Preparations - Jel x Reader

Jel stood beside you, his fingers working deftly on the ribbons to your corset’s side. He cinched it up carefully, his eyes often flickering up to meet yours. You said nothing with your mouth, but your anxious eyes spoke volumes.

“Are you nervous?” Jel asked quietly.

You looked to the floor and gave an unsure shrug. Jel watched as your fingertips toyed with your long skirt’s material, reading you like a book.

“That wasn’t a very confident answer, now was it?” He chuckled.

You got pink in your cheeks, a bit embarrassed. “Sorry. I just don’t know how to explain it. I’m excited, it’s just… what if they don't like me?”

Jel paused his hands, staring you in the eye with a suddenly serious demeanor. You almost felt like you were going to be scolded, but then remembered this was Jel we were talking about. He had an expressive face and a wide array of emotions to express as it was.

“My muse,” He said earnestly, “My family will adore you.”

You looked away, the muscle in the corner of your lips twitching, unconvinced. Jel tilted his head almost confusedly; how did you not understand how special and rare you are? Did you really think you’d bring shame to his family?

“But… I’m nothing like you,” You mumbled sadly. “You run a spectacular tailoring and fashion business and come from a family of amazing businesswomen, and I… I’m your average void-booted human here.”

Jel made a face of absurdity at the sound of your self-deprecation. Still, he appreciated that you were allowing him to step inside your mind for a moment. He abandoned your corset’s lacing to stand in front of you. He cupped your face, his thumbs tracing over your cheekbones. He wanted to make sure your eyes stayed on his.

“You are anything but average, my love,” Jel rebuked, his velvety voice thick with passion. “You are unyielding, strong, inspiring, thoughtful; you light up every room you grace.”

Your cheeks felt warm to the touch; Jel could feel it. Your eyes bashfully darted away from his, but Jel wasn’t going to force you to look at him. He waited for your response patiently, respecting your timidity when it came to things like this. If he was honest with himself, Jel would have noticed you were actually mimicking a habit he usually did when flustered.

“What if I irk them?” You asked quietly.

Jel tilted his head thoughtfully, going over in his head how he’d respond to any criticisms his family would possibly have. He let out a deep sigh, then said, “Well, considering I have a big family, I’m sure all of them won’t have the same reaction. Some may be more dramatic than the others, I’m sure… but, I will not allow any of my sisters or mother to step on your toes. I’ll do everything I can to make this trip and meeting go as smoothly as possible.”

Jel let his hands fall from your face. You looked back at him, and after a pause, you gave him a thankful smile. Upon seeing it, Jel felt relief swiftly wash over him. He was overjoyed that he could help you or comfort you, especially during stressful times like these.

“May I continue lacing up your corset, my muse?” Jel asked in a murmur.

“Yes, please,” You said with a nod, “And thank you.”

Jel chuckled lightly and stepped around to your side, his fingers seeking out the lace ribbons again. “Don’t thank me.”

“Ah, I have a lot to thank you for, Jel,” you sighed with a smile.

“Well, no need for any of it,” Jel repeated, “Making you happy and reminding you how wonderful you are is a natural habit of mine. I was designed to do it.”

He laced up the remaining inches of ribbon through the corset’s anklets at last. Then, unexpectedly, he leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss to your cheek. The corners of your smile deepened endearingly, your chest feeling warm and fuzzy.

“Come,” Jel said, gesturing to the door with a gentle hand. “I want to show you off, my love.”

You took Jel’s arm and walked with him to his boudoir’s exit, your heart racing with excitement. With Jel on your side, you realized, it didn’t even matter what his family thought of you.

Jel . . .

- is a FREAK about Winterlights!! He loves the spirit, the beautiful festive decorations, the cheery holiday music—until he gets backed up in Winterlights outfit commissions and has several breakdowns 🫶

- additionally adores the cold weather, as it means he can add more layers to his outfits; apart from himself, of course, the weather means he can shelter in from the bitter cold with his heart-warming muse!

- works tirelessly during Winterlights, so he may need to be pried from his work to take a break

- decorates everything; the shop's exterior will be lit up in chic lights, the interior will splashed with a Winterlights color palette, and even his living quarters upstairs will be all festive and jolly

- usually never had the time to play in the snow prior to your relationship, but he finds himself wanting to let go a little bit whenever you're both out and about

- will absolutely gasp and scoff dramatically when you hit him with snowballs; he doesn't have perfect aim, but he's fast, so he's able to recover quickly

- LOVES WINTERLIGHTS SHOPPING!! Finding gifts that he know you will love and gifts that remind him of you make him so happy. Of course, you will not be able to see your presents until the day comes; he is highly secretive about it

- wants to explore your culture if you celebrate Christmas, Hanakkah, or the like; he'll want to craft something inspired by it, something you could keep forever that will remind you of both him and your traditions

- can't cook or bake to save his life . . . but damn it, he wants to make and ice Winterlights cookies with you!! (he may not be an great baker, but he's excellent at decorating cookies)

- doesn't have a fireplace, but he does have a radiator near his bed that he clings to during the winter; you may mot be able to snuggle with him near a fire, but you can sure snuggle with him in his bed with a cup of cocoa

I've just of the weirdest question.... Can a human and a Majiri have children?.... And if They can... Is it too weird if i sometimes imagine my Palia character having a child with Hassian (i'm too delusional for this 😔✌️)

I would assume yes! Considering how similar Majiri are to humans in regard to anatomy, intelligence, and behavior, anyway. Should their reproductive organs be dissimilar to humans, though, maybe not. But I'm fairly confident that the genitals are the same lol.

