I've been doing a lot of thinking about my family and how I was treated as a child, and honestly, my father has never seemed more amazing in my eyes.

I used to love Luigi(Mario's brother) when I was little. Like, he was my favorite character ever, and I had multiple plushies of him. Didn't give a fuck about Mario, vaguely tolerated Peach, but I loved Luigi.

On my first day of kindergarten, my dad gave me the number for his work phone and said it was Luigi's phone number. "If anything happens at school, call Luigi."And not even twenty minutes into my first day, I was having a panic attack. So I went down to the principal's office and called "Luigi."

Now, at the time, my father was in a meeting with his manager and his supervisor, along with most of his coworkers. And when I called, he picked up before he even left the room.

And he put on a very awful Italian accent and said, "Itsa me, Luigi! Whatsa the matter?"In front of his boss and coworkers. Without telling them what was going on. So they were absolutely bewildered, and he carried on like they didn't even exist. He only explained what was happening after I had calmed down and hung up, to which most of them responded with "Aww, cute."

I continued to call him whenever I got upset at school, and eventually his coworkers got in on it. I distinctly remember one of them impersonating Toad. I don't know why I'm telling you this, I just thought it might make you smile :)

Housepets has some of the best relationship writing I've seen. Like, it legit gave my asexual ass so much insight on open relationships and polycules.

One of my favourite qualities about Housepets is its romantic relationships. None of them feel purposeless. They either move the plot, develop the characters, or contribute to the overall vibes of the comic. You'd think this'd be more common, but Housepets managed to be the first thing that actually made my severely aromantic ass care about romance in media. I could go on about the Love Trapezoid, King and Bailey, Keene and Breel, etc., but the relationship I want to talk about today is Zach and Jess.

You have Zach (whose only relevance to the larger 'main' plot of the comic is opening the temple doors) who is worshipped by basically every woodland animal he encounters. Aside from being the Opener Of Ways, he is literally just a guy. That's his character: some dude who, by his (un)luck alone, keeps ending up in situations (e.g. he Life of Brians himself, gets enlisted, ends up with a magic glowing foot, etc.)

And then you have Jessica, the one woodland creature who sees right through the bullshit. She does not wait for miracles. When her friend's kid is sick she risks her fucking life to see a prophet she does not believe in to get him off his ass and do something. This is just when we first meet her. After Zach gives her some blankets and basic medical supplies, she describes her encounter with him as follows:

This isn't the last time she goes out of her way to help people either. When Zach is in danger she attempts to save him, not out of a feeling of "owing him" or anything, but simply because she's a good person. She provides housing for other woodland creatures when the treehouse is built (which later becomes a place for the foxes and the spontaneous TFees to live). She also shares very blunt wisdom with people (e.g. flat-out telling King that if he trusts Bailey he needs to fucking act like it). She may be cynical, but she embodies the very good that the Opener of Ways is supposed to represent.

So anyway, as the old adage goes, "[h]e was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it anymore obvious?" (Lavigne, 2002)

When the accidental domestic rabbit prophet and sarcastic opossum get together, they end up having a dynamic that VERY MUCH contributes to the vibes of the comic. I mean COME ON. Just look at this!

Usually Zach helps her navigate the human world (e.g. giving her a phone, checking out the mall) whereas Jess helps Zach deal with the shit he gets into (she acts like a pseudo-bodyguard and is the only person in his life who does not believe him divine). You don't see that in this interaction. This is just simply them being comfortable around each other! From this point onward, every single interaction they have is just them doing normal people activities together. It's nice seeing characters that, without each other, would have lived a very different life from the rest of the woodland creatures, be happy together.

I like their dynamic and they balance each other out pretty well. I could not have thought of a better way to tie up the Opener of Ways plot-thread. EASILY my fourth-favourite romantic relationship in this comic :)

I am only just now, JUST NOW, realising that taking photos in this was was very silly. Dipper has access to modern cameras but he chose an old timey method that required him to set up a developing room in the shack. He had to buy all the equipment and chemicals and stuff. This must have been so much more expensive. And it's obvious to me NOW that that's the joke, but only just now. This came out YEARS ago and I've just never questioned it. "Oh of course Dipper would now need to develop the photos," my mind said, "that's the next logical step in this plan." I think I might be stupid.

magical shadow! he's doing worse than sonic. much, much worse.

shadow's wish was for maria to still be alive. sounds great, right? he certainly thought so when he made that wish. well, as he soon discovered, wording is important.

kyubey brought maria back. however, she was just as she was before she had been killed: sick and ill-suited for life on earth. worse, she's in an unfamiliar time without her grandfather or anyone else that she knows. of course, shadow is here, but he's not how she remembers him. he's... different. darker.

shadow can't despair, because he has to take care of maria. he owes her that much. but he also can't let her make a contract with kyubey and wish for the rest of her family back, because he knows the truth of being a magical girl; it's to fight until you just can't fight anymore.

he keeps his powers hidden from maria not only because fighting witches is dangerous, but also because his powers aren't glamorous like most other magical girls'. see, shadow fights with a manifestation of his own witch, a vile creature shaped like the black arms that also serves as a physical representation of his destiny. it hurts him to use. but he will continue to fight. for him, there is no other option.

kyubey, on the other hand...? yeah, he's never regretted anything more than making a contract with sonic. this blue hedgehog pisses him off to no end. why? well, because the powers sonic got from his inconspicuous little wish actually HEAL soul gems--you know, those things that kyubey NEEDS to be tarnished?

maybe kyubey can still find a way to come out on top. he's not usually one for collaboration, but there's a certain other villain in sonic's world who also wants to see this hedgehog's downfall...
