Help a Homeless Disabled Person Shower!

On Sunday 10th September, my carer accidentally left the stove on when she left and caused a fire in the kitchen that spread smoke throughout the house. As a result, I am unable to stay in the flat and am currently homeless and sleeping on my parent's sofa. Because of my mobility issues caused by Myasthenia Gravis, Functional Neurological Disorder, and the fractures in my spine as the result of tonic clonic epileptic seizures, I need a fully accessible walk in shower in order to wash. This means that I haven't even been able to wash the soot off my body from the fire. My Landlady's insurance doesn't cover a place for me to stay whilst waiting for repairs, and it's looking very likely that she will not be renewing my lease in November either. As a renter, I only have contents insurance and it's still not clear if my insurance company are going to pay for anywhere for me to stay.

So right now I am trying to raise some money to book myself some temporary accessible accommodation for a few days locally whilst I try organise everything! You can donate to my Go fund me here!

This is not just a photo it’s our daily reality in Gaza.

I am a father of five, living under the harshest conditions imaginable. My children go to bed hungry most nights, and I feel helpless watching them suffer. There is no food, no clean water, and no safety.

I myself am injured from Israeli airstrikes, and my health is deteriorating. I’m in pain, physically and emotionally. I want to provide for my children, to see them smile again, to give them a warm meal — even just one.

What’s happening here is not a natural disaster. It is forced starvation. It is the slow death of innocent people, especially children, because they are being denied food and aid.

I am Ruba. I have lived my life surrounded by destruction and fear.

We are in a famine. There is no food, no water, not even a simple dream to hold on to. The situation is difficult... unbearably harsh. Every day, I fight to find a bite of food to ease my siblings' hunger, while I can barely stand on my own feet.

Urgent 🚨

A girl's life goes from good to worse in a matter of months. Life is really strange,

In moments, all your conditions go from good to worse than bad. I think that what I regret most is that I did not photograph every corner of my house, I did not photograph every detail in the house, I did not photograph every joy we lived in this house. I was under the illusion that there was no need to photograph it because it would remain and nothing would happen to it. All we imagined was our life in it until death. It never occurred to us for a moment that it might disappear and become a pile of rubble. These are some of the pictures I took in my house and my family’s beautiful house.

This is all that remains of our house, and they are memories, some of which are beautiful and some of which are sad, but they are just memories. After living in this house for 25 years, I grew up and was raised in this house and lived in it every moment of my life. I was happy when I got married and when my family was in the most beautiful pictures of love and friendship, and I was sad when I left my parents’ house for my husband’s house. The house lived in my heart, but unfortunately, in this war, nothing remained of it and they demolished it in an instant and presented my husband’s and my house as if there was nothing here. They erased my house and my parents’ house and all the beautiful memories in it and it became just rubble on the ground. We go to it every now and then because even though it is rubble, I am still attached to it.

Then comes a strange feeling after this. You are in your city (Khan Yunis) and you cannot return to your home. You cannot return to your place because you cannot live inside the rubble. We settled in the summer in a small, exhausting tent that you cannot enter except to sleep. It was not originally ours. Our friends gave us this place to sit in temporarily after they saw that we did not have a place and that we had unfortunately become like homeless people.

We always thank God that there is something surrounding me and my family, even if it is a tent, from a beautiful and spacious house to a small tent that can barely accommodate us. The war did not only destroy our homes and dreams, but it also destroyed our youth. When I look at my old photos on my phone, I cry for myself, my family, my people, and everything we have achieved here.

These are some old photos that I love and that are really me away from the war, the sun, carrying water and living in tents. I put more than one photo because I miss myself before the war and I love these photos very much and I wanted to share them with you. Because of the tent life, most of the time all that surrounds you is the sun and because of the lack of water, I go to a far place to carry water here under the sun, so my face and body become like someone who is 60 years old and not a young woman in her twenties.

I wrote this simple little story about how my family's life and mine in particular changed between before and after, without details, so who can donate and help me and my family so that we can get back a part of our beautiful life? UPDATE: NEW LINK! Yahya and his family were displaced by the IOF, and are currently residing in Deir al-Balah, south-central Gaza.

Life as displaced Gazans was already extremely difficult for them. Food is very scarce, and their living conditions leave them exposed to the elements. Here is the frequent condition of their tent now that the winter rains have come:

Then, Yahya’s father was injured. Some cartilage was damaged in his neck, and doctors say he requires IMMEDIATE surgery to avoid permanent paralysis.

Yahya and his family previously had another campaign, but it was suddenly shut down by GFM with no explanation. They have created a new one, but it has EXTREMELY LOW FUNDS.

The surgery is a stifling €15,000 euros (about $15,729 USD). Yahya and his family have no hope of paying for it without your help.

I am currently watching an elderly loved one lose their mobility, and it is an extremely heartbreaking and isolating situation. I cannot imagine what Yahya and his family are going through, having no social or financial support and only minimal medical care.

Please give what you can to this family. You are their only hope to save their beloved father’s mobility!

Update on Nour and her family

I am close friends with the Al-Habil family, whose situation I have discussed under our “#ibtisam al habil” tag. There is still a lot of concern for the youngest child Nour, who is a disabled teen about whose situation you can learn more under our “#Nour Al habil” tag.

Torrential rains have flooded the streets of Gaza and all but destroyed the family’s tent. They are inundated with freezing, extremely contaminated water, which is extremely dangerous for 15 y/o Nour.

Nour is immunocompromised due to her heart condition. These flood waters carry gangrene, cholera, and polio bacteria among numerous others, as well as many viruses and pollutants.

We were about halfway through raising the funds for the tent when Nour’s mother, Ibtisam, suffered a herniated disc after sustaining an injury while moving a barrel of water. She is in severe pain, and can barely move. This is not only miserable and unhealthy for her, it also prevents her from caring for Nour.

In addition to the ongoing $2,000 USD needed for shelter, the family now needs $300 USD (about $433 CAD) to help Ibtisam manage her pain and be able to move.

New temporary goal: $52,971 CAD

Currently: $50,804 CAD

Need to raise: $2,167 CAD (about $1,500 USD)
