as an artist with a life that gets upended all the time by things both outside and within my control (hindsight is 20-20), i know i don't have time or energy all the time to do that. limited slots sold all at once not only increase the chance your run sells enough to get the blueprints (FOMO is a bitch, though many indie artists need it to survive), but also means far less stress for yourself. your busy life doesn't have to be disrupted because you need to sell more runs at an hour that isn't reasonable for you in your own timezone or on your own life schedule. opening 10 more slots alone is an accommodation that the artist never had to do, at risk of social opinion that you don't stick to your word.
i assure you, the artist is aware that it sucks for people who aren't around at the same convenient hour. they can absolutely try to sell spread out slots across more time periods, but that's an absolute ton of work and commitment to expect from someone who you don't know. it's reasonable to be irked by missing things, but please keep your expectations of complete strangers within a reasonable scope.
Aaaand missed another chance of getting an UMA because the limited run was filled while I was asleep. What's even the point of extending it by 10p if you know you could easily sell 100p if you didn't limit it? It's really starting to piss me off.
If you want to limit skins that badly, at least give us a full 24 hour window? If shit is filled in the first hour you ping, doesn't that tell you that maybe you shouldn't be limiting at all? That your designs aren't "too niche so would never sell otherwise"? Most of these artists aren't even charging more for the limited runs...
Idk man, call me entitled or whatever. It's always the pretty mold breaking skins that finally aren't the basic silks or flowers that are never available because I made the mistake of being asleep at 2am.

nah, you just have a more traditional, heraldic definition. it's not the common definition these days (which is the feathered sort, very frequently associated with the deity Quetzalcoatl), but it holds merit all the same. regardless, i can see why you're not exactly jiving with undertides and auraboas now.

kinda sat on the update for a bit to get my feelings on it. big post, i'm sorry. i'm open to hear about what uses people have found for effects i'm not a fan of, though! i'd like to broaden my customization tastes, and i might be thinking too narrowly when it comes to uses they have.
Dragon Only
a few are really nice, and subtle enough that they won't deeply impact a dragon's appearance. foil, shimmerscale, and glitz are surprisingly neat, with glitz being on the more heavyhanded end but still makes for a fine alternative to the other two that would fit well on a few dragon concepts off the top of my head.
i'm not a fan of the void one as far as 'subtle' ones go; it looks too 'stock image' like for my tastes and feels like looking at one of those light projectors you'd buy for halloween. i'm sure someone has a use case for it. pastel pulse isn't great for me, either; its texture map is a grid of perfectly aligned circles of varying saturations, ending with some of them being warped and some swooshes with high contrast. the intensity of the pastel makes it really hard to see the effect, too, so it feels like another stock image situation. i suppose it'd make for an alright stained alternative if you needed to use the tertiary slot for something else, but it's so heavy on the pastel that it's hard to fill that role. maybe a smoother gradient could have made it an effective (ha ha) animated iri/shim. dearly departed is a super cool concept but the result is a little off. the foggy effect on the lower end of the image is neato, but it's miserable on dragons whose faces are low (mirrors, everlux male, female imp...), or are more top heavy so it doesn't show well. i'll probably get a copy anyway, and do have an idea of which dragon could use it. Apparel Only sheen absolutely could be used on almost anything. simple, effective, does what it needs to and doesn't overstay its welcome. it's personally the best of the bunch to me as an avid shiny-things lover (probably a crow). possessed possessions looks like it's best used on dragons with minimal apparel, since the effect heavily reduces the lineart visibility of each piece and can turn it into a big blob of purple slime. i wish it could be on select pieces instead of all of them, but it's one of those limitations we need to hope for a solution to. all the same, that big blob of purple slime is neat looking on some heavily dressed dragons if you coordinate the clothing right. also you need to imagine chicken/bird/snake/frog spirits. do it for your mental health. spooky chickens. All-Over:
sunrise, moonrise feels like it was their first attempt at something fitting the role of an animated skin, and it's so hyper niche due to the landscape part of the effect. a day/night cycle effect without the landscape probably would have had more use for a wider audience. it likely appeals to some of the folks who like landscape skins, though, and i live in fear of the ones who make it work really well. i can't tell if it's supposed to be an all-over one, though-- i can't see it affecting the apparel at all in its animations? (sidebar: living painting dragons seem like a neat idea that this effect can lean into) flutterby is really cute, though, and makes me excited to see what they do with the new system. i hope they can make effects similar to it most of all; gimme other little guys, or flowerfalls, or elemental effects like lightning, little meteor showers, or smouldering ash. floating books or NOTN living objects would be really cool! TL;DR: the idea needed more time to be polished, but i think it's an overall positive addition to the website. if they balance the kinds of effects they distribute (keeping in mind people who like subtler stuff as much as the grander ideas, as well as the spectrum between) and should they choose to expand their customization and layering systems in the near future, i can absolutely see this system being much more loved my the wider community and more users finding the benefits in it that suit their needs.
#flight rising#effects schmeffects#mostly a discussion about what's a hit or miss for me while trying to get an idea of what the misses can be used for

