November 26, 1944
Officer Watanabe's tent was halfway to the path towards the airplane hangar. As an important high ranking officer whose work was geared to nothing but making sure the planes will fly, he was granted full autonomy on where to stay, what to have in his quarters and how far he wanted to be from the hangar and the camp. However, being the dutiful and disciplined officer that he is, Watanabe only had a small, bell tent instead of the huge octagonal tent the other officers had. The tent was so inconspicuous that it would hardly be seen unless the lights were turned from the inside.
Of course, Jun-seok knew where it was. Every time he passed it going to the hangar and back to camp, he always wanted to go in to see the place of the officer he has grown to respect and care about. Watanabe has changed his view of Japanese people so much and wished there were more men like him.
Jun-seok carefully opened the flap of Watanabe's tent and slowly reached around for the gas lamp. Though the moon was out, it was still pretty dark as he forgot his flashlight in his quarters in their mad rush to leave. But he eventually found it and slowly turned it on illuminate the tent.
She went to sit on Watanabe's chair near a small desk and quietly looked around the small space. Jun-seok closed the tent and found another seat next to her and sat down. They looked at their surroundings which was filled with Watanabe's things. "He loves to read a lot, doesn't he?", she asked. Jun-seok nodded in agreement as they were both looking at a thin rack filled with books and more books could be found inside a box beside the Officer's bed.
She stood up and pulled off a book from the rack which had a little girl in a kimono walking along the shore. "This looks interesting. What is this book?", she asked Jun-seok.
He knew she was making light discussion as a means of distraction from her feelings and rather than ask her how she was doing, he said: "It's called The Dancing Girl of Izu. It's about this sad, young student who visits the Izu Peninsula for summer holiday and meets this young girl who is with her family that are musicians. They help distract him from his melancholia and make him feel relieved with all the time, attention and effort they provide to be with him."
"Huh, I didn't expect Watanabe-san to be into this kind of whimsy.", she contemplated. "How come you know the book's story? Are you into reading too?"
"Oh, no, no, no...", Jun-seok shook his hands in protest. "I just know it because it's a popular book and there's a movie of it."
Her eyes grew wide and clutched the book more in her hands. "I love to read but to know there's a movie of this is fantastic. I love the movies!"
Jun-seok smiled as he saw her smiling again and being animated as she shared the story of an American movie she saw years ago. When she's like this, he thought, I can't stop marveling at her beauty and everything about her.
"Jin-seok, if the war ends, will you take me to the movies?", she asked jokingly.
"I'll take you anywhere you want to go, jagiya.", he blurted out. He suddenly realized what he said and started to blush. "Jun-seok, your ears are turning red. Hahaha! What does jagiya mean? It's not Japanese.", she asked with a laugh.
"Ohhh... it means, um... honey.", Jun-seok muttered under his breath. She asked him to repeat it as she didn't hear and this made him blush even more.
When she understood what he said, it made her smile. "I like being called that, Jin-seok."
He looked up to her and reach out for her hands. "Then I'll call you that all the time then."
He was about to reach out to kiss her when he heard the flap of the tent being opened and saw Watanabe-san come in.
*****
It was after midnight when they settled in the wooden house that was near the perimeter line close to the coffee fields. They used the shed to store digging equipment but there was some hay and some space to place sleeping bags in so they could sleep. This was the only place Watanabe could think of that Jun-seok and her could stay at for the night and hopefully the Captain and Shosa would be back the next day so they could send her home.
It wasn't the best of decisions in Jun-seok's mind but he knew it was for the best that she went back home. The Shosa just had to face the consequences of telling the Mayor about her cousin and hopefully he would still cooperate. She did promise though she would convince her father. "Jin-seok, you know I don't approve of this war and what it's doing to my countrymen but... if it will burden you less and not get you in trouble, I'll do it.", she said out loud for Watanabe to hear. Watanabe raised one eyebrow in contemplation about her statement and Jun-seok just chose to ignore his stares at him.
Now that they were at the house, he realized it might be the last time he would see her. With a heavy heart, he wished he could do anything to keep her with him.
He laid out the sleeping bags they had that Watanabe brought. His tent was too small to keep them with him so he had to give Jun-seok the keys to the small house. "Leave as early as you can tomorrow morning before Akagi's or any other troops arrive for surveillance of the perimeter. We've been getting less attacks lately so hopefully they don't pass by too early.", Watanabe advised.
"Are you comfortable there?", Jun-seok asked as she worked on getting inside the sleeping bag. "Yes, I'm ok I think. It's just really hot inside this sleeping bag.", she said.
He agreed as the wooden house was filled with things and with it's low ceiling, air wasn't circulating as much compared to if they were in their tent back at camp.
"Jin-seok, I am not going into this sleeping bag today. It's just too hot.", she said. "Alright, so am I. If we were back in our quarters, it would definitely be cool."
Feeling quite hot and not thinking, Jun-seok took off his long sleeve uniform top and was left with his pants on. He wiped away the sweat from his neck, back and chest with his handkerchief and was about to stand up to hang his shirt somewhere when he looked towards her.
She was sitting up and awake, looking at him. Her eyes trailed to his chest and his shoulders and she slightly bit her lower lip. Jun-seok could see her long hair trailing at her back as she already took off the ponytail keeping her hair together and with the minimal moonlight from the small window, he could see the outline of her breasts from her shirt.
His eyes locked with hers and he moved to her side and pulled her into his arms. He kissed her passionately and held the back of her head in place so he could kiss her deeply. His tongue pushed into her mouth and he could taste her lips. Her scent was driving him crazy and he wanted so much to be enveloped by her hair, her breasts, her legs. Something animalistic was making him want to meld with her body more than anything in this world.
He laid her down and started kissing her neck. He could hear her soft moans as he started kissing and licking her neck and ears. He touched her breasts and liked it that they were just right and fit in his palm. He licked her nipples which made her shriek softly. He wanted to hear her moan and sigh some more and it didn't long for his hand to find his way in between her legs.
He never envisioned that he would be have sex in camp. He always thought his first time in a while would be with a slave or comfort woman but that thought was not appealing to him even before. He had urges but it wasn't urgent enough that it had to be relieved by a woman who clearly didn't want to do it. He believed in love and this woman with him now was definitely worth all the time he didn't give in to his urges.
First touch of her mound and he knew she was wet. She moaned and even said the word jagiya to him as he slowly used his fingers to massage her clit and circle around the hole of her vagina. He looked at her face as he did it, feeling himself totally stiff as she looked at him with desire and he pushed his fingers in to feel the warm, moist cum inside her.
He couldn't wait and went on top of her and pushed her legs apart. He then saw her face look slightly concerned. So, it's her first time, he thought. "Jagiya, are you a virgin?", he asked.
She nodded slowly, embarrassed and worried about it. "I will be gentle. Just let me know if I should stop.", Jun-seok assured her.
She nodded and smiled at him, ready to take him in. He slid his penis in the folds of her vagina and he could feel the tightness gripping his shaft. She let out a soft whimper as he pushed little by little. He could feel her tightness enveloping his shaft more and it made him crazy feeling her wetness, her tightness all around him like a vise.
He pulled out a bit and pushed again and she let out a pained shriek that made him stop and push up to look at her. Her face showed she was in pain but she never asked him to stop. Jun-seok found her to be so beautiful in keeping up with the pain for his pleasure that he kissed her deeply, saying sorry.
"Don't stop, jagiya.", she said in between his kisses. "I want you to go on. I don't want anyone else to break me except you. I trust you."
Her encouragement tugged in him so much that he kissed her more and he thrusted in deeper. He could feel her loosen and inside she was still really tight in there which felt so good that he wanted nothing more but to thrust in her again and again.
She then wrapped her legs around his lower back and started to make little moans as he moved in and out of her. Feeling the ecstacy after breaking, she started to hug him closer to her. "Jagiya, push faster. It feels so good."
He was so close to cumming but he was trying to hold off as he wanted to savor every minute of her skin, of her sex and her warmth. He kneeled and grabbed her bottom to prop her up closer to his penis and started fucking her faster.
He saw her clutching her hair in one hand and her breast in the other as he pumped her hard. She tried her best to be quiet but he knew she would moan louder with each thrust he did. He got her shirt and gave it to her and she instinctively knew what to do. She placed some of it in her mouth to muffle her moans. Seeing her face, trying her best not to scream, having that shirt in her mouth made him cum so much that he filled her up and had more to spread on her navel. She took out the shirt from her mouth and smiled at him.
