I like to think they were put on a group project together at the academy and that's how they met.

Ngl I loathe megastar but I make an exception for ur fics cuz they’re so damn funny and u don’t woobify them- u work with their toxic traits and try and make a functional somewhat healthy relationship out of it and I appreciate the work you’ve put in 🦾 (cuz that’s one hell of an achievement given how much of a disaster those two are)

Not every ship is to everyone's taste, because there are ships that i loathe too (not in this fandom, btw) so I totally get that.

I also think it depends on what continuity you look at, because characters in Transformers can be completely unrecognisable across different media, (look at 'Skywarp' in TFA)

There's at least a little bit of G1 characterisation in ALL my fics because for most of these characters, that was their first introduction. And for Megatron and Starscream, THAT was the dynamic I liked to ship. Two evil cartoon idiots. Starscream's ridiculous grabs for power. Megatron inexplicably letting him get away with it. That one episode where Starscream launches himself at Megatron when Megatron's trying to shoot, you know the one

When you think of the trine as brothers

Who do you picture being the older one?

Personally I think TC fits the vibe of being the eldest, he gives "I've had to deal with you bs since you were born" while also having "Something happened to my baby sibling that is unacceptable they are so little how dare you"

Definitely Thundercracker as the oldest. Skywarp as the middle. And Starscream as the youngest child, thinking he's entitled to everything and above all laws made by both man and god

4 is the number of misfortune. Therefore, my fourth Nezha retelling idea is the one where he's unquestionably the villain.

This version of Nezha let his identity as the Pearl Spirit incarnate bloat his ego. It's also Taiyi's fault; he kept telling Nezha that as the Pearl Spirit, he had more importance than a regular mortal and even some gods. A combination of Taiyi's overindulgence, his own superhuman strength, and his proficiency in wielding heavenly weapons makes Nezha think: "I'm untouchable! Everyone (except my parents and master) are beneath me!"

Nezha plays in Jiuwan River with his Universe Hoop and Red Armillary Sash, knowing full well what they'd do to the waters. He doesn't care if he kills some marine life—he'll be blessed with fresh seafood for dinner! The ripples reach the Dragon Palace. The Sea Yaksha heads to the river to investigate. Nezha pays him zero respect and goads him into a fight. After killing the Sea Yaksha, Nezha shakes the river harder for fun, sending the corpse crashing into the Dragon Palace. Ao Bing emerges next. He wants to avenge the Sea Yaksha and protect his home. Nezha finds Ao Bing attractive, so he doesn't kill him as fast as he did with the Sea Yaksha. He toys with Ao Bing – tortures him at length – before finally ending his life. Nezha doesn't take his tendon; he brings Ao Bing's entire dragon corpse home. This of course gets him in a lot of hot water with his parents (and soon, Ao Guang).

Later, Nezha finds the Universe Bow and Sky-Shocking Arrows on the border of Chentang Pass. He decides to shoot one arrow in the sky to watch it fly, not caring at all where it might land. Next thing he knows, he has to go to White Bone Cave on Skull Mountain because he had shot Biyun with an arrow that had Li Jing's name on it. Shiji is insistent that Nezha must die and Li Jing should be punished gravely for allowing his son to become such a vile murderer. Nezha proceeds to try to kill Caiyun and Shiji to cover up his crime. He manages to defeat Caiyun, but Taiyi had to jump in to fight Shiji. Taiyi can sense when and where there is trouble. He also sensed the four dragon kings were at Chentang Pass, confronting Yin about Nezha's crimes.

After Nezha and his father return home posthaste, the dragon kings state they have full permission from the Jade Emperor to arrest Li Jing and Yin. The alternative is, Nezha will become a prisoner of Ao Guang, serving him until he has truly repented for killing Ao Bing. Nezha decides he'd rather return his flesh and bones to his parents. He knows Taiyi will find a way to bring him back anyway.

Yuanshi Tianzun finds out about what happened to Nezha and goes to see Taiyi. How was Taiyi training the Pearl Spirit incarnate that it resulted in the Jade Emperor allowing the dragon kings to arrest Nezha's parents and then the incarnate himself committing suicide? Yuanshi Tianzun orders Taiyi to rectify this issue and make Nezha a more virtuous person, or else Taiyi will be removed from the Twelve Golden Immortals.

Taiyi's solution:

resurrect Nezha in a lotus body and confiscate his weapons

resurrect Ao Bing in a body of Armand pine and Tinospora Sinensis

heal Caiyun

stick the three in one place and not let them out until Nezha is able to get both Ao Bing and Caiyun to genuinely forgive him

Things are off to an awful start, obviously. Nezha won't acknowledge his wrongs, and Ao Bing and Caiyun won't forgive someone so remorseless. Taiyi, though, readily admits it was his mistake letting Nezha grow this arrogant. Now, Taiyi's immortality and Nezha's fate are at stake.