this seems to be the shop: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/adopt/3357155/1 there's one paid slot from TorrentialGoat, who placed the order August 13th, 2024. Kahvinporo replied August 14th, 2024 about additional pricing, and no more discussion was had so it's safe to assume the order was confirmed based off of the slots of the thread.
i wouldn't call 520g "a shitton of gems" unless there's other people involved, though I suppose that could be a lot for someone else... but not for someone who assumedly sold a dragon for 4000g just 3 weeks ago judging by the dragon being in another lair, sold another dragon for 4500g a month ago, another for 3700g, and has several other instances (just a few examples) of dropping large amounts of currency on the regular across many other forum shops (dom, adopts, skins/accents, IBAZ, etc.) over the 6 month period.
Kahvinporo isn't innocent to be leaving this user hanging for an order that was paid for months ago, and should have responded to any messages Goat sent. all the same, this event seems to be blown out of proportion unless there's proof of other players being screwed over.
It’s kinda crazy how scammers don’t really get hit with anything account-wise. I’ve never heard the situation get resolved in a way that benefits the victim. How tf does the scammer get to run around the site and spend the stolen money like be fr, close their account or at least give them a permanent forum ban.
This is about K from Plague who posts in forums on the daily after stealing a shit ton of treasure/gems from ppl with her adopt shop <3 I feel insane. Just needed to blow off some steam pls and thanks
Please provide proof.

if you look up grey/grey/charcoal dragons with ice element, only two are unexalted and in an active lair: both aren't in sales tabs and have familiars, and one has a name and apparel, so it's safe to assume those two aren't for sale. the others are in abandoned lairs and hibdens. this combo including eyes is rare, and breeding projects can take an insane amount of time and luck (sometimes money and food points if a nest rental is needed, on top of praying that the renter doesn't get banned for some reason while they have your dragons) that isn't always worth it for people who have other activities outside of FR. i just spent something like 2 years to get a specific XYZ from plentiful dragons (10 pairs), without having to rent nests, so i completely understand people wanting to drop 10$ of gems during a time of year where gift money is pretty common after a cyber monday sale period, especially when gems are really easy to get without paying for them.
What’s up with that XXY auraboa in auctions. It’s pretty but 1,000 gems?? for a random g2+ with no special id?? Am I missing something

the more i look at male everlux, the less that the lighting makes sense to me, and now i'm going to be staring at all the shadows on every base.
maybe my brain is just jumbled.

if those people are 'fucked in the head', you're exactly as bad as they are just by merit of talking about it in public. You're both dumb for posting about it here in any detail.
i didn't think i'd have to state the obvious, but if you want a thing to go undetected for as long as possible, you shut up about it in public, keep your head down, and especially don't encourage people talk about it in a place staff know about and look at regularly. look it up yourself and learn how to use it, or learn how to ask privately about it. this takes one second of thought to figure out.
this is literally the basics of botting/automating/exploiting games with external tools: if you just go and hand out the tools you use to bot the coli and advertise it loud enough along with information about how to use it, you are helping staff to reverse engineer and improve their detection methods, which will then result in getting punished. no botting software is 100% foolproof, even if people think or say it is. computers are not capable of true randomization (including clicking offset timers or click target locations; there ARE patterns), because that's just the essence of mathematical operations. computers are the product of being told what to do by way of code logic, so if the code can be parsed, the whole thing falls apart and becomes determinable.
people who come on this blog and yap about having a hotkey/botting/automatic coli set up and DONT figure out a way to share it with the masses are fucked in the head

oh boy.
rhea didn't 'disable' her account; FR staff won't disable your account even if you ask unless it's in legal compliance with GDPR or you're self reporting as a multi. she was banned. the cause of the ban was (theorized to be) her having a BDSM fetish dragon, but honestly god knows if anything else of her behaviours was part of it, too.
can someone fill me in on why beta-tester R from Nature disabled her account?