He lied down beside her as she lay there, naked, motionless, breathing heavily. The sweat in her forehead and upper lip was shining in the moonlight, her breasts heaving as she breathed slowly. In that instance, there was only one thing running in Jun-seok's head as he watched her bask in pleasure. "Mine."

I've read a couple of btsimagines from other writers and I truly appreciate how quick they can get on to the smut and sex and do a banging job at it. I tend to write really slow and have so much of a build up before it gets to the sex. So apologies if this has been such a long story with Jin. I've been at this for more than 2 years I think and it's still not done. I already have ideas for a Joonie story and a Hobi story but I just have to get over this hurdle of the story arc with Jin so I can finally complete it. To my small readership who's been waiting, got bored waiting and still read what little I got to churn out... thank you so much for staying. I will get to the last few chapters of this, I promise.

Kismet (Chapter 26) : A BTS Jin imagines fanfic

November 25, 1944
Three days have passed and so far, she seems to be safe. Jun-seok felt a sense of dread every time he went to the hangar to work on the planes and always had her in the back of his mind. He already sent word to Captain Yuzawa about the situation but he left camp with the Shosa to check on another town which was rumored to harbor rebels. He knew it would still take them a couple of days to get back as the town was near the mountains so he just had to wait. It was difficult sitting on his hands and doing nothing while waiting for word on where to move her but he had no choice. Even Officer Watanabe was aware that he was worried and as soon as he was done working, he always told Jun-seok to go back to camp right away.
He had to rely on Minoru to be ready to help in case anything happened. Seeing that the man already had an affinity with her, Jun-seok hoped he wouldn’t run away if trouble happened and she would get hurt. Minoru also didn’t have anyone else to help him.
Minoru kept his Nambu 8mm pistol under his apron for the past few days, in case things get heated. “I really hope I don’t need to use this, Ittohei.”, he said to Jun-seok. “But I don’t want her getting hurt either. Please find a way to move her somewhere else quicker. The longer she stays here, the more the soldiers will think its ok to harm her. She’ll be thought of as a helper or a comfort woman if she continues to stay here.”
Jun-seok got pissed as he was working on a plane’s left slats while remembering what Minoru said. He was getting impatient and wasn’t sure of what to do and he knew that the soldiers could do as they please to a comfort woman. It didn’t matter if the soldier was Japanese or Korean. Both had every “right” to do what they want with a comfort woman. This was the reason she never wanted to go out of the kitchen. There were a couple of comfort women brought into camp every now and then. It was painful also for Jun-seok to see the women being mistreated, abused and sometimes looking like they were left for dead.
“Ittohei, I can hear you gritting your teeth from here.”, Officer Watanabe shouted. Jun-seok got startled and shook him from his thoughts. “Gomen nasai, Yakuin!”, Jun-seok shouted and bowed low to the officer.
Officer Watanabe blew a raspberry, waved his hand and motioned Jun-seok to stop bowing as he walked to him. “Up, Ittohei. You know I’m not so comfortable with that when it comes to you. We’re almost the same age!”, Watanabe said in a low voice. “I accept that from all the shonens (young boys) here because they don’t work on these planes as good as you.” Watanabe gave Jun-seok a quick wink and a smirk which brought out the officer’s best feature - his dimple.
Jun-seok smiled and wondered if the officer was really an officer and a Japanese one at that because he certainly didn’t act like his peers or superiors. His easy-going attitude totally contradicts with the persona he shows as a smart and stern officer, which is most evident when he takes long-legged strides in walking.
“Now I know you’re worried. I am too. But we can’t stop working on these planes more than ever.”, Watanabe said in a serious tone. “I’m confident Captain Yuzawa will move her right away to a safer place once he gets back.”
Jun-seok nodded in agreement half-heartedly. He knew Watanabe was helping him relax and focus on work but he couldn’t help it. He wished he could transport himself now in the kitchen, just to check if she’s ok.
“How about we go back in hour so we can sample some of Minoru-san’s oden soup? I heard he was able to get good fish from the fishermen the other day and he took a lot of time to make oden.”, Watanabe said again with a wink.
Jun-seok smiled and gave him two thumbs up.
*****
The sweat was in his eyes and brow but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was he gets to camp as fast as he can.
He heard Watanabe running behind him, his breath sounding labored with each step. His sword and sheath wasn’t very long but it was making a clapping sound on the side of Watanabe’s right leg as he was running. Jun-seok’s heart was beating so quickly that his ears were ringing but he knew he had to get there quicker.
After overhearing some of the new soldiers in the hanger coming back from the dinner rush to work on the planes for the night, he knew that she was danger.
He quickly told Watanabe what he heard and the officer went to the two new soldiers who were talking.
“Heitai (soldier)! Tell me exactly what you were talking about. Is it about some woman?”
The soldier was stunned to be addressed so sternly by Watanabe that he stuttered as he spoke. “We, we, were ju-just laughing about the woman they found in the kitchen. They said she’s very pretty... the other soldiers wanted to know how she tastes...”
“Which soldiers?”, Watanabe angrily asked.
The other soldier spoke up in a higher tone, eager to answer the officer right away. “Kankoku no heishi, Yakuin! (Korean soldiers, Officer!).”
*****
As soon as he opened the tent flap to the kitchen, he saw at four soldiers huddled over a person on the floor. They were kicking the man and laughed so hard while the man had blood coming out of his mouth. Closest to the shelves of pots and pans, he saw her being held by another soldier from behind while another soldier was holding up her chin to face him.
Jun-seok felt his blood boil seeing her crying though angry at the soldier who was holding on to her chin. He was about to run towards the soldier but Watanabe held his shoulder and shouted “Yamero! (stop it)”.
The four soldiers stopped hurting the man on the ground and the soldier holding her chin turned around. Jun-seok gritted his teeth when he recognized the soldier with her. Lt. Akagi smirked, let go of her chin and stood there holding onto his pistol on the side.
Officer Watanabe unsheathed his sword and pointed it at the group of soldiers. Jun-seok was impressed by the sword he was holding. It was a shin gunto, a new military officer’s sword that was styled like the traditional swords during the 1300s. It had a blue and brown tassel at the hilt which signified Watanabe’s rank as Warrant Officer.
Watanabe looked like a steely Japanese Officer as he held the blade, surveying the four soldiers and Lt. Akagi, who came closer to him.
“Why did you beat up this soldier?”, he asked the group of soldiers pointedly. “Is he still alive?”
One of the four soldiers kicked Minoru’s arm and he flinched. Lt. Akagi laughed and said, “See? He’s still breathing. He was dumb to interfere.”
“Interfere with what exactly, Lt. Akagi?”, Watanabe asked.
Lt. Akagi crossed his arms in front of Watanabe, obviously not respecting the Japanese officer. “Well, he was harboring a slave of the camp in the kitchen for himself and I think we all deserve to relieve ourselves for our health and wellbeing. Isn’t that what the women are good for here?”
Jun-seok was looking at her worriedly as she was crying quietly while the soldier holding onto her held her mouth shut. She then looked at him, her eyes now looking scared and longing to run to him. The angry stare she had for Lt. Akagi was gone and was replaced with fear.
Watanabe nodded at Akagi’s comment and took a few seconds to respond back. “I get what you mean but she’s not a slave. She is a guest of the Shosa and Captain Yuzawa.”
“But why would a guest stay here in the kitchen? She is nothing but a slave. Isn’t she the woman who I allowed to live that day? She should be grateful that she’s still alive and serve her masters!”, Lt. Akagi exclaimed. His statement made the other soldiers laugh.
“I don’t think you allowed her to live, Lt. Akagi. The General stopped you, remember?”, Watanabe said and he smiled when he saw Lt. Akagi grit his teeth in annoyance. “True, she should be somewhere else and not in the kitchen but she wanted to help the cook as loyalty to the Shosa and the General. It’s part of the war effort as her father is the Mayor after all.”
Lt. Akagi said a tsk in annoyance and shucked his teeth. He understood that he would get in more trouble if he hurt the woman and he might be sent to the pit again. He looked at the soldier holding onto her and nodded his head. The soldier let go of her and she kneeled on the floor, crying softly.
“Did the cook fight you four soldiers? I’m sure he was quite a threat since four soldiers were needed to beat him. He must’ve been difficult to deal with!”, Watanabe shouted. The other soldiers started to step away from Minoru and bowed their heads in front of Watanabe.
