4. Mornings

Namjoon: Mornings together (like when you both have the day off) are meant for relaxation because they happen so infrequently. After a light breakfast, you both plop down on the couch, both with books in hand. You mostly read in silence, occasionally sharing a particularly poignant passage with the other. However, as time goes on, you find yourself taking secret glances at one another, noticing your small reactions (eyes widening, an eyebrow furrow, a nose scrunch) to whatever you’re reading. Eventually, your eyes finally meet. Namjoon sets his book aside (upside down so he does not lose his place) and stretches his arm out to you, inviting you into them. It’s time to take a break from your reading.

Jin: The rare, lazy Sunday morning with Jin is spent (to no one’s surprise) playing video games. Even though you’re half-awake - mind groggy, eyesight blurry - he is already tossing you a controller. “You know, a few rounds a day, keeps the doctor away,” he says in a sing-song voice. “I don’t think that’s the saying, Jin,” you rasp, but nonetheless you quickly find yourself immersed in the game. “No, press A, (Y/N), press A,” he half-shouts, reaching for your controller as if to do it himself. You hold the controller out of his reach, but still press the button, narrowly managing to save your team from losing the round. "Not bad," he says, sighing contentedly, as you wrap up playing. "What do you mean?" you ask. He nods at you. "Not bad for a noob," he replies.

Yoongi: As you slowly regain consciousness wake up, you do a quick scan of your body. Muscles sore. Dry mouth. Pounding headache. The night before, you had given it a valiant effort, but as evidenced by today, you still could not keep up with Yoongi when it came to drinking. As if he was reading your mind, he lets out a small chuckle. “How are you feeling?” he asks, gently, holding out a glass of water and aspirin. You gratefully take the medicine and shakily hand the glass back to him, before flopping back onto your bed with a groan. “You’re cute,” he says, chuckling again. You wave him off and he quietly leaves your bedroom to start breakfast for you - actually debating in his mind what is more fun, drinking with you or being able to take care of you the morning after.

Hoseok: When you open your eyes, you see he is already awake and out of bed. You find him in your living room, mid-flow of a morning salutation. Even from downward dog, he watches you pass him on your way to the couch. “Want to join?” he asks, already knowing the answer to his question. “Not today,” you reply politely. You go back and forth between scrolling on your phone and watching him - like always, impressed with his graceful movements. “You know, I could show you some fun poses,” he says eventually, breaking the silence. Without missing a beat, you quip back, “I think your idea of ‘fun poses’ and my idea of ‘fun poses’ are different, Hobi.” When you catch his eye, you wiggle your eyebrows, suggestively, causing him to laugh loudly and fall out of his pose.

Jimin: For most people, dawn is the start of their day. And yet, for you and Jimin, it is often the end of your night. “Bed?” he asks you, finally ready to let his exhaustion takeover, just as the sun begins to peek over the horizon. You shake your head. “Let’s watch the sunrise first,” you say. Always willing to give into your whims, he lets you lead him onto your apartment’s balcony. He wraps a heavy blanket around the both of you before you sit down. After sitting in comfortable silence for a while, he notices you begin to doze, your eyelids slowly closing. “This was your idea, and yet I’m the one still awake,” he teases you gently. You hum in response. He sighs, a soft smile appearing on his face. “At least put your head on my shoulder,” he whispers, pulling you closer.

Taehyung: He convinces you take an early morning walk with him, bribing you with coffee and kisses. You walk shoulder-to-shoulder, listening to him ramble on about aperture and exposure. When he stops occasionally to take a photo, you instinctively step aside to stay out of the photo frame. On a longer pause, your mind drifts, only being brought back to present by the shutter sound of his camera followed by a small giggle from him. “That wasn’t part of the deal, Tae,” you whine, knowing he just took a photo of you, “I look like a mess right now.” He pulls you into his arms with a large grin. “No, you don’t,” he insists, kissing your cheek, “You look beautiful.” Your cheeks flush red. “Let’s head back,” he adds, “We can order breakfast, and then cuddle the rest of morning.”

Jungkook: “KooKoo?” you call for him after waking up and realizing he is not beside you. “I’m here,” he replies, suddenly reappearing in your bedroom breathlessly, tray table in hand. “Breakfast in bed?” you question as you sit up, allowing him to set the tray (topped with your favorite breakfast foods) in front of you. “Why do you sound so surprised?” he replies, a goofy grin appearing on his face. “Well, I haven’t forgotten something, right?” you ask, trying to think of the day’s date. “Anniversary? Holiday?” He shakes his head before leaning in to give you a quick kiss. “No, don’t worry, this is just because,” he explains, stealing a strawberry from the tray. You thank him with another kiss and he urges you to dig in, handing you a fork, not wanting the food to get cold.

3. He confesses his feelings for you

Namjoon: "Please just spit it out, Joon," you finally say to him, your tone somewhat annoyed (while also still trying to be encouraging). For weeks, he had walked around looking like he was on the verge of saying something to you, but would always deny it if you asked him. This time, he looks away, chuckling nervously as he does. "Namjoon?" you try again, reaching for his hand, giving it a squeeze. A soft smile appears on his face as he gently squeezes your hand back. "I really like you, (Y/N)," he breathes, "As in, more than friends - I guess I've just been too nervous to say so."

