Episode four Bucky thoughts (in no order)
1. I think it’s interesting there are conversations about if various people would consent to taking the serum while Bucky who was made a super soldier against his will isn’t brought up, nor does anyone discuss it with him, the only person available who had dealt with something of a life time of repercussions for being a super soldier. Nor is it discussed how whatever traits he had previously were amplified, now that he is free from control.
2. I don’t think Ayo comes off as wrong or bad in her actions with Bucky, nor do I think it doesn’t make sense to have a fail safe for Bucky’s arm. I do wonder if his look of shock is about her being able to disable his arm or if it is him being surprised that Ayo would breach his autonomy as far as his arm goes, when so much of the episode is based on people making decisions that he was never afforded an option with. I feel like a lot of focus has been put on Buckys trauma, when obviously this is very upsetting for Ayo when it is considered a personal failing of hers that resulted in her King dying, and now she is dealing with Buckys betrayal (in her opinion, which imo is completely fair)
3. I do not doubt that Ayo and Bucky shared a bond, but based on episode one indicating he has made no phone calls with anyone except his therapist, and the only person noted as texting him is Sam, it does not appear that his ties with Wakanda were that far reaching. Although it would not surprise me if he has a means of contacting them that his therapist would not be privy to.
4. So Bucky went to war as a young man, where he was mostly led by others and dealt with very real and very pressing goals. He was the winter soldier where he did not make decisions for himself, and had a very narrow period of time where he was deprogrammed and then once again was brought into battle with very real and immediately evident goals. I think when he makes his decisions, he is very focused on the immediate needs and does not consider the long term consequences (pissing off his allies in an extremely powerful and technologically advanced country, which did give him his expensive and fancy arm, and getting him tied up in issues with the us government, when he has conditions on his pardon.) I think Bucky comes off as very emotionally immature and that he does not consider the long term because for the vast majority of his time, he didn’t think there ever would be a long term.