“Ittohei, check on the cook.”, Watanabe ordered. Jun-seok went to Minoru and checked his wounds. His face was black and blue in some parts and he had dark bruises on his stomach and legs. He coughed up some blood but most of the blood came from a gash on his forehead. Minoru coughed, looked at Jun-seok with one of his bruised eyes. He nodded and held onto Jun-seok’s arm, muttering she’s ok, she’s ok.
Watanabe, with his sword now pointed at Lt. Akagi, looked at the soldier intently. “Lt, Akagi, you and your troop almost killed a fellow soldier and hurt a guest. I will report this to Captain Yuzawa and the Shosa and I suggest you think of what to tell them about this when they come back. In the meantime, you and your troop are not allowed in the kitchen and the mess hall. You will only have meals once a day. You are to dig the trench on the north side of the camp and will not stop until the Captain and Shosa are back. Is that understood?”
Lt. Akagi, teeth gritting, bowed in response. The other soldiers bowed as well and said Hai (yes) to Watanabe. They then left the kitchen, muttering and cursing under their breath.
Jun-seok stood up and went to her. She had her face in her hands, crying and shuddering when Jun-seok touched her shoulders. “It’s alright, I’m here. They’re gone.”, Jun-seok comforted her. She wasn’t saying anything but then she reached out and hugged Jun-seok which startled him. He held her close but he was conscious of Officer Watanabe’s reaction.
Watanabe, however, was too busy speaking to Minoru and helping him stand.
“Ittohei... escort her to my quarters. I will bring Minoru to the medics. Wait for me to get back so we can figure out where to keep her.”
Jun-seok let go of her and faced Watanabe. He saw that Minoru slung his arm on Watanabe and limped with a hop as Watanabe walked. “Do you need my help, Yakuin?”, Jun-seok asked.
“Call any soldier outside to wait for us to come out so he can help us. I’d rather we’re on the way to the medic so you can both go to my quarters. The soldiers will have their attention on us than you.”
Jun-seok nodded and went out to call a soldier. After giving the soldier instructions, he called the officer to come out of the kitchen tent. Minoru looked back at Jun-seok, nodding his head as a sign of thanks. Jun-seok bowed low to Minoru and Watanabe, saying a stern “domo arigato gozaimasu” to them before he went back inside.
She looked up at him when he went to her, eventually giving out a short wail and hugged him after. He held her tightly and stroked her back, fixed her hair while she cried and screamed on his chest. He held her tighter as she screamed to muffle the sound.
“Are you hurt anywhere?”, Jun-seok asked after a few minutes.
“No, they didn’t get to do anything to me other than make me cry and angry.”
Jun-seok gave a weak smile and touched her face. “I’m so, so sorry this happened. I knew I shouldn’t have left you here alone. Minoru-san is hurt and you are not safe... this is all my fault.”
She shook her head no and held his hands. “No, it’s not your fault, Jin-seok. They were just cruel and savage people. I feel bad for Minoru. He held them off best as he could that’s why they didn’t touch me.”
Jun-seok saw her face of disgust as she said: “Akagi is a despicable creature who finds joy in hurting and killing others. I wish I took one of the kitchen knives so I could've stabbed him.”
“If you did that, he would’ve killed you or one of the soldiers did.”, Jun-seok said sternly. “I know you hate him but you can’t get in danger like that. He won’t show mercy.”
“I know, Jin-seok. But my cousin...”, she said angrily. “What I would give to see him die.”
Jun-seok hugged her again to comfort and pacify her. He knew that she was capable of exacting revenge on Lt. Akagi if the opportunity arose but it would be dangerous and she might be killed as well after. It was best for her to leave camp so she wouldn’t get into trouble with Akagi or any of the other soldiers.
“I think we should tell the Captain that you should go home.”, Jun-seok said though he wish he could take it back.
She looked at him for a moment in silence and he knew she was contemplating things. “But I won’t see you if I go home. I want to be with you, Jin-seok.”
This warmed Jin-seok’s heart so much that he brought her close to kiss her. He could feel her soft lips on his and this gave him a surge within to keep her close and keep her safe.
Jun-seok stopped kissing her and said, “Let’s figure this out. Even if you go home, I’m sure we can still see each other. For now, let’s go to Yakuin’s quarters and think of what to do.”
She nodded and stood up, holding his hand tightly as she allowed him to lead her outside quietly that night.

Kismet (Chapter 25) : A BTS Jin imagines fanfic

November 22, 1944
Jun-seok was standing in the same lobby area of the government office he visited last time to see Captain Yuzawa. He was quietly admiring the paintings of people farming the fields in all bright colors of blue, red, green, yellow and brown. There was also a big painting of children playing a game with a ball and the faces of the children were very happy. He looked outside and could see that the road was deserted except for the random cat or dog passing by.
Life is certainly not imitating art right now, Jun-seok thought as he casually walked around to look at the photos hanging on the wall. He saw a large black and white photo of Emperor Hirohito on horseback. He has seen several photos of the Emperor riding his white horse, either in an American suit or in full military regalia. This photo was of an unsmiling man in military gear, looking straight at the camera. Jun-seok wondered how he looked like if he smiled. He’ll probably look a little creepy, he thought. Since there were never any photos of the Emperor smiling, it would definitely be odd to see him smile at all.
A soldier calls out his name to let him know that he can go inside to meet Captain Yuzawa. Knowing that he would have quite an intense discussion, he takes a deep breath before going in.
Jun-seok sees Captain Yuzawa speaking to the Shosa who had a cigar in his mouth and looking out the window. The expression the Shosa’s face was quite grim and Jun-seok knew it was because of the attacks from both the rebels and the Americans coming from the South. Jun-seok was hoping that what he would share would at least sound like good news for the Shosa.
“Ah, at ease, Sakurai-san.”, the Shosa said to him. The Shosa then took the seat the Captain offered to him at his table and the Captain pointed at the other seat so Jun-seok can sit.
“So... how is she? Do you think she’ll be leaving or escaping the camp?”, the Shosa asked. “No, sir. We had a good discussion yesterday and she has no intention of leaving unless we let her go, Shosa. She said she would rather you let her know that she’s free to go. As long as we keep her father safe, she can remain in camp for as long as we want her to.”
The Shosa’s expression was that of surprise just as much as the Captain’s was of curiosity. “It’s interesting that she says this... I expected her to at least demand to see her father. Good work, Ittohei Sakurai.”
“Thank you, sir.”, Jun-seok replied, quite pleased that the Shosa seemed satisfied with his answer. The Shosa asked more questions about her and her daily activities and Jun-seok shared what she was doing and how she was so far.
“I didn’t get a chance to visit her anymore but I will soon. She needs to know little by little what’s going on and why she needs to stay with us.”, the Captain said.
Jun-seok made a smirk when Captain Yuzawa was speaking. She’s way ahead of you, boss, he thought to himself. After all the pointed questions she asked him a few days ago, she already figured out everything and didn’t really need convincing anymore.
“So, there’s another reason why we wanted you to come here.”, Captain Yuzawa said. “Lt. Akagi is getting better and he we will be back soon. We wanted to have him moved to another camp but with the tensions happening around our borders, we can’t have him moved. We also need him since there are reports from the main city that the Americans have been in contact with the rebel forces and there are plans of attacking the closest bases near the capital. We maybe a little far but we can’t be too sure.”
“How goes your connections with Akagi’s troop?”, the Shosa asked pointedly.
This question definitely made Jun-seok nervous as he hasn’t had a chance to connect with any of them ever since. He was too busy spending time with the planes and her that he failed to at least meet them at the mess hall and get them to talk to him. Lying through his teeth, he said: “I’ve spoken to a few of them but they seem to be a little aloof. I’ll try harder to speak with them again.”
The Captain shucked his teeth and looked at Jun-seok quite sternly. “Don’t forget that this is why we brought you here, Ittohei. It would really be a shame if you don’t get them on your side because if they further do stupid things, we are not going to get those coffee fields for the planes you’ve been lovingly working on.”
Feeling hot under the collar, Jun-seok nodded immediately and muttered yes sir while he looked at the Captain’s intense gaze. Sure, they gave him the sole responsibility of looking after her but they definitely expect a lot more on his skills and heritage in connecting with the other Korean soldiers.
“Well, let us know how you progress on this, Ittohei. Lt. Akagi will be back in 2 weeks or so, depending on how fast he heals. I heard he’s been itching to go back to camp but he’s not totally healed yet. That determination despite upsetting the General really is putting a fire under his ass to prove the General wrong.”