Jin: You're woken up by your phone ringing in the middle of the night - Jin needed a ride home after a night of drinking with friends. When you get to him, a lopsided grin appears on his face as he throws a heavy arm around your shoulders. "Ah, (Y/N)," he exclaims, "Like a knight in shining armor rescuing his damsel in distress - oh, wait." By some miracle, you get him to your car but he begins refusing to buckle his seatbelt. "Why are you being such a brat?" you ask, only half amused. "I'll buckle up," he says, hiccupping once, "Once you tell me you like me back."

Yoongi: He tells you late one night, when you drop by his studio to bring him dinner. And he is so nonchalant about it that you almost miss his confession (a quick, “you know, I really like you”), your brain takes several seconds to catch up before truly realizing what he just said. With him being so casual, you decide to test the waters, hoping you had not misunderstood him. "You mean just as friends, right?" you ask with a raised eyebrow. With an incredulous look, he replies, "No, dummy - more than that. Can't you tell?" He acts as if his feelings for you were the most obvious thing in the world.

Hoseok: It didn’t matter how he planned on telling you because before he could, rumors started flying around social media after you were spotted having dinner together (at that point, just as friends). Feeling bad that you caused him any trouble, you started pulling away from him. But not hearing from you caused him to spiral. He shows up at your front door in the middle of night, pleading, “Would it be that bad if we were dating?” “No, it wouldn’t,” you admit, shyly, “But you don’t like me like that.” “What are you talking about, (Y/N)? Of course I do.”

Jimin: For weeks, you had teetered between just being friends and being something more than that. One night, you find yourself cuddling in your bed even though you had just invited him over for dinner. And while it felt so good being held him by, you couldn't take it anymore. "What's wrong?" he asks, delicately, when you sit up suddenly. "I really like you, Jimin," you admit, "But even with everything, I don't know how you feel about me - about us." Realizing he messed up by keeping you in limbo, he sits up, too, "Please believe me, I like you, (Y/N). I'm sorry for not telling you sooner."

Taehyung: Even though he was just telling you he liked you, he planned every detail out, hoping that this would be the perfect start to your relationship as partners. He invites you to take a nighttime walk along the river. As you walk side-by-side, he does his best to listen you talk about your day, but honestly, he is honed in on his mission. Suddenly, you stopped mid-sentence, distracted by him gently taking your hand in his. “Tae?” you question, definitely not opposed to holding hands, just surprised. "Sorry to interrupt," he says, chuckling nervously, "But I have to tell you, I really like you."

Jungkook: "Good job keeping up, (Y/N)," he says, jokingly, tossing you a granola bar as you rest momentarily, having just reached the summit during your sunrise hike. You roll your eyes, "You were struggling, too." You munch on the granola bar in comfortable silence, half immersed in your thoughts, half watching Bam (who came with you on every hike) curiously sniff a patch of grass. Jungkook catches your attention again by bumping your shoulder with his. "I really like this," he says, shyly. When you meet his gaze, he seemingly decides to amend his words, "Actually, I really like you."

2. He is different around you

Namjoon: He is more easy-going when he's around you. Being the leader of BTS, he is expected to always be 'on.' He has to always do the right thing, or say the right thing - all for the sake of BTS, which can be exhausting sometimes. While he prefers being in control, he likes when you take control, too, even over the smallest of things, like what you are having for dinner, or what movie you are going to watch together. He will always help you make larger decisions as a couple, but sometimes not having to think (even for just a few minutes) is such a relief to him.

Jin: He is more protective when he's with you. Because he is known for being the "funny one" of BTS, many people have come to believe he is incapable of being serious. But when it comes to you and your relationship, he is nothing but serious. To anyone or anything that tries to come in between you and him, good luck. While you do your best to always put on a brave face, he knows being with him is not easy. So the only way he knows how to make it up to you is he has always promised that he would do anything (seriously, anything) to make sure you are happy and healthy.

Yoongi: He is softer when he's with you - but you better not ever mention this to anyone, not even to the other members ("Don't you know I have a reputation to uphold?"). When he slips into being Suga or Agust D, he feels like he always has something to prove. He needs to do better, be better. But when he is with you, just as Yoongi, he allows you to chip away at his hard exterior. When he's with you, smiling becomes a little easier; laughing becomes a little easier. His worries about whether or not he is enough seems to go away, at least temporarily.

Hoseok: He is more open with you. For him, J-Hope has always been a perfectly curated version of him. That doesn't mean he is not being genuine or not acting with sincerity in front of Army - but he has done his best to show only the best, most positive parts of him to the public. But when it comes to you, you know every part of him, even what he considers the bad parts. You have spent countless evenings cuddled in his bed, blankets pulled over your heads, where he has whispered every secret, worry, and fear he has ever felt. He does not want to hide from you.