absolutely! there's already a really fun dynamic between the belief/lack thereof about the pearlcatcher's pearl and its role in the greater scheme, and now we have this other entity that poses something like a 'rough draft' for those pearls should the belief be true (or even tackling the pearlcatchers potentially being 'redundant', questioning which method is truly most effective for storing knowledge, as the pearls only contain the bearer's experiences and knowledge which leads to a possible bias). everlux give us more lore fun to work with in our own stories. i look forward to if you make a post about pearlcatchers!
cool lore implication that might be coming from everlux dragons existing is their role: archivists. people wanting emperor hunters in direct response to emperors existing weren't right, but they weren't far off. the encyclopedia entry could be guiding us towards this understanding that they are a means of defense in a different way until the emperors could be understood and dealt with.
we know imperials are the first dragons lightweaver made, so everlux must come between them and pearlcatchers. it's possible that they were created specifically to save as much knowledge as possible before emperors potentially destroyed ages of recorded study.
they're protecting light's entire life work - the remaining memory of generations of lifespans dedicated to the research of the world - so when luminax started to get too close to their homes, their natural instinct wasn't just to save themselves but also the recorded knowledge of their flight's entire purpose.
i'm tired, though. iunno.

i see your tag about not knowing the line between fanon and canon, but your pearlcatcher recollection is half right! according to the pearlcatcher encyclopedia entry, it is believed that the pearls store memories, but there's nothing explicitly saying that it's true. staff is particular about the words they use when it comes to the powers/traits a dragon expresses on the encyclopedia entries, so this is just something we have to determine ourselves.

man. flight rising having a bug dragon now reminds me that two dragons in Legend of Dragoon were literally just a giant praying mantis and a beetle.
"just a bug" dragons in dragon games have existed long before flight rising kickstarted its dragony-self in here, and they were the COOLEST ideas ever, dude!

i see the idea is popular. even if it doesn't turn out to be correct, i'm glad some folks are inspired by the concept. i got it from existing underdog stories similar to david and goliath, where a small and nimble being can come out advantageous over a large and imposing threat. everlux, being as small as they are, are a difficult target to hit, and imaginably their elegant flight is equally swift. that might be something you might want to look further into when expanding on the idea.
additionally, in great numbers, tiny things are formidable! other inspirations came from small social animals that herd together for survival. one piranha might be annoying or a bit difficult to hit, but one piranha in a whole shoal acting in concert is a really hard target. not saying that everlux will act like a piranha would, but it's incredibly difficult to take out an entire group of small things when they're scattered about and moving quickly with a unified goal unless you have immense focus; they're a perfect answer to a large creature with so many living and moving parts at odds with one another and acting chaotically.
they don't have to be strong to win when their goal is to protect their archives, they just have to be fast and agile enough to get away from danger with them.

HA i respect the restraint to like it, and i'm glad i could delight someone else in this very trying time.
I think a lot of people are projecting their own insecurities onto the people criticizing the breed.
You wouldn't describe a grub as elegant. The dragon is designed like a grub. This does not equate to human bodies being incapable of inelegance due to being overweight. You are a human being, not a grub. Someone disliking a grub does not mean you are disliked.
The point being made is that the Light flight aesthetic is all glowing grass, light motes, ancient greek pillars, halos etc. This is what draws people to the flight and what they enjoy was not present on the breed. The breed itself is still good, it just didn't align with what some light flight members wanted.

effectively this, yeah. do you know how many phalanges skydancers have on their wing fingers? i've counted around 6 with how the knuckles present in their designs! imagine having double the bones in your fingers, the bones are toothpick thin at points where even the art is just a line where a finger should be, and how often they must break or bend painfully; that shit's weird, but when was the last time you saw someone be skeeved out by ol' saladfingers the dragon?
So a ton of the userbase is being really gross about Everluxes, but it feels really weird seeing people saying they don't like the breed bc it feels disproportionate (bigger tummy + very spindly legs + short and thin wings) getting called fatphobic? Like the people saying they can't be elegant bc they're fat are absolutely fatphobic, but I don't see how the disproportionate people are?? It also seems fairly reasonable and Still Not That Bad to say it seems weird that a fat dragon can move gracefully in the air with canonically small, thin, fragile wings?? Maybe if they were more rigid (like an insect's) but Everlux's wings don't really come off that way to me. If I'm part of the problem I really don't want to be and would love to have it explained vksbakdnf
Also the people responding to the whole "insect-adjacent anatomy doesn't feel right on vertebrates" thing by going "who said dragons are vertebrates" are. Definitely something