Jun-seok nodded and knew that he had to really grab the chance to meet the other soldiers or else.
*****
The mess hall wasn’t exactly a hall as it was just a big tent where all the soldiers went to for meals. A lot of times the soldiers would grab some food and go back to their own tents or they would stay and eat with their comrades but never stay longer than necessary. So, turnover in terms of seating was quite fast and it didn’t always stay full for long. But dinner became quite busy for the cook as the soldiers would usually come together and spend more time talking with each other while eating.
Jun-seok told her that he was eating dinner with the other soldiers that night. She casually said ok but he could hear in her voice that she was a bit disappointed. She also sounded a little nervous about something but Jun-seok couldn’t figure out why. He knew that he should make up for it and knew the best way how. He took note that before they slept, he would give her a surprise.
When he entered the big tent, he saw that most of the soldiers were either seated and eating or in line to get food. He was looking around while making his way to the line when he spotted the Korean troops from Lt. Akagi’s platoon. They were quite boisterous compared to the Japanese soldiers and only because they were all of the same level. The officers were not around and since they were pretty close knit, they were quite noisy at their table. The Japanese soldiers were minding their own business but they gave them snide looks every now and then, especially when they were laughing loudly with their mouths wide open, filled with food.
Jun-seok noticed though that there were a few new soldiers in the other table that seem to be part of the same troop. He decided to bring his food there as there was still space at their table.
“Ijalie anj-eul su iss-eulkkayo? (Can I sit here)”, Jun-seok asked the muscular, young soldier. The soldier looked at him with apprehension while the one beside him had a quizzical look, assessing him. Jun-seok was concerned that he may have dug his own grave by asking these soldiers his question in Korean and they are actually Japanese. He was about to translate it in Nihonggo, until the other soldier said “Al-ass-eo! (okay)” in an accommodating tone.
Jun-seok sighed and sat down. Good thing they’re Korean or else I would’ve been demoted or worse, he thought. He took a bite of food from his rice bowl and introduced himself to them using his Korean name. Since the other table was so loud, the Japanese soldiers didn’t hear him.
“I’m Park Min-ju and this is Jeong Jung-ho.”, the accommodating soldier said. The muscular soldier grunted as he was busy finishing his rice ball. “We just got here last week and we’ve been doing so many things! Aigoo, our backs and necks hurt so much.” Min-ju started patting his neck and making pained sounds as he did it.
“Not me...”, muttered Jung-ho in between bites. “Ah, ye, you’re not tired because look at you, all buff and full of muscle. I’m not cut out for hard labor like this but what can I do? But if I want money, this is the best way how.”, Min-ju complained but talked softly as he was concerned the other soldiers might hear.
Jun-seok laughed a bit and nodded his head. “I understand. Family brought me here too and if it wasn’t for that, I really wouldn’t be here.”
The three of them had dinner and eventually talked about many things in slightly hushed tones as some of the officers started to come in for dinner. He was able to know of their background and what was going on in the tents of Lt. Akagi’s troops. He found out from them that the troops were eager to see Lt. Akagi again since there were rumors of the rebels closing in and even banter of revolting against the Japanese.
“Personally, I think it’s stupid they think they can overthrow the Japanese soldiers here. I’m quite scared of being with the other soldiers. They all seem to have gone through a lot of battles already. I want to try to stay alive...”, Min-ju said quietly.
“Why are you not part of our troop? You’re Korean and it’s our first time to see you here.”, Jung-ho asked, looking at Jun-seok skeptically.
“Ah, I work in the airplane hangers with Officer Watanabe. But I’ve been feeling tired being with him and the rest of the technicians... all work and all Japanese. Been meaning to be with my kind.”, Jun-seok replied. He figured if he had to get close to Akagi’s group, he best show he was ready to integrate with them. If it meant putting Officer Watanabe down, he had no choice.
“Waaaaaa... look at you, lucky for not being part of the infantry.”, Min-ju chided. “Sure, you can definitely hang with us but are there any additional perks being part of the Aircraft troops? I’m sure you get some different rations.” Min-ju said while Jung-ho nodded.
Man, these guys sure like playing games... alright, I can definitely roll with this, Jun-seok thought. It’s true that they were given a few different rations than the Infantry. Part of it was to ensure they were taken care of and worked on the planes as long as possible as they were needed more than ever in the war. It was also a means to get them to be loyal - enough that they may need to fly the planes as well once all pilots are expended. Kamikaze was not far off a possibility if the fight was not turning out well.
“Sure, I can bring some tomorrow. They gave us some packs of Morinaga Choice.”, Jun-seok replied.
Jung-ho’s eyes went wide and started nodding yes to this reply. Min-ju started clapping and patted Jun-seok’s back. “That’s the best news I heard all day, Ittohei. This experience is finally getting better!’
Jun-seok smiled and continued eating. He knew he had to ask for more special rations if he had to win these guys over. Good thing he had a direct line to the Shosa to get just that.
*****
He was on the way to his quarters when he heard the cook call out his name.
Minoru Yuto was a quiet soldier; interested more in cooking than guns, fighting or anything else for that matter. He’s been able to keep a low profile just cooking and bringing out the food during meal times and would quietly retire to his quarters once meals were done being served. He always declined help from the other soldiers as he considered his kitchen his area of solitude and he knows where everything is. So when he first met her, he was quite annoyed of her questions and being overly disruptive (as he put it) to his work. But when she started to learn the recipes quickly and helped him better, Minoru started to appreciate her more and found that her help made him finish cooking quicker. Having Jun-seok help out too was more than enough to put a smile in Minoru’s face each time.
“Hai, Yuto-san. Sore wa nanda ka?”, Jun-seok asked what’s up when he approached. Yuto had a seriously worried face and looked around before he spoke softly. “We had a problem earlier, Sakurai-san. I think you need to move her to a different place soon.”
Minoru told him when they were preparing for dinner, one of the soldiers went inside the kitchen looking for a condiment. He was one of the persistent ones who kept nagging that Minoru’s cooking was too bland. He wanted some Karashi, a Japanese mustard since they didn’t get Kimchi delivered to the barracks.
Minoru kept asking him to leave as he was still busy cooking the soup and pointed at the Karashi bottle in one of the shelves and told the soldier to get it and get out. The soldier nagged him again, took the bottle but clumsily swiped the other items in the shelf which included some pots that fell. The commotion made her come out of Jun-seok’s quarters, checking if Minoru was alright.
Oh no, Jun-seok thought. That’s why she was worried earlier but didn’t tell me. “Yuto-san, was it one of the Korean soldiers from Akagi’s troops that saw her?”
Minoru nodded. He said that the soldier was surprised to see her, asked Minoru who she was and was about to go to her. Minoru stepped in and told the soldier that she was the helper he hired from the village. “But she’s too pretty to be a helper, cook!”, the soldier said to Minoru. Minoru then pushed him out of the kitchen and forbade him to go in ever again.
Jun-seok put his hand on his forehead and worriedly ran his hand through his hair, thinking. This isn’t good... all the other Korean soldiers would’ve known about her by now. They might hurt her, he thought. I have to tell Watanabe and the Captain.
Minoru studied Jun-seok’s face and held onto his arm. “Sakurai-san, don’t do anything harsh. I don’t think those soldiers would do anything now but you really have to tell the Captain tomorrow. Right now, she’s there in your quarters and she might very well escape. It won’t help you or the Shosa if she leaves. You have to protect her more than ever.”
Minoru is right, Jun-seok thought. He was sure of it that if he didn’t go to her soon, she might leave.
“Arigato, Yuto-san.”, Jun-seok said and took his leave to see her.
*****
He hurriedly entered his tent to see if she was around. He breathed a sigh of relief to see her lying down on her cot, curled up into a ball. He was thinking she was already asleep and didn’t really want to wake her. But she stirred and looked up and saw him standing against the open tent flap.
“Anata, Jin, Jin-seok?”, she asked nervously, squinting her eyes. “Yes, it’s me.”, Jun-seok replied. He turned on the gas lamp so she could see him clearly.
He found it cute that she usually calls him Jin-seok instead of Jun-seok because in her language, they would pronounce the U as an OO which made the Korean pronunciation of his name incorrect. So she stuck with Jin-seok since it was closer to the pronunciation of his first name.
“Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t join you for dinner. I hope I can make up for it.”, Jun-seok said.
She gave a weak smile. “It’s ok. You don’t need to be here with me all the time. I’m fine. I can handle myself.”