Jimin: He is more free when he's with you. In public, he aims to always be seen as confident, in control, and polished. However, even after all these years, he can always feel the insecurity burning in his chest - do I look OK? Did I perform well? Do they like me? However, when he is with you, these worries seem to dissipate. He never has to question how you feel about him, nor does he worry about you silently judging him. Sometimes, he is still taken aback by how much you love and care for him, but nevertheless he is so grateful for how at ease you make him feel.

Taehyung: Out of all the members, his public persona and private self seems like they would be most aligned. However, when you began dating, he did his best to dial back his "4D personality" because he was afraid he would scare you off. At some point, he mentioned to you his wish to just be normal. To which you fired back, "what does normal even mean?" You make him feel seen. He always longed for someone to accept every piece of him, and throughout your relationship, you have done that without question.

Jungkook: When he is with you, he does his best to be more diligent. As he has gotten older, the more of a free spirit he seems to have become. He will do things on a whim. He can be described as random. However, he knows those characteristics do not always translate to being a good partner. While it may feel impossible sometimes, he does his best to make things easier for you. When he is home, he will cook for you; complete chores you have been putting off; and run errands for you. He will do anything to help you not feel burdened.

1. How he looks at you

Namjoon: Like you’re the answer to everything - He had always devoured books at lightning speed, which he rationalized as his way of searching for answers to make sense of this crazy, fucked up world. Yet, now, when he looks at you, everything seems to fall in place. With you in front of him, a wave of relief and contentment envelops him. To him, everything seems calmer, orderly, sensible. He realizes he had been looking for answers in the wrong places this whole time. "How do you do it?" he eventually asks you one evening after you catch him staring. When you ask him what he means, he expands, "Make me feel like everything is going to be OK."

Jin: With tears in his eyes - With his schedule, it had been a few days since you last saw one another. So when you were finally able to spend an evening together, he brought with him an arsenal of jokes -knock-knock jokes, puns, nothing was off the table - he had been saving these jokes just for you. As he fired them off, you gave him your best, polite laugh (even when they were actually funny, you held back, not wanting to boost his ego too much). However, when he turned to you to truly gauge your approval of the jokes, you could see tears welling up in his eyes. Of course he would make himself cry from laughing so hard at his own jokes.

Yoongi: With sleepy eyes - It is no surprise to you when you find his side of your shared bed empty at 3 a.m. After slipping out of bed, you find him hunched over his computer, brooding over contemplating a melody that came to him when he was in a half-awake/half-asleep state. As you move to stand next to him, gently putting a hand on his shoulder, he turns and looks at you with heavy eyes. Most nights, he would send you back to bed, promising that he would only be five more minutes. But tonight, he takes your hand and lets you lead him back to bed. "Everything will be still here after you get some sleep," you promise him.

Hoseok: With a knowing look - Even in the busiest, most crowded places - when you are across the room from one another - you and Hoseok have learned to communicate effectively with your eyes. "You good? I'm good." "Time to go." "What even just happened?" "Can you believe this person?" All messages sent and received with a quick glance at one another. No one else notices these looks. They are just for you and him. And you always revisit the latter looks after you have left wherever you're coming from. Nearly bursting from having to hold it in, he will need to gossip debrief to make sure you got the same read on the person and/or situation in question.

Jimin: With passion and desire - It started with quick glances from across the table as you, he, and your friend group had dinner together. As the night wore on, his eyes lingered more. At one point, as you talked with your friend sitting next to you, you could feel him undressing you with his eyes. You did your best to not acknowledge him (as it would only encourage him), but your ears began turning red, giving you away. When you got home, he pulled you into his arms immediately. He nuzzled his face into your neck before peppering soft kisses across your collarbones. "Did I tell you how beautiful you looked tonight?" he whispered.

Taehyung: With love, that's it - Is that him, or the heart eyes emoji personified? Because when he looks at you, there really is no difference. When you began dating, the way he looked at you would turn your cheeks red as butterflies fluttered in your stomach. You had never felt such intensity so it took a while to get used to, but now you do your best to return such looks. Everything he does (from how he looks at you; to what he says to you; to what he does for you), he does with the intention of making sure you feel loved by him. And when you question if you are doing enough to make him feel loved, he does not hesitate to say, "You are everything to me."

Jungkook: In awe, with wonderment - He always catches you off-guard when you find him staring at you with his brown, boba eyes. "What?" you ask him, gently. "Nothing," he says, quickly looking away. But after thinking about it for a moment, he looks back at you, "You know you're amazing, right?" This conversation is a common occurrence in your relationship - it comes after you cook his favorite meal; after you get a nearly perfect score during one of your karaoke session; after you throw a quick, neat jab when he has asked you to be his sparring partner. You always take him by surprise, in the best way possible.

Note: It has been such a long time since I've tried writing a preference/reaction/imagine. Scrolling through Tumblr, so much has changed, but I wanted to give writing a try again. Let me know if you would like more. I will gladly take requests (I prefer writing fluff). xx