Also, no! Is it really 'weird' or 'delusional' if it's not hurting anyone and you're having fun? 🤔 And even if it is, who cares? Insert "I am cringe but I am free" goat image here. Live weird, die happy.

- loves snuggling and sharing/maintaining warmth with you, especially near a fireplace or furnace; he gets chills all up and down his back, his face is one of pure peace, and he actually smiles and laughs

- thinks you are absolutely adorable in big winter coats; he has to look away after a while so he doesn't get cute aggression

- hadn't played in the snow since he was a boy with his momma, but you manage to bring out and heal his inner child a bit when you start snowball fights or build snowfolk with him

- is a competitive and ruthless snowball fighter; he hits his mark every time, so watch out!!

When you are upset, Jel . . .

is on high-alert. He drops absolutely everything to be with you, abandoning his work to find out what is going on. And if you don't want to tell him, fine. Despite his itching desire to know all the details, he'll respect your boundaries and just skip ahead to offering you comfort. Jel will take you to a quiet place to be alone with you. His living quarters, the lakeside, the shores. Anywhere where it'll be just you and him, noiseless aside from the sounds of nature or distant village happenings. His hands will wrap themselves around you and, depending on your height, will bring you under his arm or lean onto yours. He'll listen to your deep breathing, or your weeping if things are truly that bad at the moment. Jel will kiss your temple, forehead, and cheek, all the while rubbing your back up and down to soothe you. Your cries and sounds of distress make his heart ache with sadness, and he wishes he could absorb all of your woes. But he can't. Instead, Jel sticks by your side and whispers softly, telling you that it's okay, he's here, he loves you deeply, and he's staying right here by your side until you feel better.

Hodari:

Hodari feels like the scum of the earth when he knows he hurt your feelings during an argument. His apologies are soft to you and brutal toward himself; he'll let you know that he's a hardass and stupid when he gets too into his own head. When that's out of the way, he'll explain how he never meant to hurt you, never in a million years. If he REALLY messed up, expect to be cooked your favorite meal, with your favorite dessert, and a long array of explanations and apologies into the night.

Reth:

Reth's also one to berate himself during his apologies, just out of habit. His apologies are more like rambles, really, due to how panicked he gets when he sees you're genuinely upset. He'll splutter out how sorry he is, how idiotic he was being, how wonderful you are, and how he'll do better. Even if it's just a little argument, Reth will make you an apology food of your liking, most often desserts. Or soup. That's a given. Whatever you two argued over will most likely not be argued about again, as Reth hates confrontation and doesn't want to relive hurting you again.

Hassian:

When Hassian hurts you, he cuts right to the chase. There are no excuses. There are rarely explanations. Absolutely no self-degradation; he keeps that to himself. Hassian apologizes up front for what he's done and asks what he could do to make up for it. And even if you forgive him and tell him he doesn't have to worry about it, he'll search for a meaningful gift anyway. Something like you like, something practical, or perhaps something poetic. He's not going to let you go without a physical apology.

Einar:

Einar is characteristically blunt whenever he apologizes. He'll explain his thought process for why he acted the way he did or said the things he said, not deminishing it by any means. He'll then list out his observations that he's had if you following your argument; you seem upset, dejected, frustrated. He'll explain how he does not like seeing you with such emotions. Finally, he'll apologize and let you know he won't say/do whatever he did again.

Jel:

Jel is a mixed bag when it comes to apologizing. He might delay apologizing he feels he's REALLY in the right. But at some point, he comes to the realization that his pride means less to him than you do. You are Jel's everything, and he's not going to let you suffer silently due to something he did. So, with all his melancholy, Jel will softly apologize to you and tell you how much he adores you and loves everything about you. He'll kiss you, hold you, whisper sweet words to you. Everything to make up for his callous behavior before, and to show you how much you mean to him.

Nai'o:

Nai'o rarely ever gets angry or argumentative. When he does, he's loud and actually kind of scary—which is the LAST THING he wants to be, for you. When he sees you upset because of something he said, did, or hinted at, he will profusely apologize. He'll hug you tight, whispering how sorry he is and how he didn't mean to hurt you or scare you. Later in the day, he'll come moping to you with a fresh-baked pie and flowers, even if you did already forgive him.