He clearly saw that she was scared despite what she was saying. He knew he had to calm her down. She must’ve been on guard since earlier after what happened.
“Yuto-san told me what happened.”, he said. This made her hug herself and rub her arms. “I’m sorry, Jin-seok. I should’ve been more careful.”
“It wasn’t your fault. You reacted the way anyone would after hearing that noise. But I will speak to the Captain tomorrow and move you somewhere else. I don’t feel comfortable having you here anymore.”
“Will you send me home?”, she asked. It was the first time she ever asked that and it made Jun-seok sad that she might have been contemplating it.
“I don’t know. That’s not for me to decide.”, Jun-seok replied.
He could see the discussion was making her more uncomfortable so Jun-seok asked her to sit on the floor beside him. “I want to give you something to make up for things. Something we actually both need tonight.”
Her curiosity was piqued and her usual inquisitive nature started to show when her right eyebrow went up, wondering what this gift is.
Jun-seok pulled out from his pocket 3 silver packs. He gave one to her and opened the other. “Go on, open it.”, he said. She opened the pack and in it were biscuits. “I got them from my special rations. We don’t normally get a lot of these so I save them when I get them.” She held up one of them to the light and saw that they were rectangular in shape with two dots on top.
“They’re called Morinaga Choice biscuits. They’re actually round with dots on top but they made them smaller for us soldiers to bring around easier.” She took a bite and her eyes were smiling as she was munching. “They’re sweet and crunchy. Very nice.”, she said in between bites.
Jun-seok then motioned to her to open her palm and when she did, he placed a square piece of candy on it. It was some Botan rice candy - soft, chewy citrus-flavored candy with a rice paper covering. She smiled and started unwrapping the clear wrap from the candy. “No, no, no. You don’t need to unwrap it! The  covering is edible!”, he exclaimed, holding onto her hands to stop her from unwrapping.
She opened her hands to reveal the candy, half smushed because he held her hands tightly. He apologized to her after seeing the candy that way which made her laugh. “No, it’s ok, Jin-seok! I can still eat it, right?”, she asked.
“Of course you can. Eat it whole, no more unwrapping.”, Jun-seok replied.
She popped it in her mouth and blurted out a soft squeal, happily saying that it was sweet and fruity. “I haven’t tried anything like this before. It’s so good!”, she exclaimed.
Jun-seok smiled wide and was happy to see her at her usual self, making small sounds as she ate the candy. He felt this strong tug in his heart and realized that he instinctively held her left hand with his right hand. This made her look at him and she gave him a half smile.
She didn’t move away... she was just looking at him. Seeing her in the faint light, hair slightly disheveled, lips slightly parted... he couldn’t hold back. He kissed her and she kissed him back. As he continued kissing her, he held her in his arms, finally feeling relief from this longing he had to touch her and have her close to him.

November 20, 1944
Days passed and Jun-seok knew he was head over heels for her. He denied it every single day when he woke up but as soon as he looked over to the other side of his quarters and saw her curled up body sleeping in the other mat, he totally would change his mind. Each day the Captain told him to keep her there, the more he learned about her that got him so enamored with her.
His orders to get the other Korean soldiers to change their loyalties to Lt. Akagi was even slightly set aside from his mind because of her. He knew that it was disobeying what the Shosa and the Captain set out for him, but he couldn’t do it since he would always go back to his quarters as soon as he finished work in the makeshift hangars of the planes.
Every morning, after having a quick breakfast in his quarters with her, he left to go to the hangar to work on the plane engines. Officer Watanabe was able to get some of the engines for repair but the hangars were 1 hour away from camp and it was quite difficult to go back to camp if he had several engines or plane parts to repair. He worried about being away too long from the camp as she was alone in his quarters. He only hoped that the cook was protecting her as well since she was quite the asset - quick learner and really interested in making herself useful. She studied the recipes for the meals of the soldiers and even cooked more than once this week, as the cook was starting to like her enthusiasm in doing more work that he thought she would put in.
Officer Watanabe allowed him to leave a little earlier than the other soldiers as they were both concerned when it was time for dinner. The mess hall tent was filled with many soldiers during dinner and some would visit the cook every now and then to ask for more condiments or food. If they knew that a woman was in there, it would definitely become dangerous for her.
So, he'd leave an hour before dinner was served and be at the kitchen to see her helping the cook. The cook, who always looked stressed during dinnertime, would be asking her to speed up on preparation as there were always several dishes served in the mess hall tent. There was also the meals for the Shosa and General to be prepared if they were in camp.
Everytime Jun-seok would arrive, she and the cook would let out a sigh of relief since Jun-seok always helped in the kitchen. He had skills in cooking and the cook was grateful to get an extra pair of hands to help.
After the dinner rush, the two of them would retire to the quarters and have their own quiet meal together. But it never stays as quiet as they always had something to laugh about and learn from each other.
He found out that she was the youngest of the three daughters her father has and she was the only one who didn’t have her own family. Her sisters wed the heirs of the other coffee plantation owners in the province and have their own kids. As the youngest, she made her father proud by learning about growing coffee and roasting it properly. When the Americans invaded them, she learned their language as easily as possible and even worked in a cafe for the GIs. When the Japanese invaded, she had to resort to helping her father in the Mayor’s office, especially when it came to the coffee farmers she knew very well. She pushed herself to learn Nihonggo so she could communicate for the farmers and to understand what the soldiers and officers would ask for so relations between them would be smoother.
“I noticed that if I learned your language, Japanese soldiers would be nicer to me and the people I speak for. I know in other provinces, they have had it tough with so many of them being killed or hurt, just because they didn’t know how to speak to the soldiers. But some can be very brutal...”, she said to Jun-seok that night during dinner.
Jun-seok felt a little embarrassed to hear how other people were treated as he was part of the army. But he also had a feeling of disdain for the whole army, as he was from a country that was subjugated by the Japanese as well.
“I know what you mean and how difficult it is.”, he said to her as he was grabbing some seaweed from the bowl in front of him as they were eating dinner.
“How would you know how difficult it is, Ittohei?”, she asked quizzically, not understanding his meaning.
He looked up and realized he said too much. It took her a couple of seconds to realize it and then she asked, “Ittohei, I’m sorry to ask but... are you Japanese?”
Jun-seok could see how smart and well-informed this lady is. She figured it out from just one statement that he probably wasn’t but wanted to be sure. It is expected from Koreans like him that they should say either two things to respond to this type of question: Yes, he is Japanese and No, he is not but he is a proud Japanese citizen.
Both were lies and left a bad taste in his mouth.
He looked around before saying a flat no to her.
She nodded and started  awkwardly eating her rice with her chopsticks (she learned to use them in a matter of days), quietly considering his response. Based on the way she reacted, Jun-seok knew she was thinking if she would ask where he was really from.
“Are you Korean just like Akagi-san?” she asked pointedly and put down her bowl and chopsticks just to wait for him to respond.
“How did you know he’s Korean?”, he asked. “People talk. We all know that the Koreans in the army have been physically hurting us more because they seem to be getting a lot of pain and pressure from the Japanese soldiers. I know they have much to be angry about with their superiors and even your country also occupied by the Japanese. But it’s not fair to take it out on my people.”
Jun-seok contemplated this. She seemed well informed about a lot of things in the Japanese army and the government. Guess that’s what you get for working in a government office.
“Will you mind change about me if you knew I was Korean?”, he asked her.
“I’m not going to lie - I don’t like the Koreans as much as I don’t like the Japanese who are here. I am just thankful we are generally treated better than others. But... you are not like them. I don’t think you’ve been here long enough to truly know how it’s like here. That’s why you’re still very kind.” She looked at him plainly and he realized this is the woman he met that first day when she was defending the old man who was beaten up by the Japanese soldier. He saw in her face the visible sadness that she was carrying that was caused by all the atrocities done to her community.
“I’m sorry. I really don’t know what to say.”, Jun-seok hung his head and felt helpless.
“Don’t be sorry. You just follow your superiors like everyone else.”, she said. “Is my father dead?”
Jun-seok looked at her and vehemently said no. “He’s absolutely fine. Trust me on this.”
“Alright. Does he think I’m dead?”, she asked him. “No, he thinks you’re missing and went to the mountains to your relatives who are there.”
She became quiet for a couple of minutes and continued eating. Jun-seok felt a little nauseated as the answers he provided her were definitely not ideal. He was now concerned that she might escape, now that she knows that her father is still alive.
