The stellar cast includes: Ella Joyce, Denise Dowse, Tiffany Phillips, Eddie Goines, Siaka Massequoi, CJ Lindsey, Ky Zieglar, and Bruce Lemon, Jr. Smell the Power, by Levy Lee Simon Synopsis In this roller coaster family drama, set in contemporary Queens, NY, the four grown children of retired educator Korina Davis, come back home upon the release of their older brother, Kenneth Davis from prison, where he spent fifteen years as a political prisoner. His return brings the family together where obvious differences in life choices, life styles and politics creates a dramatic family reunion. Her second child Carlton, is a very successful CEO but still suffers from middle child syndrome. Carlton, is living the America Dream, house, two cars, three children, a white wife and a 42K. And, he’s that Black man that believes in Donald Trump. Teresa, the only girl, is recently married to a police detective only to find out that he is investigating more than murder cases. Jeff the youngest, is living the street life, making fast money against everything the family believes in. No one would believe that these four were raised in the same home. Sibling rivalry, conflicting political ideology, and family dynamics lead to dramatic life and death circumstances which only the power of a mother’s can resolve. A mother’s love? You can feel it, chances are you can touch it, hopefully you can see it, you can definitely hear it, but sometimes it’s so strong you can smell it. SMELL THE POWER. Hope you can make it out to this special reading at Greenway. Mark your calendars ... July 8th, 7:30PM.

Meanwhile, in 1920s Mexico, the young Langston fights to convince his father, James, to finance his study of poetry at Columbia University. The Every 28 Hours Plays @ CSUDH
Tumblr media
6pm -8pm: Reading of #Every28Hours Plays 8pm - 9pm: Discussion and Reflection *At the Performing Arts Theatre: https://g.co/kgs/0poctp *No tickets required* *Parking: $6* (http://www4.csudh.edu/theatre-arts/university-theatre/) The Every 28 Hours Plays consist of around 72 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and features participation from artists across the nation. These plays were created with the goal of capturing the history in the making of our current Civil Rights Movement. The title of the project is inspired by the contested nature of the statistic that every twenty-eight hours a black person is killed by a security guard, vigilante, or police by extrajudicial violence. The plays will be presented and followed by a panel discussion lead by community activists and professionals to stimulate audience dialogue over this most timely and urgent issue. The Every 28 Hours Plays were co-created and produced between Dominic D’Andrea of The One-Minute Play Festival (1MPF) & Claudia Alick of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF), with the participation of playwrights, guest artists, and St. Louis artists and community members. Originally created and produced in the St. Louis community, the third phase of the project is a coordinated series of national readings and engagements all over the country sponsored and presented by our partnering theatres. For more information on the original artists who created this body of work, please visit: www.thefergusonmoment.com and https://www.osfashland.org/experience-osf/upcoming/every-28-hours.aspx

Riot/Rebellion @ The Skirball
Tumblr media
I produced this...
Watts Village Theater Company presents
Riot/Rebellion, a study of the 1965 Watts Riots, when the struggles of race, class, and power exploded in a once-ignored neighborhood of Los Angeles. Through first-person interviews interwoven with theatrical performances, students learn about this momentous period in local and national history, which still has great relevance today. The show’s message of empowerment and harmony emphasizes the role we each play in making a difference in our community, and the importance of not letting our voices, or those of our community, be silenced. After the performance, students participate in a dialogue with the performers.
