The boys in every episode: "Big Time Girlfriends"

Because I can't decide, vote on which fic I should work on next. (I'm eventually gonna write all of them; just can't figure out where to shift my focus right now)

Blurbs for each fic:

1: When Gustavo confiscates something important to Carlos, Kendall decides he has to step in. Pushed past his breaking point, he sneaks into Rocque Records to get it back—but finds Gustavo waiting. What starts as a clash turns into an overdue heart-to-heart of sorts, revealing sides of both of them the other rarely sees.

Highlights: Written with "Big Time Audition" Kendall characterization in mind. Kendall gets to be an infuriating little smart-mouth who loves his friends. Gustavo gets to show a (still gruff) softer side.

2. When Logan starts doubting his place in the band and the looming possibility of fame takes its toll, James finds himself pulling late-night therapy duty. (Takes place early in the series)

Highlights: Focus on Logan and James dynamic. James gets to shed his self-absorbed side for a bit and show his selfless side. Logan gets to be a mess.

3. School rules. Schedules. Expectations. Kendall’s had enough. So he hatches a plan: one perfect skip day for him and the guys to reclaim their freedom, even if it’s just for a few hours. (Slightly pre-series)

Highlights: More episode 1 Kendall getting to be a delinquent. Gets to rally the guys to make a Poor Decision. Deep focus on their dynamic & Kendall as the leader as he orchestrates a day rebelling against authority.

Big Time Rush Season 2, Episode 3: “Big Time Girlfriends"

Highlights: Kendall's on the struggle bus, Gustavo wants to shatter Carlos's fragile little heart, and James and Logan solve a personal problem in an interesting way.

We open in Rocque Records. The guys are in the studio recording a sad, slow song about heartbreak. They're all doing a great job except for Carlos, who simply cannot turn off the golden retriever energy.

We quickly learn that this is because Carlos has never had a girlfriend, and thus has never known heartbreak.

This, of course, is not good news to Gustavo, but we’ll find out how he deals with this little problem later on.

For now, we go to the Palm Woods pool, where Carlos is attempting to pick out a girlfriend. His first pick is shot down by Camille on account of apparent “anger issues.” The second pick is, well…

Carlos either needs to go for an eye exam, or to the neurologist for an MRI.

James chimes in that he’s already called dibs on the tree. So…yeah, something is going on with him, too.

Also, Camille is sitting in Logan’s lap.

We have come a long way from S1 Logan who couldn’t even come up with the words “Will you go to the dance with me?” on his own and needed James’s help.

Camille points out to Carlos that a girlfriend isn’t going to just show up with a corn dog and hockey stick. We’ll see about that, Camille…

She then asks Logan if he wants to help run lines with her to prepare for a big audition she’s got coming up, but he’s much too busy being a nerd and wants to go to the planetarium instead. James jumps at the chance to help instead, and immediately gets to work studying the lines and getting into character.

Kendall, meanwhile, is in the lobby waiting for Jo. And, by the way, I love that second or two before James surprises him because Kendall is just. Sitting on the couch, tapping his hands to some beat in his head. He’s so happily zoned out, and I love that for him. Just daydreaming away.

Unfortunately, he and Jo only get to spend a few seconds together before she’s called away to film her scenes earlier. But don’t worry, Kendall isn’t bummed at all! They’ll just do a picnic later. All is well.

Until Bitters chimes in with unnecessary commentary about Kendall’s relationship “succumbing to the pressure’s of Hollywood.” The cable’s down, so he evidently has nothing better to do than follow a teenage boy around and torment him about his love life.

Anyway, poor Kendall is left bewildered and in possession of an extra drink. What is he supposed to do with a BLUE SMOOTHIE? Drink it??

We go to Carlos at the park then. He’s angrily sulking and hanging out with the palm tree from earlier.

He even bought it some lemonade because he is a nice guy and definitely not someone suffering from potential brain damage due to taking one too many hits to the head.

Remember Camille’s words from earlier? Well, joke’s on you, Camille, because guess who crashes into Carlos? The girl of his dreams.

Her name is Sasha, and she’s Carlos in girl form. He falls instantly in love.

Over in 2J, James and Camille are being equally ridiculous as they run through Camille’s script. They’re in full costume, getting totally into it. A little too into it.

Uh ohhhh...

We switch back to the Kendall/Jo storyline then. While at the park, Kendall gets a call from Jo, who cancels yet again, on account of now she has to go do some last-minute interviews. Kendall is bummed.

That is a beautiful looking girly picnic, if I do say so myself. Poor Kendall.

