Healing is a choice. It is not an easy one because it takes work to turn around your habits. But keep making the choice and shifts will happen.

Lil Life Update/Who Da Heck Am I
Okay it’s been a hot minute since I’ve touched this blog but I fully intend on picking up where I left off. Do people even still use tumblr? I’m not sure but this is the only blog platform I understand how to use so we doing it. If you’re randomly stumbling upon this page then bless your soul. My name is Tessa and I’m a social work student at San Diego State University. I made this before transferring as a junior and spoiler, I survived my first year. The whole purpose of this was to a) document my journey as a student and b) be a resource to other people because the internet is a huge place and shockingly there’s very little information on becoming a social worker. Will it ever be a trendy and popular career choice? Probs not. But I wanted to show you that it’s the coolest dang thing to study and be a part of, in my humble opinion of course. I’ll go into more detail about certain things I experienced in my junior year and attending SDSU in general, but for now I’ll leave ya with a few things:
1. My fall semester focused mainly on the macro side of social work and my spring semester focused on micro. Guess which one I liked more :’) 2. I wrote more papers than I can count and I mainly studied different theoretical approaches. 3. The grading scale at SDSU is no joke (an A is a 94-100) and I somehow managed to get a 4.0 while working a part time job. It’s possible.  4. I interviewed for my senior year internship and got my first choice! It’s at a local hospital working in the outpatient oncology department. Excited is an understatement. 5. Medical social work is my passion.  6. I leave for my study abroad program at the end of July! I’ll be studying social services with an emphasis on global health in Dublin, Ireland for 10 days.  7. Studying social work has brought me amazing friends, inspiration, and a new found love the field as a whole.

4. My self worth does not depend on my number of followers.
5. I am enough just as I am.

Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors.
Andrew Boyd, Daily Afflictions: The Agony of Being Connected to Everything in the Universe

In case you were curious what classes a junior studying social work looks like! Ignore the writing class, that’s just for graduation. Hopefully this doesn’t kill me.
