Au where yes. Bruno’s in the walls. But it’s straight up him refusing to see alma cuz he’s pissed. And everyone else kinda figured it out quickly, so they know he’s there basically from the get go. Pepa is the one who says. Yeah there’s no way he would have made it out of the mountains also this is the type of immature shit my brother would do. Julieta is a bit more concerned for his health and mental well-being once they start hitting a couple months and then a year. It’s not like he hasn’t hidden skmekwhere for a few days before but this…this is stupid. But If you try to drag him out he literally just gets into an impossible crawl space. If you try to trap him at night he knows ahead of time cuz he’s Bruno. Everyone KNOwS he’s shuffling around and might be half crazy and Dolores assures them he’s still kicking but it’s more of a everyone is exasperated and Bruno “cracked” finally and sometimes people pass by and knock on the walls as a greeting, but they just live accepting that Bruno refuses to come out of the walls. Sometimes people might glimpse him and if it’s a kid he might even stop to pat their head but then he’s gone and you’re not sure if you were hallucinating

Not sure if this is some borderline horror or comedy or both

No one can talk about Bruno in front of alma because she is PISSED and if he won’t see her she won’t even say his name and I know that shouldn’t be funny but like

So she pretends to the town he is gone. Because. How is she supposed to tell people her fifty year old prophet son is throwing a decade long hissy fit over god knows what and she can’t get him out of her walls

im a weirdo julieta truther btw everyone always talks about how strange and off putting bruno and pepa can be but i think julieta is inherently the most unhinged one there. she was absolutely the kinda kid to poke dead animals with sticks and would try and look at any injuries ppl got. teenage julieta attempting to flirt with agustín by saying shit like “i saw a mans bone break through his skin today isn’t that cool.” i appreciate the angst of the headcanon that she’s actually squeamish but i think she’s very much interested in seeing fucked up injuries, she’s always been both caring and morbidly curious.

Bruno: so..like a cool, atmospheric air, a crescendo of thunder and rain that created a perfect rhythm of tradagy and eloquence that can lull you to sleep or jolt you awake in an instant?! Or the feeling ov living in the pleasant beauty of nature, letting the gentle flow of droplets wash away your grief and pain?

Bruno gets a slapp for that one. Don’t get me wrong, he knows pain, but he does not know period pain

Let’s talk about Bruno.

The Madrigals receive their “gifts” at age 5.

Imagine being 5 and able to see into the future.

And some of those futures aren’t going to be good.

In child development a 5 year old is only just recognizing that they’re separate from other people.  Playing games with rules can be a challenge.  They’re still not quite sure what defines reality and fantasy.  They have fewer emotional outbursts, but they need help from adults to describe their feelings.  They often develop a lot of fears, including of supernatural things like ghosts or vampires, and physical harm or threats.  ( At 5 I developed a terrible phobia that I have to this day.)

5 year olds understand simple concepts, such as seasons, time, and recognizing words on sight.  Many can read on their own.

So Bruno wouldn’t have been equipped to understand or emotionally and psychologically handle the very ritual necessary to call forth his visions.

Maybe his visions were age appropriate?  It’d be nice if, at age 5, the only visions he had were fairly harmless: a donkey will have a baby; someone will build a new house; summer will be hot.

As he grew older, perhaps his visions matched his level of comprehension.

But his visions lean toward the ambiguous, and that makes things more difficult  The lack of clarity would frustrate those who seek his visions, and, one imagines, Bruno himself.  Though he seems able to sense when things will make the person who asked for the vision unhappy, and that would be an awful thing to have to pass on.  The impression the viewer gets is that Bruno wouldn’t lie.

Bruno is very like shamen of cultures around the world, and the oracles of classical Greece.  His design reminds me of hippies who’ve taken peyote or LSD (the second panel below especially.  I grew up in the 60s, when ponchos from South America were common, and I saw guys like that.  Some of them came away with permanently broken minds.  I wonder if the character designers had those hippies in ponchos in mind when they created him?).  Bruno’s visions aren’t chemically induced, they’re real, and any consequences, good and bad, would be real as well.

That’s one hell of a heavy burden.  At any age.

I can’t imagine how 5 year old Bruno felt about his “gift.”