After a cute montage of Carlos and Sasha, we learn that it’s all a setup by Gustavo to break Carlos’s heart so that he’ll finally be able to sing sad songs correctly. This is not psychopathic behavior at all! Kelly, of course, massively disapproves of this plan once she learns of it. Because she’s the only person in the entire BTR universe who is normal, I’m pretty sure.

Back to the James & Camille debacle! Camille convinces James that they have to tell Logan they kissed, and after some emotional manipulation (Camille starts crying), James agrees to be the one to break the terrible news. Before he can even say anything, Logan (still in full nerd mode) starts dropping some facts about Venus and Earth being “brother planets” and “galactic best buds who never let each other down.” This, understandably, makes James lose his nerve, and he instead confesses to using Logan’s toothbrush. Logan is NOT happy about this news.

Also, I have to draw attention to how Logan has spent his afternoon.

He went to an entire Venus exhibit and then came home with a Venus hat, a shirt, a Venus beach ball, and that big ol’ book. And when James greets him, Logan doesn’t even say hello. He just launches right into Venus facts with that huge smile on his face.

I haven't given out one of those award ribbons since early on in the first season!

We briefly return to Rocque Records, where Kelly threatens to smash all of Gustavo’s music awards with a baseball bat if he continues with his plan to break Carlos’s heart. I love Kelly so much. I think she should smash all the awards anyway.

Kendall's attempts to spend time with his girlfriend are not going well.

HOW AM I ONLY NINE MINUTES INTO THIS EPISODE???

Let’s return BACK to the Camille/James plot, shall we? Camille approaches Logan to check in on how he’s dealing with the news. (She say him freak out about the toothbrush, but didn’t hear what was said) Logan tells her he was a little upset at first but is fine now.

“Hey, if he wants to put his mouth on something worn out and gross, that’s his problem.”

Classic sitcom misunderstanding shenanigans happening due to lack of communication!! But also…Logan, maybe you should change your toothbrush??!

During the confusing exchange, the truth comes out. Logie rears back to punch James right in his pretty little face, but then reconsiders and instead sulks away. I must say that, even though he didn’t go through with it, Logan’s first instinct being to hit James is honestly surprising. Like, even given the situation and intense emotions, it just doesn’t seem to fit his character. Interesting. Perhaps another result of his time spent in L.A. and slowly evolving personality?

Time to jump back to Carlos and Sasha. Gustavo comes up with a new plan: Sasha is to become an overbearing, annoying girlfriend so that CARLOS will break up with her instead. Sasha screams for Carlos to take her shoe shopping and drags him out of Rocque Records.

Back to Kendall’s crumbling love life!

He’s unhappy that Jo keeps blowing him off, but their argument is cut short when he’s called away to Rocque Records. We’ll check back in on him a little bit.

Logan decides to combine his love for Venus and anger toward James into a fun little way to process his emotions.

After some back and forth between them, and with some suggestions from Bitters and Katie, they settle on having a duel to settle things between them.

Gustavo's plan to try to get Carlos to break up with Sasha isn't working well on account of Carlos not being fazed by any of Sasha's demands. All he wants is to make her happy.

Additionally, Carlos has also discovered he loves shoe shopping!

Kendall shows up to the studio, thinking Gustavo needed him for something important when it's really just so he can be an unsuspecting pawn in the plan with Sasha.

Kendall is having a very bad day, everyone.

He returns to the Palm Woods where he discovers Jo has yet another interview. He's about to throw in the towel on their relationship when Katie steps up to deliver the perfect pep talk that puts everything back into perspective for Kendall. She learned from the best.

Back over to Logan and James, who are handling the situation between them in an incredibly normal way.

I have to say, I forgot how ridiculous and funny this whole scene is. They're taking people OUT with spitballs. Absurd behavior. I bet James was absolutely thrilled to get to wear that outfit, though.

After hurting innocent bystanders and draining themselves of all saliva, they collapse to the ground, deciding that they don't like to fight and are gonna keep being besties.

Kelly forces Gustavo to come clean about his plan, and Sasha steps in to tell Carlos what we all know: that he is the most darlingest boy on the planet. She wants to try their relationship for real this time.

Also, I have vivid memories of this particular scene because it always stuck out to me how...unwell Carlos looks in it?? Like, he looks EXHAUSTED. I can't tell if those are dark circles under his eyes or if he actually has a little bit of a black eye under his left eye.

I'm not crazy, right? He looks like he needs to sleep for a week.

After patching things up with James, Logan talks to Camille, where he decides to break up with her. He pulls out helpful statistics, citing most first romances end in a breakup, so why not just take advantage of the situation and get theirs out of the way?

But don't worry, Logan isn't a total emotionless robot. He's sad about their breakup, but he's going to mask his pain by buzzcutting his hair, joining a gym, and nicknaming himself "The Island."

