When a hobby-store's slogan is "History thru Hobbies", well, they ain't lying; you think about getting some AFV kits to use for your Orks and suddenly you're learning a lot more than you planned to about WWII armor! (Yeah yeah I still gotta finish that Ork Panzer III.)

It's like how fantasy and sci fi media are huge vocabulary-increasers (if I had kids I would encourage them to play lots of fantasy and sci fi games, just because they'll get exposed to so many words!); they just use words at you and you learn them. They don't have to point to the blackboard and say "a surcoat is..."; you just pick it up.