Both master and disciple are actually quite similar. Taiyi defeated Shiji without killing her, and currently has her trapped in his Nine Dragon Divine Fire Coverlet because he finds her tiny rock form cute. Together, they watch Nezha, Ao Bing, and Caiyun.

The only way for Nezha to grow is to learn empathy. His whole life, he has never seen anyone as his equal (his parents and master are above him) or worth caring for. When he sees Ao Bing and Caiyun get along fairly well, Nezha realizes for the first time how lonely his existence is, yet he's scared of opening up and experiencing rejection. Thus, he starts trying to be helpful to Ao Bing and Caiyun in the most tsundere fashion possible.

To start, JOL is great - good acting, costumes, storyline, etc.

My point, though, is the topic of equality that comes up.

First off, countries need a government. The emperor, as the manipulative shit that he is, actually knows how to run a country properly and is able to conduct proper checks and balances.

Fan Xian is a prime example because his fathers all want him in important positions. And without proper balance, Fan Xian will become the next dictator, whether or not he chooses to.

In this case, the emperor keeps Fan Xian's power in check by removing any chances of strong political support. (Hence, the execution and exile of ministers)

Secondly, the position of women in such a society. (It is a male-centric story, after all.) The women are either unnamed; e.g. only known as Madam <Husband's surname>, or Lady <Father's surname>, or given childish/babyish sounding names, with the exception of Li Yun Rui, the Elder Princess/Princess Royal, whose name actually has some meaning - her 'Rui 睿' means astute, 睿智 means wisdom.

The women are not allowed to become court officials. The women are not allowed to be in the running for the throne.

Fan Ruo Ruo is acknowledged to be a female scholar, but she can not take the national exams nor hold a court position. Li Yun Rui is as cunning and ruthless as the Emperor, but is not allowed to sit on the throne.

The ruler of Beiqi, the head of a nation, has to present themselves as a man to be acknowledged as a ruler.

For all his talk about following his mother's footsteps and fighting for equality of all humans, has Fan Xian never looked at the court and wondered why there were no women there?

Something I don't know if people caught on during S1 of JoL or realised the implications of IRT the Fan Family. Bcos the drama was careful about not being explicit about it ... Or perhaps didn't want to delve into it too much.

A few things:

There's a reason why Chen Pingping tells FX to be good to Fan Jian, that the man sacrificed the most for Fan Xian.

Fan Jian had a wife that birthed Fan Ruoruo. The Main Wife, mother of the household etc. We don't know what happened to her though we can guess she passed away. In fact Ruoruo even said at one point she had another brother.

The reason NO one questions Fan Xian's true identity, i.e. son of Fan Jian instead of the Emperor is that Rourou's mother gave birth to a son the same day as Fan Xian was born. The assassins DID kill a baby boy with Ye Qingmei, and yes it was Fan Jian's son.

Let that sink in a bit. In order to save Fan Xian, Ye Qingmei's son (and the emperor's), Fan Jian sacrificed his own new born son. And instead of any lingering resentment FJ has treated FX like his own son.

To commemorate the day I finally tracked down the Sheng Ming Lan and Gu Ting Ye wedding figurines, this is me questioning my life choices as I catalogue all the cdrama blind box figurines I've been collecting over the last few years.

As mentioned, the super secret blind box Gu Ting Ye and Ming Lan wedding set that cost stupidly much to make sure I get this in the "blind" box, but this is what adulting in fandom is. What else am I going to spend my money on?

Fan Xian's (范闲) courtesy name is Anzhi (安之)

It is part of a Chinese proverb:

既来之，则安之

(jì lái zhī，zé ān zhī)

"Now that they have come/arrived, they will settle here peacefully."

OR

"Since we are here now, we should make the best out of it and settle peacefully."

--- from 《论语·季氏》 // Analects of Confucius, Ji Sh. Specifically from the following passage:

“夫如是，故远人不服，则修文德以来之。既来之，则安之。”

NOW, someone out there who is WAY BETTER educated than me can probably provide a better explanation for this. So my interpretation is:

"If people from afar are not convinced by you (your rule, your fighting prowess etc), then you should create a culture of virtue to convince them of your rule/convictions/etc. Once they come, we must make them feel at ease so they can settle here peacefully."

There's a LOT of strategy/history etc behind this passage that I'm not even going to try to decipher.

I just REALLY love how Fan Xian's courtesy name is soooo full of meaning and history. But also can be interpreted as a direct link to his life - he is in this life and world now, it is best for him to settle in here with ease & find peace.

As a side note - Fan Xian's name, Xian (闲) mean 'idle' (free time to be unoccupied & idle, to have spare time). Basically the author is a genius of names and puns. LOLs.