Their breakup lasts about 20 seconds.

Kendall and Jo decide to make the best of their limited time together by having an adorable speed date.

Go, white boy, go!

The guys go back to the studio to record a new song. Including this screenshot for no other reason than I like the moments Logan and Carlos look to their respective best buds.

We go into the "Boyfriend" music video and see the guys being cute with their girlfriends at a carnival. All except for James, who has taken the palm tree along as his date. There's a moment at the end of the song where a girl catches his eye and starts flirting, and James has to think REALLY hard about whether to choose the girl or the tree. He ends up choosing both.

It's very weird. James is a weird guy.

The episode ends with Carlos telling Sasha it isn't going to work between them. The dealbreaker? She doesn't like corndogs.

Good for you, Carlitos. Stick to your principles.

That felt like a very long episode. It took me two days to write this. I do like this episode, though I don't know if I would rank it in my favorites. The Katie and Bitters plotline was SO unnecessary, but I liked the guys' individual storylines. Surprisingly, I was never really a fan of "Boyfriend," back in the day, though the song has grown on me slightly after seeing it performed live.

I just checked and saw "Big Time Live" is next. I LOVED that episode and used to watch that one all the time. Can't wait to see it again.

BTR concert photo/video dump and notes

Hello, friends! As mentioned in my last post, I saw BTR this past weekend at their Mohegan Sun show. Decided to jot down as many things as I could remember after so I could share about it. So, here ya go!

● I got there late, so I missed Stephen's set, but I got to the arena just as he was finishing up a cover of "Pink Pony Club."

● Katelyn was adorable. She looks the same, and she started off her set with a cute joke about how she had "finally made it back from New Zealand."

● This was the guys' intro:

The energy in the arena was insane. It was packed and filled with fans of all ages. Mostly people in their 20s and 30s who have grown up with the show and their music. A decent amount of younger teens and little kids who have probably just discovered them in the last few years. And also some older adults who just have good taste in music :)

● I'm just now realizing that there's only 1 video allowed per post. Bummer. I'll make some separate posts with other videos mayhaps.

Anyway, some pics

● Will never get over how good their voices are live. You know when you see a band in concert and they're just...okay sounding? BTR sounds just as good (maybe better) live.

● Though the crowd went wild for all the guys, James consistently got the biggest reaction any time he did literally anything. When he spoke, when he sang solo, etc. Screams and shrieks and shouted declarations of love. I feel like this is on par with how the fandom has always been, to be honest. Back when the show was on, I felt like a Carlos girlie drowning in a sea of James stans, lol.

● Surprisingly enough, in terms of fans wearing the "I ❤️️ _____" shirts, Kendall apparently wins that category.

● Oh! Highlight of the night goes to the moment during "Halfway There" when the guys came out into the crowd, and Carlos ended up singing right beside me.

I was incredibly normal about this

● Also, his hat said "helmet." I loved it. Wish they had sold it in the merch store.

● There was this really cute video that played while the guys were backstage doing a quick change. It was them in an elevator, wearing bathrobes and discussing what they should wear next when they went out on stage. These were the options

Never thought I would see Bad Boy Kendall make an appearance again, but here we are

Also, shout out to the girl in the row behind me who, when this video came up, shouted "KENDALL'S BALD!!"

Yes. Yes, he is, honey. And he still looks incredible.

● Speaking of Kendall, he really is a joy to watch perform. I think he might be my favorite in terms of stage presence. He just looks so happy and in his element up there. I love him dearly.

● The "Shot in the Dark/Big Night" mashup? Amazing. I have a video of it that I'll try to post

● Additional shout out to Kendall for picking his Worldwide girl, getting her up on the stage, realizing the back of her shirt said "Henderson" and loudly declaring, "I've made a terrible mistake!"

● The acoustic "No Idea" was nice, but it just didn't hit the same without Kendall hitting those notes at the end. You know the ones.

● I couldn't tell what Logan was laughing at in these moments, but he was cracking up for a while, and it was cute

● Funny side note: I made the trip to see them into a mother/daughter weekend. My mom had fun at the casino while I went to the show, and afterward, she enjoyed sitting and watching the fans leave. But she was utterly perplexed by the amount of people wearing "hats with plants" on them. I then had to give her backstory on the TV show (which she isn't familiar with) and explain the whole tree hat thing.

● All in all, 10/10 show. I had such a blast. It's incredible to see a band that was such a big part of my younger years STILL together and putting on an incredible performance. Their bond and love for each other is so clear on stage and really adds to it all. And to see that they're not just maintaining fans but growing is also really cool.
