Three fun facts: Victoria Aveyard

My school outfits consisted almost entirely of sweatpants.
I drove a Lincoln Continental like a retired old man.
To this day, I have never had detention and NEVER WILL SUCKERS.

This year’s theme is Flashback to Seventeen! Here are three fun facts about Victoria Aveyard when she was seventeen. Check back in each Friday for two more fun features, and follow along on our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for daily content leading up to the festival!
ABOUT VICTORIA
Victoria Aveyard is an author and screenwriter, born and raised in a small town in Western Massachusetts. Both her parents are public school teachers, as well as avid film, television, and literature fans. Victoria grew up on a steady diet The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and LOST. She pursued a degree in Writing for Film & Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. After graduating college in 2012, Victoria moved home from Los Angeles and began writing the manuscript that would become Red Queen.
She has since published three #1 New York Times bestselling and USA Today bestselling books, two New York Timesbestselling novellas, and continues pursuing her writing career while living full-time in Los Angeles, California.
The Red Queen series is currently being translated into 37 languages and counting.
ABOUT KING’S CAGE
In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard's bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the lightning girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion? Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continues organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back. When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

Three fun facts: Rhoda Belleza

I'd just learned how to ride a skateboard. I got cocky and tried to ride off a curb, but I fell and rolled forever and ever. I still have a scar on my hip.
I watched A LOT of Pokemon. Part of it was because my niece was 5-years-old at the time and totally obsessed, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't into it too.
It was the first time I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Not only was it a riveting, fast-paced read, but it changed the way I looked at the world--and it changed the way I looked at fairness and privilege and race relations. I still read it every few years.

This year’s theme is Flashback to Seventeen! Here are three fun facts about Rhoda Belleza when she was seventeen. Check back in each Friday for two more fun features, and follow along on our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for daily content leading up to the festival!
ABOUT RHODA
Rhoda Belleza was raised in Los Angeles, where she grew up writing X-Files fanfiction and stuffing her face with avocados. She's a children's editor at a publishing house and writes from a sunny Brooklyn apartment stuffed with far too many bikes and far too many shoes. When she's not writing, Rhoda obsesses over nail art tutorials, watches kung fu movies, and sews together crooked things that pass for clothes. Empress of a Thousand Skies is her debut novel.
ABOUT EMPRESS OF A THOUSAND SKIES
Empress Rhee, also known as Crown Princess Rhiannon Ta’an, is the sole surviving heir to a powerful dynasty. She’ll stop at nothing to avenge her family and claim her throne. Fugitive Aly has risen above his war refugee origins to find fame as the dashing star of a DroneVision show. But when he’s falsely accused of killing Rhee, he's forced to prove his innocence to save his reputation – and his life. Madman With planets on the brink of war, Rhee and Aly must confront a ruthless evil that threatens the fate of the entire galaxy.