“Is the Shosa keeping me here because he thinks I’ll tell my father and go to the mountains to start a revolt?”, she asked a little angrily.
“Well, more of tell your father and people might revolt after. Not really you leading it.”
She had a bit of a scowl on her face and said annoyingly, “The Shosa should’ve known me better than this. No matter how much anger and pain I feel from the death of the farmers and their families that day... I wouldn’t even dream having people revolt against you.”
Jun-seok became quiet and she might have seen on his face his unspoken question of why.
“Because if we did, we are going to lose and more people will die. I am not about to place the lives of my community at risk that way. This is also the reason I haven’t left and I’m just waiting for you to tell me when I can go home. I would rather wait for the time the Japanese army is done fighting or if they give up. They sooner will do so anyway.”
Her words reminded him of his father who worked hard to keep the peace and co-exist with the Japanese to keep his family safe. He understood how that was and knew he was doing the same thing.
“Yes, I am Korean.”, he said to her calmly.
“Alright then. So, what’s your real name? I know that Touma Sakurai is your Japanese name and since I will still be staying here until you all decide what to do with me, I think I need to meet the Korean that’s in front of me.”
This woman never ceases to amaze me, Jun-seok thought. He felt his heart being tugged again by her casual confidence and bravery.
“My name is Kim Jun-seok.”, he said.
She reached out her right hand. Jun-seok didn’t quite grasp this and she told him to stretch out his right hand. She took his right hand and placed it in hers. Then she shook it and introduced herself.
“That is a handshake, my friend. It’s my way of saying it’s nice to meet you, Jun-seok.”, she said after.
Jun-seok liked hearing her say his name. As he was feeling the softness of her small hand in his, he couldn’t help but move his thumb over her hand and knuckles, feeling the soft skin.
She noticed this but didn’t let go of his hand. She looked at their hands together and smiled a little as he did this.
“You’ve never had a handshake before?”, she asked him coyly.
He swayed his head with a smile. She laughed a little and told him that after they shake hands, it’s customary to let go.
Jun-seok suddenly let go of her hand and said sorry and she giggled. Jun-seok could feel his face and ears getting red because of embarrassment and this made her laugh more.
“Hey, don’t worry. It’s an American custom and at least I shared something new to you. Not just you teaching me your cooking all the time.”, she said sweetly.
She just doesn’t know how much she’s taught me already, Jun-seok thought.

Kismet (Chapter 23) : A BTS Jin imagines fanfic

November 12, 1944
Captain Yuzawa was clearly perplexed. Jun-seok saw that much in the man’s expression. Warrant Officer Watanabe was silently waiting just like Jun-seok. But he would open his mouth several times to say something, as if he had a suggestion but he would stop midway and then he would close his mouth again. This would catch the Captain’s attention and when Watanabe wouldn’t continue, the Captain scowled.
“Oh, spit it out, Officer! You’re giving me a headache with your hesitation!”, the Captain said irritably.
“Captain, I was just thinking of how we can get out of this situation. But with every idea... there are... dire consequences...”, Officer Watanabe muttered. “It always leads to the locals revolting. Sorry.”
“Tch.”, The Captain said a little too loudly, more out of annoyance than anything else.
“How is she, Ittohei?”, he asked Jun-seok, who was silently watching them the whole time, waiting to be asked.
“She’s fine, Captain. Exceptionally resilient despite what happened.”, Jun-seok said. “And... really inquisitive. Almost annoying even.”, he said to them but softly chuckled in the end.
He remembered what she asked last night - the red paste he added on his food which came from his tent and not in the kitchen. It was his mother’s homemade gochujang (red chili paste) which he had with the bits of pork for dinner. Of course, she wanted to try it and he gave her a taste. She asked for water several times afterward which made him laugh out loud because whatever composure she was trying to keep, she lost it in that moment.
The Captain noticed his laugh and said, “If it was annoying, why are you laughing, Ittohei?”
Jun-seok cleared his throat and said sorry. “She just had a lot of questions, sir. She doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything.”
The Captain nodded at this statement. Then Officer Watanabe asked: “Do you think she’s going to escape?”
This made Jun-seok think for a moment. Sure, she is smart and could be playing coy but she didn’t seem to be struggling in camp and wanted to leave. It’s been two days and she followed his instructions. True enough, she worked in the kitchen since she wanted something to do and she never left the tent, for fear of being taken by the other soldiers. He worried at night though - she might just slip away but then again, there were always soldiers on guard.
“I don’t think so, Officer. She understands how well-guarded our camp is and she’s afraid that other officers will hurt her so she stays in the kitchen and doesn’t go out. She has followed what I’ve instructed her to do so far.”
“Has she asked about her father? Or cousin?”, Watanabe asked.
“She has but hasn’t insisted much after I told her that her cousin died and her father is safe. I think she’s alright with knowing that her father is okay. He is, right?”, Jun-seok asked, looking back at the Captain.
The Captain nodded. ‘He shared with the Shosa that she and her cousin are missing and asked the Shosa to help look for them. He’s thinking that they might have gone to their relatives up north but they never told him so he’s worried. The Shosa said he will help look for them.”
“That must’ve been hard for the Shosa to say to him.”, Officer Watanabe said.
“it was. We need to give him a solution to this... damn Akagi! This would all be alright if he just didn’t go off the rails again.”, the Captain seethed with anger after saying that.
Jun-seok heard that Akagi was beaten up by the commanding officers and even by the first-class privates in his platoon in front of the Shosa and General Isumi. He was close to dying if the Shosa didn’t give the order to stop as he and the General knew that officers like Akagi were still needed in battle. The US forces were closing in at the capital of the country and it won’t be long before this would give the locals confidence to revolt. Of course, General Yamashita said in a broadcast that the Imperial Army is stronger than ever and should not back down but all forces should be on alert. General Isumi was sent to their area to ensure that the tarmac would be made soon as more fighter planes from Japan would arrive in the next few weeks.
"We've got a tight schedule to get this tarmac made. At least less than 2 weeks...", the Captain told them.
Watanabe faced Jun-seok and with an inquisitive look asked him: "Ittohei, how much do you think does this woman trust you?"
Jun-seok was silent and had to assess for a minute. She followed his instructions, more out of fear from the other soldiers than fear of him. They reached a level of comfort wherein they had casual discussions about themselves but nothing that would show actual trust. He did notice that she was more inquisitive about him and his background rather than anything about the camp so it seemed like she wasn't scoping it to think of ways to escape. She was actually growing on him despite her many questions and straightforward demeanor. He was not used to interacting with women who are like that. All those he met and interacted with were very submissive and shy. She isn't but her soft side comes out sooner or later, especially when they chatted.
"Ahem...", Watanabe cleared his throat loudly enough to get Jun-seok to notice it. He obviously took longer again to respond. "Ah, ye...", Jun-seok replied.
"Nani (What)?", the Captain asked, dumbfounded by Jun-seok's response.
It took Jun-seok a few seconds to realize he responded yes in Korean. "Ah! Hai, hai!", Jun-seok blurted out yes in Nihonggo. "I think she does trust me. She hasn't asked anything about the camp so I don't think she's figuring out how to escape. She rather wants to stay in the kitchen tent. She's a little wary of the other soldiers."
"Can't blame her... There are hardly any women here.", Watanabe said, swaying his head and saying tsk after.
"How is the cook with her around and helping?", the Captain asked.
Jun-seok shared the few times she and the cook met and how she helped him right away in food preparation. The cook was pleased with the extra help but also found her to be too inquisitive during food preparations which he found to be a little intrusive.
"I told her not to ask him so many questions. What's important is that she helps prepare food and be safe there. He gives her meals and she can stay in a place where very few people see her.", Jun-seok said.
With this, the Captain decided that he would see her the next day to tell her what was going on and hopefully get her cooperation.
*****
Jun-seok was peeling and preparing several vegetables. He was peeling carrots for a soup he was making with the leftover pork they had. It didn't take long for her to come through the tent flaps to join him in the kitchen. Like always, she would open the flaps slowly and peek through to see who was around. She gave a big smile when she saw Jun-seok and he couldn't help but smile in return. Seeing her face light up upon seeing him made him feel warm and light.
"What's cooking?", she asked and looked inside the pot that had some boiling water and pork. "I am making a well-known stew from my country.", Jun-seok replied.
"Ooh. Can I help?", she asked and looked around for a knife and a chopping board. "But you don't know what I'm cooking.", Jun-seok replied.
