal cognitive disconnects and replacing maladaptive coping mechanisms and a whole bunch of other stuff and involves you putting in as much work as the therapist but I feel like that part is lost on people
#nighty reblogs#this stuff is important!#start wherever you can with therapy#but it’s important to remember this stuff

sometimes plushies make me cry because it’s like. they’re little guys made to be loved. their only purpose is to be held and hugged and loved. we made them because we love making things and we love loving things. and they’re so cute
