It’s been nearly a decade since One Direction split up, and the remaining four singers in the boy band–after Zayn became the first to leave–went their separate ways and pursued solo careers. During that time, Louis Tomlinson has released just two proper albums, as well as one live recording. That sole live title has become a hit in the U.S. this week, as fans of the pop-rock singer have snapped up his latest offering in huge numbers–months after it was first shared.
The star’s aptly-titled Louis Tomlinson: Live album debuts on several charts in the U.S. this week. The set has become a sales win for the musician after the project was finally released on physical formats. Before then, it was available digitally, but it seems that Tomlinson’s fans were waiting to spend their money until they could hold the full-length in their hands.
Live sold just over 4,100 copies in the U.S. last tracking frame, according to Luminate. The week before, it managed just single-digit purchases.
From one frame to the next in America, Tomlinson’s Live sales sum exploded. Purchases of the title grew by more than 68,300% in just a few days, which says a lot about how highly anticipated the physical edition of the recording was.
Live debuts on two Billboard charts this frame, thanks to that intensely increased sales figure. Tomlinson’s project reaches the Top Album Sales ranking for the first time, where it enters at No. 17.
The same effort is also new on the Vinyl Albums list, which ranks the bestselling titles on vinyl alone in the U.S. On that tally, it nearly matches its performance on the all-sales ranking, as it begins its time on the roster at No. 14.
Tomlinson has now scored three appearances on both of the aforementioned charts throughout his solo career. Live ranks as his lowest placement yet on the two rankings, and in some instances, his first to fail to reach the top 10.