She kept looking around, moving several pots and pans until she found the chopping board. "Doesn't matter - you'll teach me what we'll be cooking, right?" She then took out a tie from her pocket and tied her hair up in a bun.
In that moment, Jun-seok became awe-struck at her side profile. Seeing her hair wrapped up not so neatly, slightly disheveled with wisps of hair falling from the back of her neck, he felt really warm and found her beautiful.
Then she faced him and he suddenly had to chuckle. A few strands of hair were pulled up from the top of her head and it looked like someone pulled her hair in a fight.
"What?", she asked quizzically and he was trying to compose himself but couldn't and eventually laughed out loud.
"What's so funny?", she asked, feeling a little miffed since she knew he was laughing at her.
He started pointing at the right side of her head. Upon touching it, she knew and tried to pat her hair down. "Aaagh, you don't have a mirror here so I can't see..."
She was trying to fix it by patting her hair down but she couldn't tell if it was totally all the way down.
"Wait, let me...", Jun-seok offered. He went in front of her and used his fingers to stroke her head and pulled the wisps of hair and tucked it behind her ear.
He looked at her eyes and saw her staring at him, mouth slightly open.
"Arigato, Ittohei...", she said, looking at his eyes with such softness.
He felt this pull to just scoop her in his arms and kiss her... if he can for just for a few seconds...
A clatter of hard metal fell to the floor which jolted them from the moment. She screamed and he shouted. They looked around and saw several pans on the floor. It came from the pile of pans that she moved when she was looking for the chopping board.
"I thought it was an attack...", she said. Jun-seok got so startled that he clutched the side of his head.
"I think you screamed a girly scream.", she said and started laughing. Jun-seok looked at her, still a little worried and realized that he did shout which was quite high pitched. This made him laugh too with her.
He realized as they were cooking after that despite the differences in their culture, ethnicity and even language, this woman is someone who can really make him laugh, smile and even forget he was far away from home, fighting in a war that he totally didn't accept nor understand. But if it wasn't for that, then he wouldn't have met such a wonderful person.

November 8, 1944
He waited for her to fully open her eyes. He was eager to see her awake but was also anxious because he wasn't sure how she would react. Jun-seok hardly knew anything about this woman except for the fact that she is the Mayor's daughter. He wasn't that sure about her name either. The Shosa nor the Captain failed to let him know.
She started to wake up and was observing her surroundings slowly. It didn't seem like she was experiencing trauma or panic but she looked anxious too.
She started to sit up and he helped her slowly. She jerked away from him when he reached out to prop her up but eventually gave in when she felt that it was draining for her to sit up.
She started looking around his quarters quietly, not reacting violently but more of taking stock of where she was and what was happening. She did seem to be deep in thought, trying to remember what happened.
She then had this face of sadness. He could see that she most likely remembered everything, including her cousin's death.
"Ano... Itoko doko desu ka? (Where is my cousin)" , she asked him with tears in her eyes.
Jun-seok told her that he was gone and eventually shared with her that he was buried. He wasn't sure if she really did remember every detail.
"Anata wa dare? (Who are you)", she asked him calmly. He could see that she was trying to act as calm as possible despite the tears rolling down her cheeks.
He explained who he was to her and reassured her that she was safe. He mentioned that it was Shosa Kimori who asked him to take care of her.
She was nodding her head when she heard this. She then noticed that she was wearing different clothes and started to panic.
"Where are my clothes? Did you change... me?", she asked in Japanese but in a very embarrassed tone.
He suddenly turned red in the face and ears started to explain slowly what he did. "I swear you weren't naked... You still had your undergarments when I changed your clothes. I'm sorry if you're offended but if you didn't change, you might have gotten sick!", Jun-seok said in a slightly embarrassed way.
"Wakarimashita. (I understand)", she replied.
There was an awkward silence between them for a few minutes. She was looking around the quarters/kitchen and became quiet. She must still be processing what happened in her mind, he thought as he observed her.
"Will I be able to go home?", she asked him. He was surprised not only in her fluency with Japanese but also with how calm she was so far despite the tears in her eyes.
"No, not yet.", Jun-seok said sadly. He figured she understood what the Shosa said of keeping her in camp with him and how she might jeopardize what friendship is left between her father and the Shosa. For sure, Mayor Ben will find out about her cousin's death.
" I won't tell my father yet. I'll make sure the locals won't revolt. Please just let me go home..."
"I'm sorry but I can't let you do that.", Jun-seok said with a somber tone. He felt bad for her predicament and wished he could do something. But his orders was to keep her here.
She started to cry softly, her face on her knees as she hugged her legs close. Jun-seok heard her muffled cries and sighed. He knew he wouldn't be able to convince the Shosa to change his mind.
He stood up from the floor and looked at the tent flaps separating the quarters from the kitchen. He started to feel his tummy growling and realized the lunch queue was probably over.
He thought of cooking something for himself and her so he checked what was available. There were packs of rice, tins of mackerel and bonito as well as some pickled radishes. He looked back at her and saw she was still crying but she laid back down. Seeing that she was quietly lying on the mat, he cooked some rice good for two and heated up the canned mackerel and bonito in a pan. He also found some miso paste and heated water to make some miso soup.
He placed the food he cooked in bowls which were available for use and also brought in some hot barley tea. With a tray, he placed all the food on top of the floor table he had in his tent.
He saw that she fell asleep again since it took him almost 30 minutes to cook. He went close to her and nudged her shoulder lightly.
"Hey, please wake up. I brought some food."
She stirred and opened her eyes. She then shook her head no in response but he was persistent. "Look, you most likely didn't eat this early morning and you may not feel like eating now but I won't let you get sick while you're with me. You have to eat something."
She looked at him anxiously and since he wasn't leaving her side, she sat up.
He asked her to move closer to the table while he sat opposite her. He explained what he cooked and asked her to eat, as he gave her a pair of chopsticks.
She wasn't sure how to use them so she handed them back to him. He then went to the kitchen again and came back with a soup spoon. "Sorry we don't have forks and spoons here."
She nodded and got the soup spoon. The first thing she lifted to try was the miso soup. As soon as she slurped it, her eyes grew wide. "Umai (It's good)!", she exclaimed and slurped a few more spoonfuls. This made Jun-seok smile and he started having the soup too.
He could see that she was trying to contain her excitement when she tried out the other food and this warmed his heart. At least she forgot her sadness for a few moments, he thought.
"Is this your first time trying Japanese food?", he asked.
She nodded in between bites and then said, "Father gave me some Japanese snacks from the Shosa to try. They were good too but I haven't had full meals like this before."
Jun-seok smiled and gave her a piece of pickled radish and placed it on her bowl rice. "Try this with a piece of the fish. They are good together."
She did and she smiled while chewing. She nodded in agreement and she slurped some more of the soup.
It's amusing to see that she loves to eat, he thought. She doesn't seem to be too afraid to show her appreciation for the food.
"Did you cook all of this?", she asked. When he nodded yes, she looked surprised. "For an officer, you sure know how to cook. This is really good!"
He chuckled and took a sip of his tea. "I'm glad you like it. Sorry if I'm eating with you though. I haven't had anything this morning."
"That's ok. It's better than eating alone.", she replied.
They continued eating quietly for several minutes and she was slowly chewing on the fish and rice. He noticed her mood changed and he hoped she wouldn't cry again.
After what seemed like ages, she asked, "Why are you being so nice to me? I'm one of the locals."
"Well you are staying with me for a while or until the Captain tells me you can go.", he said a little bit bluntly. " We should make the most of it."
She nodded and set aside the bowl she was holding. "Alright. I'm not going to be your servant, am I?"
He swayed his head no and almost spilled the tea inside his mouth. "No! What makes you think I..."
"That's what happens to women brought to camp.", she interjected. "When the soldiers bring the local women here, they become comfort wives or servants or slaves."
"No, you are not any of those."
"Then am I your prisoner?", she asked bluntly.
He wished he didn't have a response to that query but the truth is, she was. But he knew it didn't feel that way.
He nodded yes reluctantly.
She started processing all of this in her head and Jun-seok felt a little embarrassed. He knew she would probably escape or rebel. He had to keep her out of harm's way but he wasn't sure how willing she would be to follow him and stay there.
"Ok.", she said. " Then give me something to do. I can't just sit here."
Jun-seok gave her a smirk. She definitely was different. In less than an hour, she was sad and then hungry and now calmly contemplating her options.
She really is beautiful, he thought to himself. Looks like he got more than what he bargained for.

Kismet (Chapter 21) : A BTS Jin imagines fanfic
First ever fanfic. Contains some fluff and smut. Please read sequentially as it is a long story arc. Please provide feedback! My IG is btskismet. Warning: violent scenes
November 8, 1944
The last time Jun-seok felt this way was when he was at the hospital with his mother, waiting outside the operating room as his father was going through surgery. He was scared, angry, sad and half-crazy worrying about his father’s condition and then felt relieved when he pulled through.
At this moment, he is feeling the same way again. He was sad for her, as she was sitting on the ground, holding onto the man who died in her arms. He wanted nothing more but to run to her and take her away from where she was at. He got scared earlier for her but felt a sense of relief after the Major/Shosa shouted stop. His anger though started to build when he saw the sneer Akagi made before he lowered the sword and faced the Shosa, the General and the Captain.
Shosa Kimori glared at Akagi and was appalled to see the carnage before him. The Captain was visibly upset and embarrassed, knowing full well that he would be chewed out later by his superiors for this. General Isumi though was calm, critically observing his soldiers deal with the situation.
The rest of the platoon bowed really low when they got over their surprise and recognized the General. Jun-seok bowed as well, trying to catch glimpses of her but other soldiers in front fo him were in the way. He could only hear her soft whimpering.
"What is the meaning of this, Lt. Akagi?", the Shosa asked.
"They were disobeying my orders, Shosa Kimori.", Akagi said in a steady tone. "The farmers were supposed to provide water to my platoon since we're assigned here to protect their crops from rebel forces but they didn't bring some."
" And they all deserved to be obliterated? You have at least 12 people who are dead here!", the Shosa exclaimed.
"They were about to revolt, Shosa Kimori. They all were ready to take up arms!", Akagi firmly lied.
"Including the little girl?", Captain Yuzawa said bitterly. Jun-seok could hear the pain in his voice. For a split second, he looked up and saw the girl Yuzawa was talking about since he was standing close to the corpse of the girl. She looked like she was just about 5 years old.
Akagi didn't answer. The area became silent except for her soft cries.
General Isumi then spoke up, "Lt. Akagi, just how much of a threat to the town and our government were these people? Were they about to give up the perimeter to the rebels?"
"It was possible, General-sama! They were very uncooperative!", Akagi said in a very clipped but loud manner. Sure, he was lying through his teeth but it seemed to convince the General somewhat.
Shosa Kimori was looking at the woman who was crying and became exasperated upon realizing who she was.
"No... not her...", he said, shaking his head and placing his right hand onto his right temple. "Why are you here, ojosan*?"
Captain Yuzawa went closer to the young woman to get a closer look. Despite her rain-drenched, blood and mud-stained clothes, wet hair and distraught face, she was still beautiful. Jun-seok was observing the Captain's expression as he was thinking of what to do.
But everyone was surprised when the Shosa angrily went to Akagi and lifted him by the collar. "Do you not even know who she is?!", he shouted in Akagi's face.
Akagi sneered but didn't say a word. If anything, he was even pleased that the Shosa was very upset with him.
"She is Ben-san's daughter. You almost killed her!", the Shosa exclaimed and without ado, punched Akagi with his other fist. Akagi fell to the ground and wiped away the blood in his mouth with his sleeve, looking detestedly at Shosa Kimori.
"That's enough, Kimori.", General-sama said firmly. The Shosa took out his handkerchief and wiped his fist, glaring at Akagi, surely upset with the man before him.
"Take him to the pit. NOW. ", Shosa Kimori ordered the other soldiers of Akagi's platoon. They reluctantly restrained their leader and dragged him to the camp.
"This man cost us the coffee fields, General-sama.", Yuzawa said. "We're lucky if we don't get raided tomorrow."
"This can be fixed.", the Shosa said. He looked around and counted the number of soldiers in the area. He called the platoon Jun-seok was with over to them.
He spoke to Yuzawa softly and then he saw the latter look around. His eyes connected with Yuzawa's and in a split second of recognition, he called Jun-seok over.
Jun-seok went to them and he heard Yuzawa telling Kimori that he was the "multilingual ittohei". "Thank the gods you are here.", Shosa said to him. "Please take her to the camp but don't walk close to the perimeter. Take the roads that are less traveled. I don't want you both to be seen by the locals. She needs to stay with you first.", the Shosa implored.
Jun-seok was surprised with the request. "But Shosa, I just got here. Where do I bring her in the camp?"
"Take her to your quarters first. It's the one adjoined to the kitchen. She will be safe there. I will ask Watanabe to see you later for your orders.", Captain Yuzawa said.
"She should not leave your quarters and the camp. Restrain her if you need to although I hope it doesn't come to that.", the Shosa said. "She's shocked but she might run off if she starts to get back to her senses."
The three of them looked at her softly whimpering, her head on the chest of the dead man she was hugging. Jun-seok noticed that the man was slightly younger than her and he most likely is related to her.
"You need to pull her away from him. I don't want her to stay here long.", Shosa said softly, greatly concerned with the ojosan. " She was very close to her younger cousin and now we are responsible for this young man's death too."
Jun-seok heaved a sigh and went to her. He spoke to her softly, introducing himself and slowly nudging her to look up.
"He's gone but you are still here.", he told her. "Please, let me take you somewhere safe.", he reassured her.
She looked up and saw that her face was redder due to the blood smeared on the right side of her face. He was concerned that she was bleeding but he noticed there was blood on her blouse and understood it came from the young man's corpse.
From behind, he lifted her by the shoulders so she would stand up but she was limp and heavy. She didn't let go of the man right away and he heard her murmuring in her native language. When he abruptly lifted her, she let go of the corpse and then said tearfully, "Yakuin... Tasukete onegai shimasu (Officer, please help me)...".
She then faced him, looked at his eyes and pleaded to him to help her. She then placed her hands on his chest and gripped his uniform, asking for his help. He noticed that as she was looking at him, pleading softly for his help, her eyes started to focus away from him and then she fainted. He caught her before she started to fall.
Captain Yuzawa saw her faint and went to Jun-seok. "Dame da (This is no good). You have to lift her, Ittohei.", he ordered.
It would be difficult to lift her, despite her being light enough to be brought to camp. The walk though would take a while. To make sure she didn't fall, she was hoisted behind Jun-seok's broad back and her wrists were tied so they could be hooked around his shoulders as she was straddled behind him.
He began walking slowly back to camp, leaving behind half of the platoon and the squad he was with earlier. They started lifting the corpses further into the forest for a mass burial.
Jun-seok was walking very slowly to camp, making sure she balanced properly behind him and that she was supported properly from behind. She wasn't that heavy but the fact she fainted makes balancing her behind him tricky as she was leaning over rather than securely holding on to him.
"Well, I did want to get to know her but this is really an odd situation. Fate is making her stay with me for a short while.", he thought as he was lugging her behind him.
Her clothes were dirty, bloody and wet and she had to get out of them or else she might get sick. He was thinking if the medical tent had extra clothes for her.
-------
Jun-seok was wiping away the rest of the blood and mud from her face, as she lay on the mat.
After bringing her to his quarters, he was lucky enough to have gotten extra clothes from the medical tent though they were clothes for a soldier. He had to cut out the blouse and pants she was wearing and though it was uncomfortable, he made sure to slowly change her into the clean shirt and drawstring pants he got.
He was admiring how soft her skin was when he was changing her, making sure not to look too much at her when he was taking off her soiled clothes. But the softness of her skin was something he couldn't get out of his mind as his hands lightly grazed upon her as he dressed her.
He started cleaning her arms and legs with a soft, wet cloth and the last thing was her face and hair.
As he was wiping away the grime and blood from her face, he looked at her facial features and how beautiful she is up close.
"She seems so calm.", he thought as he started to wipe close to her lips. They were slightly parted and she looked like she was waiting to be kissed as she was asleep.
"Wow. I wonder what it's like to kiss her...", he thought, looking at her soft, slightly red lips.
He shook his head and stood up, stretching and slapping his head with his hand. He was 'erasing' images from his mind, feeling bad with himself for thinking the way he did. "Get a hold of yourself, man. She's the Mayor's daughter.", he told himself.
He went back to her to wipe off the gunk from her head and hair, making sure he was as gentle as possible.
As he was cleaning her, he started to wonder about her background. So, she's the Mayor's daughter. Is that why she was bold and confident? Or did she feel coerced and tried to hide her fear?
Just as he was about to soak the towel in warm water again, her eyes fluttered slightly.
